Abstract: A texturizing tool that creates concentric, circular patterns of burrs in the surface of a workpiece by graving, planning or plowing, curved stop-grooves each with a burr of the displaced material which remains securely attached to the workpiece. Toothed cylindrical saws having angled slots for a drive pin are concentrically assembled. When forced against the workpiece, each saw rotates some few degrees causing the teeth to cut the stop-grooves and making the burrs. The drive pin and a return spring are carried in a capped outer cylindrical actuator which the drive pin also passes through. The concentric saw's cutting teeth cut in opposite directions to cancel out the cutting forces on the workpiece. Articles so texturized may be used in structural adhesive bonding, and for embedment of texturized articles such as fasteners, washers, plates and the like, into molded plastic and composite structures while being molded.

Mobile phones have an electronic display protected by a glass shield. Between the glass and the display is often a plastic polarizing or other intermediary sheet. Removal of a damage glass can be accomplished by cutting thru the polarizer with a moving wire or blade. This separates the glass from the sensitive display and allows replacement of the glass without damaging the more expensive display.

The outer conductor may be prepared for coupling by: 1. Placing a tear collar over the outer conductor and 2. Tearing the outer conductor against the tear collar. Abstract: A cutting frame for holding an object to be sliced into two pieces. The object, such as a bagel, has a bottom surface, a peripheral edge, and a top surface. The cutting frame has a base which holds a support stem, which in turn holds a ring shaped guide member. The guide member has a knife blade guide slot extending through it to guide a knife downwardly through the guide member and through a bagel or other object held in the guide member. The process of using the cutting frame includes holding a bagel against a closed side of the compartment formed within the guide member so that the user's fingers press the bagel against the closed surface of the compartment. A knife is then placed in the knife blade guide slot and drawn back and forth downwardly through the bagel to form an accurate slice parallel to the bottom of the bagel. The guide blade knife slot extends completely through the guide member so that the bagel is always cut into two separate pieces.

Abstract: A unidirectional and bidirectional optical fiber couplers using polymer optical fibers having mirrors formed within the polymer optical fibers for reflecting optical signals. The mirrors comprise a notch having at least one surface angled with respect to the central axis of the optical fiber for reflecting the optical signal perpendicular to its central axis. A unidirectional embodiment allows input optical signals to be coupled from any combination of input optical fibers and transmitted into any combination of output optical fibers. A bidirectional embodiment allows optical signals from tapping fibers to be reflected in opposite directions along a first, or BUS optical fiber. Another aspect of the present invention is an apparatus and method for controlling the depth of the notch by monitoring residue power through the optical fibers while the notch is being cut.

Abstract: An improved appliance for slicing food articles, particularly baked goods and bagels in a uniform, quick and safe manner. The appliance includes a food receptacle which is slidably inserted into one end of a main housing and into which a food item such as a bagel is placed. A motorized cutting carriage is pivotally mounted to the main housing and extends a serrated dual-bladed slicing assembly over the food item. When power is applied, the blades of the slicing assembly begin reciprocating, and the entire cutting carriage is pivoted with respect to the main housing in order to move the reciprocating blades of the slicing assembly through the food item. Once the food item is cut, the cutting carriage is returned to its home position, the food receptacle is slidably withdrawn, and the sliced food item is removed and consumed. The appliance requires a minimum of space and facilitates the slicing operation without damage to the bagel.

  • Patent number: 6202529
Abstract: This invention is a safe, effective, attractive apparatus for slicing bread products such as bagels, bulkie rolls, and English muffins into two approximately equal sections. The invention is comprised of two primary components. The base unit (1) is essentially a rectangular block with a narrow slot (5) on either side of a cavity (3) that is open at the top and shaped to receive and center a bread product (12). The second component is a unique separate top block (2) that has an inverted slot (6) on the underside to receive a knife so that it is recessed from the underside of the top block. A knife is placed into the slot of the top block, and together they are placed into the chamber of the base unit, with the knife now guided by the slots on either side of the base unit. The top block is used to hold down the bread product to keep it from rotating, while keeping fingers safely away from the knife blade. The user draws the knife back and forth, and is able to cut easily through the bread product.

Abstract: An apparatus for variable length belt splitting includes a stepwise feeder which urges the belt, such as conveyor belt, forward in discrete steps and a reciprocating cutter disposed downstream from the feeder. The feeder preferably includes both a holding clamp and a feed clamp that is connected to, and is moved with respect to, the holding clamp by a feed actuator. The cutter preferably moves parallel to the holding clamp and is moved back and forth by a bi-directional ram. The cutter splits the belt edge to edge at a predetermined depth in length increments corresponding to the feeder's step length to a total length determined by the user. Optionally, the feeder and cutter are connected to a support structure which allows the feeder and cutter to be placed at an angle with respect to the path of the belt through the machine, thereby allowing for diagonal splits to be made with respect to the longitudinal axis of the belt without stewing of the belt.

  • Patent number: 5852877
Abstract: A belt skiving apparatus and method in which a free-standing blade-carrying carriage is employed which does not require a guiding base. The carriage has a pair of rollers defining a nip into which a belt end to be skived is passed. The rollers press together about the belt end to securely grip the belt. One of the rollers is toothed to provide a non-slip engagement with the surface of the belt and at least one of the rollers is driven, preferably manually, through a crank arm. Rotation of the rollers advances the carriage relative to the belt to advance the carriage across the width of the belt. As the carriage is advanced, the belt is passed through the rollers and through a cutting blade disposed adjacent the rollers. As the carriage is advanced along the width of the belt, the blade slices a thin strip of the upper portion of the belt adjacent its upper face from the remainder of the belt. The thin strip that is removed is the portion of the belt that was punctured by the teeth of the driving roller.
