Abstract: A hydraulically-operated actuator for a braking mechanism on a cable drawworks is provided. The actuator can have an enclosed tubular main body capable of being connected to an external hydraulic system. The main body can further contain a spring-opposed hydraulic piston connected to an actuator rod. The actuator rod can extend out of the main body and can connect to a braking system for the drawworks. In operation, the springs can push on the hydraulic piston and hold the actuator rod in a fully extended position to engage the braking system. When pressure from the external hydraulic system is applied to the hydraulic piston, the hydraulic piston can compress the springs and retract the actuator rod into the main body, which can disengage the braking system.

  • Patent number: 4671485
Abstract: A solenoid-operated pilot valve of the diaphragm type which includes an assembly for controlling the flow of liquid through the valve. The valve has particular although not exclusive utility for irrigation purposes. The valve includes a diaphragm chamber into which fluid is introduced to establish a fluid pressure which normally forces a diaphragm against an annular seat in the valve to assist a spring in maintaining the valve in a closed condition. A stationary bleed tube is provided which extends through the diaphragm into the diaphragm chamber. A solenoid is mounted on the cap of the valve, and the plunger of the solenoid normally closes off the upper end of the bleed tube. However, when the solenoid is energized, the plunger is withdrawn and the bleed tube opens and drains the diaphragm chamber sufficiently to reduce the pressure therein to a point at which the diaphragm is forced off its seat by upstream fluid pressure, and the valve is opened.

Abstract: An activating apparatus or device, for example for a valve in a liquid conveying system operated by means of a vacuum. The activating apparatus comprises a normally latched or locked operating device which by means of a spring, or the like, is connected to a force accumulator. The force accumulator is moved by the influence of vacuum and thereby tightens the spring which, when a lock arm disengages from the operating device, is released so that the operating device is moved, and thereby opens the valve.

  • Patent number: 4495789
Abstract: A device for use with a hydraulic cylinder or like for straightening frame members, which converts the extension stroke of the cylinder to a pulling action. The device has a pair of interengaging outer members which are formed to define an elongate cage. The interengaging members are slidably connected to one another for relative movement in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the cage. Retaining means are mounted on the interengaging outer members, which are adapted to removably retain a hydraulic cylinder within the cage aligned along the central longitudinal axis, so that extension of the cylinder causes a contraction of the interengaging member along the direction of the longitudinal axis. The interengaging members are adapted at opposite ends for connection to a frame member to be straightened.

  • Patent number: 4496033
Abstract: A pair of axially aligned and nested pistons are mounted in a pressure sealed arrangement within the bore of a pressure housing. A primary piston is moved in response to increasing pressure to provide an actuating output force while a secondary piston simultaneously moves to overcome a reverse bias on it by a tension spring and adds to the actuating force by engaging the primary piston only when the pressure exceeds a specific higher threshold. The primary and secondary pistons thereafter operate in conjunction under the influence of high pressure to provide the output actuating force.

  • Patent number: 4472996
Abstract: A series of toys having unique motions are activated by a fluid propelled propulsion device. The propulsion device includes a housing with a cylinder located thereon. A pressurized fluid reservoir connects to the cylinder via a valve. The valve has provisions for introducing pressurized fluid into the cylinder and exhausting pressurized fluid out of the cylinder. A piston is located in the cylinder and in response to introduction of pressurized fluid into the cylinder, moves in a power stroke. This is followed by an exhaust stroke wherein the piston moves in the opposite direction. A piston output member is associated with the piston and extends out of the cylinder. The piston output member moves linearly in response to movement of the piston in its power and exhaust strokes. A connecting mechanism connects the piston output member and the valve. The connecting mechanism includes a first movable member and a second movable member and a biasing member.

  • Patent number: 4388044
Abstract: A liquid storage tank for providing a liquid under pressure in such a way that pressurized air will not be absorbed by the liquid is disclosed. According to one embodiment of this invention, the pressurized storage tank of this invention having side walls and an end wall uses a plunger or a plate having a seal which is biased to move within the tank as water or liquid is forced into the tank or withdrawn from the tank. According to this embodiment, springs may be positioned in different arrangements and used to provide the bias that maintains the water or liquid under pressure. Still other embodiments use mass or weight while still others use power actuated means or air pressure for providing the necessary bias. In other embodiments of the invention, the tank may include a seal and/or a collapsable liner to prevent any of the liquid from passing the plunger or piston. The addition of a collapsable liner is especially useful if the liquid to be maintained under pressure is corrosive.
