With Means To Vary Space Between Opposed Members Patents (Class 83/827)
  • Patent number: 8191453
Abstract: A specimen slicing guide for use in slicing a biopsy specimen taken from a human patient or an animal patient includes a base extending in a longitudinal direction. A plurality of needles extends substantially perpendicularly to the base and the needles are spaced along the longitudinal direction of the base. Two specimen slicing guides are coupled via at least one link, which is adapted to allow an adjustable spacing of the two specimen slicing guides in a parallel relationship. A method of cutting a biopsy specimen includes fixing the biopsy specimen relative to a support surface using the needles of two, parallel-arranged specimen slicing guides, inserting a cutting tool between corresponding needle gap pairs and then downwardly moving the cutting tool under guidance of adjacent needles.

  • Patent number: 7127978
Abstract: A circular saw machine having a saw blade (1) that is movably held for back and forth motion during the sawing process. A forward and a rearward saw blade guide (4, 5) ensure the stability of the saw blade (1) while sawing. The saw blade guides (4, 5) respectively have contact surfaces (6), which abut on the respective side surfaces of the saw blade (1). In order to operate the circular saw machine with different saw blade diameters, the forward saw blade guide (5) is removable from, or pivotable away from, the saw blade (1), and the saw blade itself is interchangeable. The radial positioning of the contact surfaces (6) of the saw blade guides (4, 5) is variable. This can be accomplished by interchanging the whole saw blade guide (5), but also in particular by a mounting (12), pivotable with respect to the saw blade guide (4, 5) and to which the contact surface (6) is fixed.

  • Patent number: 6971297
Abstract: A guard assembly for a saw or other cutting device includes fixed and movable guards relatively pivotal by way of a linkage assembly having two links pivotally interconnected coaxially with a cam roller engageable with a cam surface for controlling relative guard movement. Other preferred features include a torsional coil guard return spring and spring enclosure that minimizes interference with workpiece cutting depth, an arbor shaft cover retention fastener that doubles, along with another caliper member, as a blade caliper set that prevents guard damage in the event of a bent or deflected blade or cutter, a drive assembly hold-down assembly for storage, and a horizontally-extending handle centered horizontally relative to the blade or cutter.

  • Patent number: 6837135
Abstract: An apparatus for slitting a running paperboard web includes a thin high speed rotary slitting blade that is plunged through the moving web and into a slot between a pair of anvil rollers supporting the web on the opposite side. Because the slitting blade and the anvil rollers are vertically separated and pre-positioned before order change, an adjustment apparatus is provided to spread the anvil rollers axially apart to provide an open gap with a large target for blade edge when it is plunged through the web and into the slot. The anvil rollers are then closed against the opposite faces of the blade for running operation. Preferably, the anvil rollers are mounted on brackets hinged together below the rollers to move the opposite upper edges of the rollers between the opened and closed position in the manner of a clam shell. The anvil roller assembly is also adjustable in the machine direction to compensate for reduction in rotary slitting blade diameter with blade wear.

  • Patent number: 6272964
Abstract: A throat plate blade guide for insertion into the work table of a band saw. The blade guide first includes a plate having a blade slot to permit a band saw blade to travel therethrough. The plate additionally has opposed blade guide structures juxtaposed with the blade slot on opposite sides of the band saw blade to limit lateral motion of the band saw blade. In the preferred embodiment, the blade guide also includes blade guide adjustors for adjusting the distance between the respective blade guide structures and the band saw blade.

  • Patent number: 5927174
Abstract: A sawguide positioning method for circular gang saws mounted on a single saw arbor shaft. A guide bar is positioned generally parallel to the saw arbor shaft. A plurality of sawguide pairs are slidably mounted on the guide bar for longitudinal axial travel thereon. The guides extend on either side of each of the circular saws. A pair of opposed sawguide positioning wedges are threadably mounted on a selectively rotatable shaft having a right hand threaded end and a left hand threaded end, the axis of the shaft being generally at right angles to both the saw arbor shaft and the guide bar. The wedges are threaded on to the selectively rotatable shaft with their vertices innermost. The threaded shaft has an enlarged diameter portion or disk intermediate the threaded ends which is rotatably positioned within matching recesses in the opposed faces of the sawguides.

  • Patent number: 5497684
Abstract: A guiding system for large circular saws wherein the guiding pads are positioned according to a typical angular wavelength of a circumferential vibration wave of the saw blade when rotating at an operating speed. In one embodiment, the frequency of a natural circumferential vibration wave is measured before positioning the guiding pads. Two sets of guiding pads are spaced apart a distance equal to about half the angular wavelength of such natural vibration wave. This distance corresponds to an angular distance between two successive opposite peaks or crests of a sinusoidal wave in the saw blade. The consequence of two successive opposite peaks entering the guiding pads at the same time has the effect of dampening the vibration very quickly, by acting upon both sides of the blade simultaneously to reduce the amp amplitude of the wave, while maintaining balanced axial impact on the saw.

  • Patent number: 5107738
Abstract: To cut a workpiece along two different cutting directions, the band saw teeth are set in a first vertical cutting direction by a band saw guide device and then the cutting head (CH) is moved frontward, for instance; thereafter, the band saw teeth are twisted toward a second vertical cutting direction by the same guide device and then the cutting head is moved to-and-fro, for instance. The machine is effectively usable in cutting off a test piece from a large workpiece. To improve the cutting precision, various novel devices are incorporated, such as a balance cylinder (B-CYL) for allowing the cutting head to move up and down smoothly; two back-and-forth cylinders (BF-CYL) for moving the cutting head back and forth in symmetrical pressure application; cutting head fix device (FD); a rigid guide column; band saw holding device (BSH); a slidable small-diameter driven wheel arranged within the cutting head (CH), etc.

  • Patent number: 4972746
Abstract: A bandsaw machine which has a sawhead assembly in which a flexible endless bandsaw blade is trained around a pair of bandsaw blade wheels to cut a workpiece, with the blade being guided by a guide arm, includes a guide member on the guide arm, for holding the bandsaw blade in a vertical orientation by pushing the bandsaw blade from both sides. A rolling member is mounted on the sawhead assembly and is free to push a side surface of the bandsaw blade with a predetermined force so as to prevent vibration of the blade.
