Abstract: A saw mill has a head having at least one saw. The head is configured to travel on a track longitudinally to make alternating cuts between laterally spaced apart first and second work pieces. After traveling forward longitudinally to make a first cut of the first work piece at least one of the heads in the saw move laterally to then cut the second work piece on the return longitudinal trip.
Abstract: A method is provided for making absorbent pads that may have a longitudinally asymmetric shape. The pads may be used in various consumer absorbent articles. The method includes delivering a supply of an absorbent web material in a machine-direction and cutting the absorbent web material in a cross-direction to form a repeating nested pattern of generally identically shaped and oppositely oriented absorbent pads, the pads being disposed longitudinally in the cross-direction of the absorbent web. The pads are longitudinally asymmetric and nested such that the crotch portion of one pad is oriented towards the back portions of immediately adjacent pads, and adjacent nested pads share defining cut lines such that there is no wastage of absorbent web material between the nested pads.

Abstract: The invention is a portable band sawmill which is able to make bi-directional horizontal cuts, as well as vertical cuts. A special carriage with a U-shaped inner member pivotally connecting two band saw wheel support members makes this possible. The wheel support members of the saw blade carriage are pivotally connected at one end to traveler assemblies which are, in turn, movably connected to vertical members of a generally rectangular, vertical sub-frame. The sub-frame spans the width of, and is, in turn, movably connected at two or more points, at least one on each side, to a generally rectangular horizontal main-frame. The horizontal main-frame supports a log to be cut. The vertical sub-frame is moved back and forth on the main-frame to provide horizontal cuts. The saw blade carriage is moved up and down on the vertical sub-frame by the traveler assemblies to provide horizontal cuts at different heights, and/or vertical cuts. The saw blade carriage, which supports the band saw, can rotate 0.degree.-180.
Abstract: Apparatus for processing an elongate web of sheets is provided, which includes structure for continuously feeding successive sheets of the web in a path of travel, structure for successively cutting the successive sheets from the web, and structure for successively deflecting the successive sheets out of the path of travel and into cutting relationship with the cutting structure.
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a horizontally arranged bandsaw and one or more rotary meat holders arranged to feed primal cuts of meat downwards and onto the bandsaw to be cut into portions. A depth stop, which may be adjustable, determines the thickness of the cut portion. In a preferred form, the bandsaw is substantially totally enclosed and two meat holders are provided, one of which may be loaded while meat in the other is being portioned.
Abstract: Apparatus for splitting one or two carcasses while the latter are held in a vertical, stationary position. The cutting means comprises a band saw arranged so as to provide two cutting edges in order that the two carcasses may be split at the same time. The band saw is supported on a frame, and means are provided for moving the band saw vertically on the frame through the carcasses.
