  • Patent number: 11074896
Abstract: An extended play drumstick with enhanced durability of the rimshot area. The extended play drumstick includes a durable surrounding pad attached along and around the rimshot portion of the drumstick, and features an optional durable coating applied to the surface of the drumstick shaft, applied from at least the distal end of the durable surrounding pad up to and including at least the shoulder portion. The extended play drumstick resists rimshot damage caused by the drumstick striking the rim of a drum. The rimshot area of the drumstick is protected with a durable surrounding pad made of high strength material such as a para-aramid synthetic fiber, e.g., Kevlar® fiber from Dupont®. The extended play drumstick prevents chipping, fraying, and splintering of the shaft of the drumstick. Due to the light weight of the durable surrounding pad, and the durable coating, the balance and feel of a traditional drumstick are preserved.

  • Patent number: 10943571
Abstract: Percussion assemblies, such as mini hi-hat percussion assemblies, are disclosed. The mini hi-hat assemblies can include a first connecting portion between a pedal and a drive shaft. A roller can be included between the first connecting portion and an underside of the pedal. Non-flexible members and/or flexible members such as a chain can be included between the drive shaft and a cymbal rod. Actuation of the pedal can cause rotation of the drive shaft and downward movement of the cymbal rod, which can have a top cymbal mounted thereon. This downward movement can cause the top cymbal to contact a bottom cymbal and produce a desired sound. A compression spring can then cause the system to rebound toward its equilibrium or resting position.

  • Patent number: 9626943
Abstract: One or more drumsticks may be optimally balanced using a grip point of the drumstick by calculating a radius of gyration. The radius of gyration is a controlling parameter wherein the radius of gyration correlates with the grip point, which is itself based on a particular gripping style and hand size. Given the radius of gyration, the center of gravity of the one or more drumsticks may be re-located at a point along the drumstick closely aligned to the radius of gyration. The re-location may be performed by adding a weight to the butt end of the drumstick. Balanced drumstick pairs provide optimum performance, control and handling characteristics for a drummer.

Abstract: A stick type drum stick is disclosed which includes a plurality of elongated reasonably straight wooden rods formed around a central dowel. The central dowel is comprised of a larger diameter sized wooden rod, the central dowel has two perpendicular slots cut into the horizontal plain starting at the end nearest to the playing or striking end. The plurality of rods having the same length as the central dowel are placed around the central dowel's outside diameter. A retaining sleeve is securely fitted over the gripping end creating a handle area. At the opposite end an additional retaining sleeve shorter in length is secured slightly back from the playing or striking end allowing some flexibility for the outer rods. Abstract: A percussion instrument is disclosed that may include a body having a longitudinal axis extending from a butt end to a striking end thereof and at least one hole extending through the thickness of the body substantially along or through an axis that is different from the longitudinal axis; and a grasping mechanism having a first grip plate at a first end thereof and a second grip plate at a second end thereof, and at least one shaft extending through the hole. The percussion instrument may further include a compliance mechanism disposed between the first and second grip plates, enabling the first and second grip plates to move closer together in response to a compressive force applied. One or more recesses or bores may be used for a more compact design, and the at least one hole may be on an angle to accommodate different drumming styles.

Abstract: A stick type drumstick is disclosed which includes a drumstick design featuring a hole drilled longitudinally at the striking end and an enlarged solid area positioned at the hole base. The purpose of the hole is to accommodate an insert of rods, nylon tube or a drumstick tip which when played produce different sounds. The purpose of the solid enlarged area is to provide a strong defined optional striking area, it can be struck harder to produce louder focused sounds assuring the stick area around the drilled hole is not struck and damaged which could compromise its ability to hold the insert. Striking with the area of the insert material provides additional sound possibilities. The result; combining these materials and features is a multi task drumstick. The combination of features utilized in this drumstick design cannot be found in the prior art of singular drumstick designs.

  • Patent number: 8389842
Abstract: A system and method for improving the gripping surface of the handle of a manual tool, implement, or instrument. In a preferred embodiment the present invention includes one or more elastomeric bands stretched over the handle of the tool, implement, or instrument. A shrinkable sleeve is then placed over the bands and shrunk tightly over the handle. The result is a ribbed gripping surface on the handle to improve gripability of the tool, implement, or instrument. In another preferred embodiment, adhesive is used to secure the elastomeric band to the handle before shrinking the sleeve to improve precision in the placement of the rings and durability of the finished gripping surface.

Abstract: A two-channeled cradle securely holds two drumsticks together to enhance organization and portability while preventing loss among other sticks. The cradle also prohibits drumsticks from rolling off a drum or any flat surface. The cradle can include two channels, side-by-side, formed in a C-shape with a diameter slightly less than that of the drumsticks, where the drumsticks can snap into the channels. In some embodiments, the cradle can be formed of two circular channels, where the drumsticks can be inserted into the channels. The cradle can have a flat bottom to help keep the cradle in place, without rolling or wobbling. By using the cradle, a drummer can reach into their stick bag and easily pull out a matched pair of drumsticks.
