  • Publication number: 20120240747
Abstract: A training and practice mallet for keyboard percussion instruments comprising a slender, substantially cylindrical mallet shaft with a gripping end and a striking end, the gripping end improved and enhanced with a pommel, or knob, affixed to the gripping end terminus, the pommel (knob) of suitable size to be gripped in the user's hand without impeding multi-mallet manipulation, and the striking end improved with a lightweight mallet head whereby a reduced volume is produced when striking a keyboard percussion instrument and in turn reducing fatigue and irritation in the user's hands and wrists. The training and practice mallet allows for increased control and confidence at low volumes while learning complex four-mallet grips. A pommel as described above and fitted to a conventional mallet for keyboard percussion instruments.

Abstract: This musical instrument assembly enables the user to control a percussive mallet with a foot-pedal. It operates by a cable threaded around the circumference of a wheel with attached mallet, the other cable end connects to the pedal. Cable housing and mounted fixtures at the entrance and exit of this housing provide a fixed path for the cable to move back and forth. Springs return the invention to its original position upon pedal's release. Flexible housing enables remote capability, equal function without requiring particular angle or distance between the pedal and beater assemblies. Mounting the mallet off either side of the wheel results in either downward or upward motion.

Abstract: The accessory for a drum stick includes a pair of support members defining a parting plane and an elongate channel defined by elongated substantially parallel arcuate recesses on opposing sides of the parting plain. Biasing members, in the form of closed loops or rings, secure the support members and draw the support members together to minimize the cross-sectional dimensions of the elongate channel when the support members about against each other in a contracted condition. The cross-sectional dimensions of the elongate channel increase when the support members are separated and moved in opposing directions to an expanded condition, resulting in restoring forces in the biasing members that tend to revert the support members to the contracted condition. Abstract: A drum stick accessory includes a pair of support members defining a parting plane and an elongate channel defined by elongated substantially parallel recesses on opposing sides of the parting plain. Closed resilient loops draw the support members together to minimize the channel cross-sectional dimensions. Restoring forces in the loops tend to revert the support members to the contracted condition. Insertion of a drum stick into the elongate channel separates the members and moves them from the contracted condition to an expanded condition against the action of the loops and the accessory can be reliably frictionally retained on the shaft of the drum stick due to restoring forces urging the support members against the drumstick. Hitting the drum stick as a percussion instrument provides additional sounds produced, for example, by steel shot within compartments formed in the supporting members or jingles attached thereto.

Abstract: An ergonomic drumstick comprising a shaft member and a grip member including a load face portion, an apex portion, and a bore. The grip member ergonomically fits the profile of a user's fingers, enabling the user to retain the drumstick in a particular position and to play comfortably for extended periods of time. The ergonomic drumstick allows a relaxed grip, reducing the shock transfer to the user's hands, which in turn reduces fatigue. The ergonomic drumstick also can be fully adjustable, and reusable, with a grip selectable for fit, profile and size.
