  • Patent number: 6173636
Abstract: A paper machine for one of making and processing a fiber material web. A plurality of rolls carry the fiber material web. The plurality of rolls include a load roll and another roll defining a nip therebetween. The fiber material web travels through the nip and defines a gore with the load roll on an approach side of the nip. A movable cutoff knife includes a cutting edge positioned in the gore at a slight distance from the nip and adjacent to the fiber material web. At least one impulse exchanger is positioned in association with the cutoff knife. The impulse exchanger is configured to transfer impulse energy to the cutoff knife whereby the cutting edge cuts the fiber material web.

  • Patent number: 5904283
Abstract: A note paper sheet dispenser adapted to supply a user with a note paper sheet whose dimensions are determined by the user. The dispenser includes a rectangular base above whose rear end is mounted for rotation a strip paper roll in which the underside of the paper strip is coated with a longitudinal band of low-tack pressure-sensitive adhesive. Mounted above the base is an endless conveyer belt which runs between a motor-driven roller adjacent the paper roll and an idler roller adjacent the front end of the base. When the motor is energized, the belt then draws paper strip from the roll along the belt to a length depending on the time period during which the motor is energized. A tear-off blade above the belt and adjacent the roll permits the length of paper strip lying in the belt to be torn off to provide a note paper sheet of the desired length that can be written on and then temporarily adhered to a document or other object.

  • Patent number: 5655425
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for stopping a roll set, quickly in a controlled fashion. Typically, such a roll set is comprised of a plurality of rolls which is launched from a slitter wherefrom it is rolled along a downward ramp to a conveyor. On the downward ramp, on the side of the conveyor opposite the ramp is a number of adjacent stop gages suited for being controlled to a home position and an operating position, respectively. For each roll, a required number of the stop gages located along the rolling path of the roll is selected to operate, while the rest of the stop gages are left in their home positions. In this fashion, each roll can be stopped individually even when the rolls move simultaneously and, moreover, the stopping force can be adjusted separately for each roll.

  • Patent number: 5259681
Abstract: An end separating device for a sheet having a backing paper, which can easily separate a film of the sheet from the backing paper without requiring half cutting of the sheet. A fixing and separating member is fixed to a movable blade of a cutter for cutting a tape, and another fixing and separating member is fixed to a fixed blade of the cutter. These fixing and separating members and cooperate to bend and fix a cut end portion of the tape. Accordingly, the cut end portion of the tape is bent. After the tape is released from the fixing and separating members, a film tape is elastically returned to an original condition owing to its relatively large stiffness, but a backing paper is plastically deformed at the bent portion. As a result, the film tape can be separated from the backing paper. In other embodiments of an end separating device, a separating member is passed along end surfaces of free end portions of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 5235882
Abstract: A device which trims off the perforated margin strips of printer paper and cuts the paper transversely to separate it into individual pages. The paper which discharges from the printer is drawn around a tension bar and is applied to a toothed belt driven by feed wheels. Cutter wheels act against a grooved roller to cut along the tear lines of the margin strips. A photocell based counting system counts the perforations which pass the photocell to indicate each time the paper is advanced to position one of the transverse fold lines at a cutting station. Then, the paper is stopped and a cutter wire is pulled through the fold line to separate the leading page from the rest of the paper sheet. Each time a new sheet of paper is loaded, a special control circuit assures that the initial advance of the sheet stops with the leading edge of the paper at the cutting station.

  • Patent number: 5211091
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting pleated paper, and especially for filtration media for the automotive industry. Two tooth roller chains in parallel are supported above a support plate upon which pleated paper is placed. There is an opening in the plate through which the teeth of two sprockets supported beneath the plate may extend to mesh with the teeth of the corresponding roller chain. The teeth on both the chain and the sprocket are the same height as the pleated paper and when driven by an electric motor pulls the paper through the device separating each pleat. One pleat at a time is pushed through a slit in the table top at which point the pleat knuckle is sheared off by pneumatic operated cutter blade. A fiberoptics infrared scanner is used to monitor the amount of pleated material available. The number of pleats cut on any one run is controlled.
