Patent number: 4624174Abstract: The former art provides multi stroke hydrostatic motors, which perform at a single revolution of the rotor multiple inward and outward strokes of the pistons. A high torque was thereby obtained. The invention discovers, that the known multi stroke motors are still too heavy, obtain small overall efficiencies and their power per size and weight is limited because the known motors failed to provide means to carry the tangential loads by fluid pressure power. The invention increases the power and efficiency of multiple stroke motors by the provisions of control means to control the flow of fluid pressure into pockets open to the piston faces and cylinder walls, whereby the torque of the rotor is transferred from the pistons to the cylinder walls by pressure in fluid in the pockets.Type: GrantFiled: April 17, 1984Date of Patent: November 25, 1986Inventor: Karl Eickmann

Patent number: 4552054Abstract: A radial piston machine wherein fluid flows through the cylinders which are provided in a rotor, the disclosure provides a radial bearing in the middle between a plurality of at least two radial cylinder groups. Thereby the former bearings which were provided on the ends of the rotor can be reduced to smaller sizes to carry a lower radial load. The provision of the bearing in the middle of the rotor prevents the former miniturization of the control bodies on the ends of the rotor. The control bodies can now be radially enlarged and the restriction of the flow through quantities of fluid through the control bodies is overcome. The devices are now able to operate with a better efficiency and power. In order to obtain these features the medial radial bearing in the middle between the cylinder group must be of the specific structures of this patent application.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1984Date of Patent: November 12, 1985Inventor: Karl Eickmann

Patent number: 4455125Abstract: A fluid pressure device of the type having reciprocating pistons disposed in associated cylinders formed in an engine block that rotates conjointly with a drive shaft mounted eccentrically to the spin axis of the engine block. The length of the piston strokes is determined by the offset distance between the spin axis of the engine block and the spin axis of the drive shaft, said respective axes being parallel to one another. At least two axially spaced banks of radially disposed pistons and complementally formed cylinders are provided and base plate means serve to rigidly interconnect axially adjacent pistons of the respective banks. Axially spaced bridle rings retain the opposed ends of the base plates and serve to rigidly interconnect diametrically opposed pairs of pistons. Openings formed in a stationary cylindrical housing transiently align with the rotating cylinders to provide the valving means for the device.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1980Date of Patent: June 19, 1984Inventor: Everett F. Patent number: 4454712Abstract: An external combustion engine has at least two axially spaced banks of radially disposed cylinders formed in a rotating engine block. A reciprocating piston is mounted in each cylinder. The block is rotatably mounted in an external engine housing and rotates about a first axis. A drive shaft is rotatably mounted in the external housing along a second axis parallel to but displaced from the first axis. The drive shaft extends through the central portion of the engine block and has a polygonal cross section with as many faces as there are pistons in each bank. Each piston engages a respective face of the polygonal drive shaft so that as the drive shaft and the engine block rotate together, the relative eccentric motion therebetween causes the pistons in each bank to reciprocate within their respective cylinders. A first bank of pistons is dedicated to the intake and compression of air drawn in from an air intake port in the external housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 1980Date of Patent: June 19, 1984Inventor: Everett F. Patent number: 4352319Abstract: The invention relates to a positive control especially radial piston motors for hydrostatic motors. Such control, while permitting a large range of rotational speed, is capable of avoiding disturbances in the oil flow occurring during coverage of the edges of includes slide valves and provides optimum smoothness of operation of the hydrostatic drive. It is the object of each slide valve to control the connection between an associated working cylinder and the inflow and outflow of the pressure medium. It is a further object of the slide valve to establish connection between the associated working cylinder and a pressure equalizing conduit, at least during coverage of a first pair of control edges, i.e. in a phase during which the working cylinder is cut off both from the pressure medium intake and from the pressure medium outlet. For this purpose the slide valve is provided with a second pair of control edges.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1979Date of Patent: October 5, 1982Inventors: Fritz Wegerdt, Kurt Woelk

Patent number: 4258548Abstract: A hydrostatic transmission, especially for a steer drive of a propulsion and steer drive transmission, having a variable displacement pump, a fixed displacement motor, and a pump displacement control, and including a low pressure fluid source supplying the charging and lubrication systems of the hydrostatic transmission and a high pressure source. The high pressure source, in a normal range of low hydrostatic power pressure values, provides control pressure regulated in proportion to high hydrostatic power pressure to meet the pressure requirements of the pump displacement control which increase with high hydrostatic power pressure. In an abnormal and lower range of low hydrostatic pressure values, the control pressure is regulated to decrease to zero as the low hydrostatic power pressure decreases to a minimum operating pressure value.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1979Date of Patent: March 31, 1981Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Arthur Hall, III, Warren E.
