Trimming, Deburring, Or Other Finishing Operation Patents (Class 86/19.7)
  • Patent number: 10265774
Abstract: The adjustable case preparation tool polymer body has a tungsten carbide blade or blades, an adjustment screw, and a lock nut to secure the adjustment. The adjustment screw bears on a pin, which slides in a tube, which is held by friction fit in the molded or 3D printed body. The screw attaches the tool to a handle, prep center, or rotor. Colors identify calibers, and a tool fits every cartridge in that caliber by interchanging lengths of pins and tubes. The tool can be used with interchangeable spindle sleeves in increments of diameter for a precise fit. The flash hole deburring tool will not enlarge or chamfer a flash hole, and the neck turner will not mar a case mouth. The embodiments work on a case held in a case holder, and cutting stops when the pin through the flash hole touches the solid face of the case holder.

  • Publication number: 20140318352
Abstract: A case preparation and/or trimming assembly. The assembly may include a case shoulder engagement surface and a cutter. The spacing between the case shoulder engagement surface and the cutter is adjustable for changing the amount the cutter trims from a case. A case body engaging member may have an adjustable inner diameter for engaging bodies of cases having different diameters. A kit includes a case trimming assembly and a plurality of interchangeable case bearings (e.g., collets and/or bushings) adapted for engaging cases of different sizes for guiding the cases into proper position with respect to a cutter. The case preparation apparatus includes a support member for supporting a trimming assembly of the apparatus in an upwardly inclined orientation. The case preparation apparatus includes a storage container. Associated methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8827607
Abstract: An electric case trimmer assembly utilizes an inexpensive case adapter bearing to adapt for each size case. The case trimmer assembly includes an end mill for cutting excess material from the case. The end mill is fixed to a micrometer dial threadedly engaging a barrel. The case adapter bearing is fixed to the barrel. The micrometer dial is rotated to adjust the position of the end mill with respect to the case adapter bearing to precisely adjust the amount of material cut from the case. The case adapter bearing is easily changed to trim different cases.

  • Patent number: 8707844
Abstract: A portion of a work-hardened essentially tubular work piece such as a metallic firearm cartridge case is annealed by contact with solid or granular tooling material which has been heated to a temperature approximately that of the appropriate annealing temperature, thereby reducing the possibility of overheating the work piece, and also thereby permitting the annealing of only that portion of the work piece contacted or in close proximity to the point(s) of contact.

  • Patent number: 7650825
Abstract: A case trimmer and chamfer tool preferably includes a trim die, an end cutter, a crank, an outer chamfer blade, an inner chamfer blade and a height adjustment ring. The end cutter is slidably retained in the trim die. The inner and outer chamfer blades are spring loaded. The end cutter trims a length of the cartridge case. The inner and outer wall of the cartridge case are chamfered by the inner and outer chamfer blades. An adjustment boss extends downward from one end of the crank and a rotating knob is retained on the other end thereof. The end cutter is retained in the adjustment boss. The height adjustment ring is retained on the adjustment boss. A second embodiment is adapted for handling straight cartridge cases instead of rifle cartridge cases. The case trimmer and chamfer tool and a cartridge case are retained in a loading press.

  • Patent number: 7155789
Abstract: An improvement for a cartridge case trimmer which indexes on the shoulder of the case as established by the resizing die and permits a rotating cutter assembly to trim the neck of cases from the inside at a controllable angle. The cutter assembly includes a notched cutter with a cutting edge for length, a cutting edge for inside chamber, and a notched support plate with a guide which also serves as an outside deburring edge. The rotating cutter assembly has a flywheel mounted to it so as to stabilize the cutter while rotating to reduce the tendency to wobble. Set screws fit within the notches of the notched cutter and notched support plate to both hold them in place and to adjust them independently for the desired shape of the trimmed cartridge case neck.
