  • Patent number: 8695738
Abstract: A drivetrain for a plug-in hybrid vehicle which uses constant gear ratios, rather than any type of multi-gear transmission (traditional transmission gears or CVT) to power the driven wheels in order to increase drivetrain efficiency. A transmission is not a necessary drivetrain component for vehicles with an electric motor/generator (EMG). The EMG is the only mechanical power source until highway speeds are achieved. At that time, the driver may choose to activate and engage the small internal combustion engine (ICE) and the EMG is usually electrically disconnected so that it does not regeneratively charge the vehicle batteries using the power created by the ICE. Constant gear ratios may be achieved by a mechanical gearing system or by a belt drive system. This drivetrain is only for plug-in hybrid vehicles where the batteries are primarily charged by AC electrical outlet or solar (photovoltaic) cells.

Abstract: A continuously variable transmission for a hydraulic mechanism in hybrid cars with recovered power-split energy mainly comprises a multi-function planet differential gear train pump and a hydraulic variable pump (motor) of through shaft. The planet differential gear train pump provides a hydraulic constant pump, and a planet gear system thereof provides a speed-adjustable function as well as a speed-collecting function. Thereby, the planet differential gear train pump of the present invention is used to substitute the conventional planet gear system and the hydraulic constant pump in the continuously variable transmission. A power input shaft or a power output shaft of the hydraulic variable pump and the planet differential gear train pump are coaxially connected for uniaxially arranging the continuously variable transmission with the hydraulic mechanism power-split energy.

Abstract: A hybrid transmission is provided that is configured to shift between the hybrid series operating mode and the compound-split operating mode synchronously, without slipping any torque-transmitting mechanisms. The transmission includes an input member operatively connected with the engine, an output member, and a plurality of selectively engageable torque-transmitting mechanisms. A gearing arrangement and first and second motor/generators operatively connected with the gearing arrangement are also provided. A first of the torque-transmitting mechanisms is engaged to establish a hybrid series operating mode between the input member and the output member, and a second of the torque-transmitting mechanisms is engaged to establish a compound-split operating mode between the input member and the output member. The shift between the hybrid series operating mode and the compound-split operating mode is synchronous without slipping the torque-transmitting mechanisms and occurs while the engine is on.

Abstract: The present invention can achieve hybrid modes with an input split mode, output split mode, and complex split mode, by using only one set of stepped pinion planetary gear sets, one set of single pinion planetary gear sets, three clutches, and two brakes, ensure the space of a vehicle with a compact configuration and reduce the cost by implementing five stages of fixed gear ratio mode, and achieve continuous transmission gear ratios, and improve the fuel efficiency of the vehicle by changing the modes in accordance with the traveling conditions of the vehicle. Further, since it is possible to reduce the performance required for a motor generator under the same conditions, by improving the performance of the system, it is possible to reduce the cost of the vehicle. Accordingly, the present invention provides a power train for a hybrid vehicle that can contribute to reduce the cost of a vehicle.
