  • Patent number: 3994205
Abstract: An actuator for a spring brake used for parking and emergency has a spring operating on the brake push rod which will apply braking unless fluid pressure in the braking system applied to a piston overcomes spring pressure. To disable the spring brake the rod is retracted by a mechanism coupling the piston to the rod so that the brake is automatically restored into service when the piston is operated by the fluid pressure. The mechanism has a one-way clutch engaging a threaded push rod by means of a nut in non-self-locking engagement on the push rod threads.

  • Patent number: 3990351
Abstract: A pneumatic impact device comprising a housing, a drive piston and a piston rod. At the forward end of the piston rod there is attached a tool intended for metal working like punching, cropping or forging. The housing contains a drive chamber, an air charge chamber, a reverse chamber and a retard chamber. The piston rod is provided with two forward-facing, annular shoulders one of which constitutes a reverse piston for working in the reverse chamber and the other a retard piston for working in the retard chamber. For being protected from impact strains, the drive piston is longitudinally displaceable relative to the piston rod. During the working strokes, the drive piston cooperates with a backwardly facing shoulder on the piston rod, but just before the latter reaches the point where the tool hits the billet to be worked, the drive piston is stopped in the drive chamber and is thereby separated from the piston rod shoulder.

  • Patent number: 3983760
Abstract: A lever mechanism having an output end and an input end wherein the input end is pivotally mounted to a fixed support and provided with a track portion. The track portion has a spaced apart relationship to the pivot axis of the lever and is provided with a generally V-shaped portion and lateral side portions oppositely extending therefrom. A reference force is applied through a roller member which is positioned along the track by a variable input position signal applied thereto. The apex of the V-shaped portion is on a line through the pivot axis such that with the roller member held in a bottomed position and engaging both sides of the V-shaped portion there is no input moment applied to the lever mechanism and movement of the roller member in either direction from a null position produces a clockwise or counterclockwise motion of the output end of the lever mechanism, depending upon the direction of movement of the output end in response to the roller movement.

  • Patent number: 3976400
Abstract: A high pressure positive displacement gradient pump for two flowable materials utilizing two reciprocating pistons with the pair of pistons pumping in an overlapping reasonably pulse free manner. The gradient of the two flowable materials is created by adjustment of the stroke of each piston. Streams for the pair of pistons are combined and mixed in a mixing chamber. A third pair of pistons may deliver the mixed stream at high pressure to the desired location.

  • Patent number: 3975993
Abstract: A motor or processing machine, such as a lowspeed radial piston motor, having a piston with a socket formed therein operatively contacting a ball formed on one end of a piston rod, to form a ball-and-socket joint with articulated movement, and a shoe on the other end of the piston rod, adapted to glide on a rotating element of the machine, such as a crankshaft eccentric, in which the entire piston rod is formed from a bronze-base bearing metal, such as steel bronze. At least the shoe of the piston rod may be coated with a thin, soft run-in layer, such as tin, and a pocket may be formed in the shoe of the piston rod to provide hydrostatic relief.

  • Patent number: 3971217
Abstract: A fluid operated reciprocatable device has an outer, usually fixed, member nd an inner relatively movable member joined by a resilient member e.g., of rubber. The outer member is closed at one end so as to form an enclosure into which fluid under pressure can be admitted so as to displace the inner member in a given axial direction relative to the outer member. When a pulsating pressure is applied to the fluid the inner member vibrates axially in accordance with the pulses. The resilient member is proportioned so that its dimension in the axial direction is large in comparison with the thickness between the outer and inner members, e.g. 4 times larger. The properties of the resilient member are chosen so that it acts not only as a seal between the outer and inner members to contain fluid, but as a return spring whereby the inner member is returned, between fluid pulses, from an axially displaced position.

  • Patent number: 3951046
Abstract: A push rod and tappet assembly for a cam actuated pump in which a tappet having a barbed shank is lightly press fitted, during assembly, part-way into the hollow end of the push rod so that during the initial operating cycle of the pump, as the cam on which the tappet rides rotates through the first cycle of rotation, the pump piston to which the push rod is connected bottoms out and the shank of the tappet will then be forced further into the push rod to a position to thereafter provide substantially zero clearance in the pump.
