  • Publication number: 20140251110
Abstract: A machine includes a frame, a conveyor with a plurality of open-top bottom-apertured recesses for receiving, conveying and dropping skin-containing berries. Upper and lower needle assemblies are supported on the frame above and below the conveyor. Each needle assembly includes a plurality of needles with five-star-knife-edged sharp tips and an actuator mechanism for oscillatingly moving the needles as the recesses pass the needles, the needles being movable between an extended position where the sharp tips penetrate opposing sides of the skin of the berries but with a stroke causing the tips to only penetrate partially into an interior of the berries causing star-shaped slit patterns. The actuator mechanism also moves the needles to a retracted position where the sharp tips are fully retracted. A related method is provided for piercing multiple sides of the skin of berries without unacceptably damaging the appearance or shape or internal mass of the berries.

Abstract: The invention describes a method and a device for generating a prespecified gloss pattern on a toner image in order to develop a detection property of said toner image. In the method, toner that is first heated to above its glass transition temperature is brought into contact with a glosser belt, said glosser belt having—corresponding to the gloss pattern to be generated—at least one first area displaying a first surface roughness and at least a second area displaying a second surface roughness and/or displaying a different elevation whereas a plurality of second areas is provided within the first area displaying a specific pattern, which repetition on other glosser belts is not allowed so that an identification of specific glosser belts and thus an identification of a glosser device is easier. Subsequently, while the toner is in contact with the glosser belt, said toner is cooled to below its glass transition temperature.

  • Patent number: 6401586
Abstract: A tax stamp perforator and notcher applies a diagonal line of spaced apart perforations on a tax stamp for subsequent application to a cigarette pack. The stamp is glued or otherwise applied to the cigarette pack normally across the back of the pack and one of the sides thereof. When the cigarette pack is opened the tax stamp is torn along the line of perforations. In order to facilitate rapid application of tax stamps to a production line of cigarette packs, notches in the form of lines of increased densification are applied to each stamp in the area where the stamp is bent around the side of the cigarette pack. These lines of increased densification are arranged parallel to the edge of the cigarette pack, and preferably one of the lines lies along the edge of the cigarette pack to thereby reduce the ability of the tax stamp to spring back away from the pack when glued to the pack. This feature enables the stamps to be applied to the packs at high production rates.

  • Patent number: 5047200
Abstract: A method of making a fire hose including the steps of extruding a tube having inner 12 and outer coverings of elastomeric material on a woven jacket made from woven synthetic textile yarns and having a weft which is unusually highly crimped. The extruded tube is placed in a confining mould or sheath having an internal diameter substantially the same as the external diameter of the hose, curing the material of the tube by internal application of heat and pressure, pressing the outer covering into tight engagement with the sheath. The sheath effectively prevents radial expansion of the hose during the curing and the outer covering is thus embossed with the surface topography of the inner surface of the sheath upon removal of the sheath. The hose thus formed has good diametral swell properties and consequently reduces the frictional forces in relation to the amount of water flowing through the hose.

  • Patent number: 4815351
Abstract: The present invention provides novel apparatus for punching or drilling of a plurality of elongate, slanting bores or holes in a substantially solid slab made of a relatively rigid, penetrable material such as plastic. The apparatus comprises a punching or drilling chamber having a substantially planar top wall. A series of spikes angle downwardly and at an angle from the top wall. A feed end allows slabs of material to be fed into the punching chamber onto a planar support bed, where the slab is secured from further movement relative to the support bed. The support bed is movable in reciprocating motion upward and downward in the punching chamber in a direction parallel with the longitudinal axes of the spikes which extend downwardly from the top wall of the chamber. During the upward motion, the slab of material is forced into the spikes which pierce the slab and forms the elongated bores or holes therein. In the downward cycle, the spikes are withdrawn from the slab of material.
