  • Patent number: 6435075
Abstract: A fluid actuator attaches a hinged safety device to a vehicle and pivots the hinged safety device between retracted and extended positions. The housing of the actuator has a base and a removable cover. A sub-assembly is attached to the base. The subassembly includes a generally planar base member with integral right cylinder, lever arm pivot support and stop posts. A piston slides in the right cylinder and forms a fluid chamber between the piston and a closed end of the right cylinder that is fed through a passage through the closed end of the cylinder. A lever arm is pivotally attached to the lever arm pivot support at one end for pivotal movement between retracted and extended positions, the lever arm extending over the cylinder and having a lip at an opposite end that is spaced from the right cylinder. A pivot arm engages the top of the piston at one end and the lever arm at an opposite end to transfer motion from the piston to the lever arm.

  • Patent number: 6431842
Abstract: A fuel injection pump is provided which stops fuel discharge when a movable member for pressurizing the fuel is lifted beyond top dead center, thereby leaving a cam ring. The pump prevents the movable member from colliding with the cam ring and damaging the members of the pump. The movable member has a plunger. An outer diameter d of one portion of the plunger has a diameter smaller than an inner diameter D2 of an inner fitting surface of a cylinder in which the plunger is positioned. An outer diameter D1 of a different portion of the plunger is somewhat larger than the inner diameter D2 of the inner fitting surface of the cylinder. When a drive shaft overruns, the speed of an orbital movement of the cam. ring and a speed of reciprocating movements of the movable member increases. This causes an inertial force of the movable member in the lifting direction thereof to exceed an urging force of a spring. As such, the plunger is sometimes lifted beyond a top dead center.

Abstract: The invention proposes a hydraulic device of the kind including a cylinder in which a piston is mounted for sliding in leaktight fashion in the body of the cylinder so as to delimit at least one hydraulic chamber intended to be linked to a hydraulic circuit, and is linked to the front extremity of an actuating rod which projects axially rearwardly outside the cylinder body and on which an actuating force can be applied in order to cause forward displacement of the piston counter to a return force applied to the piston. The device includes a temporary end stop which limits the forward displacement of the piston and which intervenes until the piston is first actuated by means of the actuating rod. The invention is applicable to a hydraulic cylinder for the control of motor-vehicle equipment.

Abstract: The pump of the present invention preferably includes a housing having an inlet port, an outlet port and a chamber located in fluid communication with the inlet port and the outlet port. A diaphragm is sealingly secured in the chamber and, together with the housing, define a fluid passageway from the inlet port to the outlet port. An electromagnetic assembly or other driving device is preferably secured to the housing and is positioned to move the diaphragm in order to pump fluid through the pump. In some preferred embodiments, the electromagnetic assembly includes a plunger positioned and adapted to move the diaphragm against the biasing force of a spring. Improved diaphragms and diaphragm features are also disclosed, including a two-part diaphragm structure, diaphragm sealing portions for sealing the fluid chamber from driving and biasing assemblies of the pump, and inherently biased diaphragms.

The piston includes a hollow cylinder (17) with a base (18). In the hollow cylinder (17), a rod-shaped element (20) is adjustable against the force of a spring from a moved-in position into a moved-out position. Because the piston (16) and the setting element (20) move in the same direction, it is possible to achieve a telescopic design which leads to a short installation length which, in turn, results in a more advantageous buckling strength.

  • Patent number: 6347574
Abstract: A radial piston pump for generating high fuel pressure in fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines, having a drive shaft which is supported in a pump housing. The drive shaft is embodied eccentrically or has camlike protrusions in the circumferential direction. A plurality of pistons are disposed radially with respect to the drive shaft in a respective cylinder chamber. A plate is mounted on the ends of each piston toward the drive shaft, and the pistons are movable back and forth radially in the respective cylinder chamber by rotation of the drive shaft. Wear problems are solved by providing that the plate is pivotably connected to the associated piston. By the deflection of the plate on the piston, the load on the piston from moments of the bracing force is lessened.
