Abstract: Devices and methods are provided for cutting or forming tapered surfaces on the end portions of tube or pipe lengths prior to forming joints in adjoining lengths. A device body includes multiple guide surfaces, each having distinct size and shape to engage with an open end of a one of a multiple of tube of predetermined diameters. In intended use, a powered cutting device is rotated about the end of stationary tube or pipe.
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and a method for converting a sheet into a continuous strip, wherein the sheet has a sequence of cuts extending in a cutting direction transversely across the sheet with respect to the longitudinal direction to form a plurality of interconnected sheet sections, wherein the continuous strip has zig-zag sections, wherein the sheet sections are arranged to be pulled apart in a feeding direction to form the zig-zag sections, wherein the apparatus includes a separator device with a retaining device for retaining an upstream sheet section with respect to a consecutive downstream sheet section in the feeding direction and a sensor device for detecting the pulling apart of the downstream sheet section from the upstream sheet section.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a steel part including hot stamping followed by trimming, piercing, or flanging, without delayed fracture and without the need for annealing, is provided. The method includes heating a blank formed of a steel material, forming the blank between a pair of dies, and quenching the blank. The temperature drop in select areas of the blank is reduced, which limits the amount of martensite formed in the select areas, but allows martensite to form in other areas. The dies can be formed with modified materials or modified cooling channels to limit the amount of martensite formed in the select areas of the blank. The select areas are softer than the other areas and can be subsequently trimmed, pierced, or flanged without the delayed fractures.
Abstract: A multi-layer label system. A carrier material with an upper label and a lower label removably adhered thereto is provided. The upper label and lower label are dispensed from the carrier and applied to a surface, whereby after application the underside of the lower label is in contact with the surface and the undersurface of the upper label is in contact with the top side of the lower label.

Abstract: An accessory unit for use with an electronic device is described. Accessory unit includes a front flap and a rear cover. The rear cover includes a recessed portion that defines a chamber and a lip portion. The chamber is configured to receive a consumer electronic device, and the lip portion is configured to hold the consumer electronic device therein by an interference fit that exposes substantially all of a display portion of the consumer electronic product. The front flap can include segments formed from panels with folding regions therebetween, which allow the front flap to fold. Abstract: To assist in the reuse and repurposing of packaging and others materials, the present disclosure provides an integrated label remover that allows for quick and easy removal of media (e.g., labels, UPC codes) from a box or other packaging material (e.g., a protective envelope). The label remover utilizes a micro blade to score or cut around the label and a larger lifting blade that allows a user to easily detach the edge of the media for removal. The micro blade can cut to a micro layer thickness while preserving the integrity of the box. This micro layer cut provides access to the area between the media and the material, so that the lifting blade can be inserted to disrupt any adhesive or other means of affixation.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for stripping tight-buffered optical fibers are disclosed. The methods include removing a portion of the buffer layer and thin-coating layer to expose the bare fiber at the optical fiber end, wherein the cuts to the optical fiber needed to strip the optical fiber are made simultaneously. In some methods, a portion of the cover is used to clean the bare fiber as the cover portion is removed. In other methods, the normal force that secures the cover is alleviated so that the cover portion can be removed without breaking the bare fiber. Different apparatus configured to effectuate the stripping methods are disclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for distressing material, such as a board. The apparatus may include a cutter head supporting a blade, a guide member, and a flattening device. The flattening device and the guide member are positioned proximate the cutter head and on opposite sides thereof. In response to the cutter head and the surface of the material being brought into cutting contact and moved relative to each other, a resulting portion of the surface of the material is distressed. The flattening device maintains the proper vertical position of the cutter head and blade relative to the material and a material support as the material is being brought into cutting contact with the cutter head. The guide member levels warped material boards thereby bringing the board into proper elevation and engagement with the blade for cutting or scraping a top surface of the board. The material may be wood.

Abstract: A method and optical fiber stripper for removing one or more coatings from an optical fiber is disclosed. The method includes inserting an optical fiber into an optical fiber stripper comprising a pair of fiber stress distributing elements, wherein a normal stress is applied to the fiber by the fiber stress distributing elements along the length of fiber intended to be stripped. Abstract: Described are embodiments of an invention for a method and a tool to produce a textured surface on the retention tab of a storage cell. The tool has a form that fits within the storage cell. The form has a hard material with a hard surface with contacts a surface of the retention tab within the storage cell. The movement of the hard surface across the surface of the retention tab produces a textured surface on the retention tab. The textured interface between a notch of a data storage cartridge and a retention tab of a storage cell provides a consistent and low friction force that retains the data storage cartridge within the cell but allows the accessor to easily remove the data storage cartridge when needed.

Abstract: A contrast target tool for locating and marking a desired location on a surface of an object. The contrast tool can have a target flange with a plurality of contrast targets thereon and a marker that is rigidly attached to and extending from the target flange. The marker can have a marker end that is operable to produce a mark on the three-dimensional object and the target flange with the marker can be operable to be viewed by a digital imaging system. In this manner, a present location of the marker end can be determined and tracked in real time to allow the operator to locate and place the marker end at the desired or precise location on the object surface and produce a mark thereon.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a manufacturing device and manufacturing method of a liquid crystal panel. Abstract: A method is provided for forming a barbed medical device which includes the steps of providing a blank workpiece and forming at least one barb on the blank workpiece by applying vibrational energy to a tool and bringing the tool and the blank workpiece into contact with each other at an angle such that the tool cuts into the surface of the blank workpiece. A barbed medical device formed by this method is also provided.

Abstract: A radial pin 2 has a second end portion 2B protruded from an outer surface of a turbine casing 1 and a first end portion 2A inserted into a through hole 3 formed in the turbine casing 1, and a weld bead 4 is formed on a periphery of the second end portion 2B. A weld bead cutting device 10 has a cutting portion 12 which cuts the weld bead 4 formed on the periphery of the radial pin 2, and a support portion 20 which supports the cutting portion 12 on an end surface 2C of the second end portion 2B of the radial pin 2 such that the cutting portion 12 is movable along the periphery of the radial pin 2.
Abstract: A gasket for a bottle closure that regulates the diffusion of oxygen into the bottle is provided. In one example, the gasket includes a flexible substrate permeable to oxygen and a barrier film that is less permeable to oxygen than the substrate layer, where the combined structure has a light transmittance of between 0.5% and 10%. In some examples, the substrate includes a polymer layer and the film comprises a metal or non-metal film, where the film may be vapor deposited or sputtered onto the substrate. The metalized film layer may be deposited on the substrate to allow oxygen to diffuse there through at a rate of 1.5 cc/m2/day to 20 cc/m2/day, or 5 mg of oxygen to diffuse through over a period of 6 months to 8 years. The exemplary gasket or liner may further include a film that is perforated to create areas of differing oxygen transmission through the substrate and film structure.
Abstract: A cutting line partially through a multilayer plate structure (1) comprising at least one rigid layer (6, 7) attached to a non-rigid layer (5) is formed by punching in one operation a cutting edge (15) through at least the rigid layer the leaving at least one layer (7) of the multilayer plate structure (1) uncut. Abstract: A transporting apparatus for transporting flat, sheet-like material through one or more processing stations of a sheet-processing machine includes at least one upper conveying apparatus and at least one lower conveying apparatus with conveying devices which are in contact with one another. The upper and lower conveying apparatuses are fastened in such a way that they can be altered freely in length. A sheet-processing machine with a transporting apparatus is also provided.
