Patent number: 6198031Abstract: A cord or cable lock for preventing a cord or cable from being accidentally pulled out of a socket of a musical instrument, due to tugs on the cable or cord, is disclosed. The cable lock is in the form of a strip which is curled or curved at one end to give a J-shaped profile to the cable lock. Near the end distal from the curved portion, the cable lock has a hole which allows the cable lock to be mounted to a musical instrument using a screw. The curved portion of the cable lock surrounds the cable and frictionally grips the cable to keep tugs on the cable from being transmitted to a plug at the end of the cable. Thus the plug is prevented from being pulled out of the socket in the musical instrument.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2000Date of Patent: March 6, 2001Inventor: William L. Jones

Patent number: 6169238Abstract: A combination strap lock and pick storage device includes a pair of arms each having a free end and an opposite end forming a single ring defining a passage therethrough. The arms are biased away from each other such that the passage has a predefined cross-sectional area. The arms may be forced toward each other to thereby expand the cross-sectional area of the passage sufficiently to thereby allow passage therethrough of an enlarged head of a peg attached to a musical instrument. Thereafter, the arms may be released so that the passage resumes its predefined cross-sectional area and engages a shaft portion of the peg, wherein the shaft has a cross-sectional area that is less than that of the enlarged head. The device thus secures a support strap, previously attached to the peg, to the musical instrument. Each arm additionally defines a channel along an inside surface thereof, wherein the opposing channels are configured to receive a flat pick therein.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1999Date of Patent: January 2, 2001Assignee: BoloPickInventor: Robert T. Bolo, III

Patent number: 6143970Abstract: A mute holder for attachment to a music stand supports several mutes in a convenient manner. A mute is a device placed in the end of a trumpet or similar musical instrument to alter the sound. A number of mutes may be needed in the course of play. The mute holder provides an attachment bracket sized to attach to the support shelf on the music book support portion of a music stand. A preferred attachment bracket includes a retaining strip which is carried adjacent to a top portion of the mute holder. A resilient first bend between the top and retaining strip biases the strip against the top, allowing the bracket to clamp against the support shelf of the music book support. A back wall is attached to a rear edge of the top portion at an angle of approximately 90 degrees. A support plate is attached to the lower edge of the back wall, and is generally parallel to the top portion. The support plate defines one or more holes or openings, each such opening sized to support a similarly sized mute.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1999Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Inventor: John P. Patent number: 6011206Abstract: The ribbon harp is a mouth-blown musical instrument consisting of a thin ribbon-like textile or polymeric object. When held between the thumbs and blown on by mouth, the ribbon harp vibrates in the audible frequency range and produces a musical note. The player may vary the tension in the ribbon in order to vary the fundamental frequency with which the ribbon harp vibrates, thus producing higher or lower pitches. Various methods may be used to provide lengthwise strength. Dampening properties can be tuned by varying properties in the crosswise direction. Aerodynamic surface treatments are provided so that the ribbon harp commences to vibrate immediately on being blown across. A wrist harness or gauntlet and a thumb cot are described as aids to the player.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1998Date of Patent: January 4, 2000Inventor: Joseph Paige Straley

Patent number: 5649634Abstract: There is provided a guitar pick holder adapted to be mounted to the outer surface of a guitar, which holder provides quick and easy access to the guitar pick even by a musician holding the guitar. The guitar pick holder comprises a suction cup and an elongated coil of resilient wire. The suction cup has a lower portion for attachment to the flat surface by a vacuum force, and an upper portion that is supported above the flat surface by the lower portion. The elongated coil of resilient wire is secured to the upper portion of the suction cup and has an arcuate shape such that its outer periphery is greater than its inner periphery. In addition, the elongated coil has a plurality of individual turns that form a plurality of slots for receiving the guitar pick. Thus, the present invention permits insertion and retrieval of guitar picks to and from the guitar pick holder without requiring the musician to view the guitar pick holder.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: July 22, 1997Inventor: Joseph Irizarry
