  • Patent number: 9462759
Abstract: A stump grinder has a grinding arm that durably mounts a rotatable grinding wheel by securing the drive shaft of a motor to the grinding wheel such that a pair of bearings within the motor support one side of the grinding wheel and by supporting the other side of the grinding wheel with a stub shaft received within a third bearing. The grinding arm is laterally offset on the frame of the stump grinder to have a swing angle that is not symmetrical relative to the width of the frame, but with the swing angle starting at one side of the frame and then traversing across substantially the entire width of the frame to improve the ability of the operator to see the grinding wheel. A single joystick is movable in orthogonal directions corresponding to desired up and down and side-to-side pivoting motions of the grinding arm. The joystick includes a depressible trigger for starting and stopping the operation of the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 5280745
Abstract: A variable-stroke radial-plunger-type apparatus for use as an air compressor, for example, has a main shaft rotatably disposed in a casing assembly, an eccentric collar angularly movably mounted on a eccentric crankpin of the main shaft, and a coupling ring angularly movably mounted on the eccentric collar. A plurality of radial plungers with inner ends coupled to the coupling ring are slidably fitted in respective cylinders that are rockably supported it the casing assembly. The angular movement of the eccentric collar on the crankpin is adjusted by a stroke adjusting mechanism. The coupling ring can be positioned with respect to the main shaft and the casing assembly by a W-mechanism. The W-mechanism may comprise external and internal gears or pulleys and sprockets.

  • Patent number: 5205123
Abstract: An infinitely variable differential hydrostatic transmission utilizing a fixed displacement pump/motor and a variable displacement pump/motor interconnected with appropriate valving, to provide a mechanical/hydraulic differential drive which is capable of achieving an overall efficiency in the 98.degree.-99.degree. range. In the preferred embodiment, which utilizes axial piston type pump motors, pistons in multiples of four are utilized in order that each piston will have a piston located 90.degree. from it to serve as its control valve. The fixed and variable displacement motor/pump are provided as an integral unit containing bearing mountings, cylinder barrels, valve ports, piston seal mountings, hydraulic flow passages, pressure reservoirs and manifolding by forming a series of individual segments and sealing them together into a single structural unit. A unique mounting arrangement is utilized to positively attach the pistons to an anti-friction swashplate which eliminates all side loads on the piston.

  • Patent number: 5081840
Abstract: This power plant utilizes a multi-cylinder hydraulic engine that has a plurality of pistons and cylinders arranged for reciprocal movement. Each piston is powered by a hydraulic fluid or air pressure. The fluid exhausted from one cylinder is sent to another cylinder to act as the inlet fluid to move that cylinder. The engine requires piston and cylinder arrangements in sets or multiples of four (such as 4, 8, 12, 16 and so forth) to provide a balanced system. The engine can be designed in many different arrangements such as four cylinder in line, four cylinder radial, eight cylinder radial, eight cylinder V-shaped, eight cylinder opposed and so forth. These cylinder arrangements can be linked together if desired to provide multiple engine power plants. The piston used in the present invention is a spool-type piston having distinct sections which create distinct upper and lower fluid areas in the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4898075
Abstract: An indexing mechanism comprising a member adapted to be advanced a predetermined amount and along a predetermined path, a pair of spaced drivers, and a control valve for operating the drivers in an alternative manner. The member adapted to be advanced defines a profile surface including a plurality of spaced radial segments. Each radial segment includes a crown section which is joined to an adjacent crown section by two oppositely directed ramps defining a fillet radius therebetween. The spacing between the drivers being such that when one driver is urged against a crown section the other driver acts against a fillet radius. The drivers are operated by the control valve 180.degree. out of phase relative to each other. A driver, after moving off a crown section, coacts with ramp to impart a driving force to the member. The driving force being sufficient to move the member in an indexed fashion the predetermined amount of its movement.

  • Patent number: 4598627
Abstract: A fluid motor operated by a gas or liquid and having two relatively rotatable parts comprises a plurality of pistons which cooperate with a cam member to produce the rotational output from the motor. The cam member has at least three similar lobes and forms one of the parts and the other part includes at least four cylinders each containing a piston. Each piston/cylinder combination also acts as a slide valve so as to control both the supply of fluid to one of the other pistons and the exhausting of fluid from another of the other pistons.

Abstract: A hydraulic motor with two sets of cylinders, the diameters of the two cylinder sets being of different dimension in order to produce three speed ranges. The pressure medium is directed to either both cylinder sets, the cylinder set of larger diameter of the cylinder set of smaller diameter by means of a valve structure comprising sliding spindles arranged in the hollow center axle of the motor, the pressure force of the pressure medium being utilized for moving the valve spindles.

  • Patent number: 4223593
Abstract: Disclosed is a hydraulic motor with a nutating member. The nutating member mounted for nutation on a spherical surface bearing which in turn is mounted on a casing, has first and second bevel gears on respective end faces thereof, the first bevel gear on one end face being in mesh with a bevel gear rigidly mounted on the casing while the second bevel gear on the other end face being in mesh with a bevel gear carried rigidly by a shaft. A swash plate mounted on the casing for coaxial rotation with the shaft has an inclined end face against which said one end face of the nutating member is made to contact and being pressed thereagainst under the forces of pistons so that the swash plate with the inclined end face is caused to rotate, whereby the nutating member is made to nutate. Such nutation of the nutating member due to extension and retraction of the pistons under hydraulic pressure in a predetermined sequence results in the rotation of the shaft or the casing with respect to each other.
