Abstract: Methods and apparatus for changing actuator output torques are disclosed. An example method includes decoupling a first end cap from a body of an actuator. A first spring assembly is positioned within a first outer chamber defined by the first end cap and the body. A first end of the first spring assembly is positioned adjacent a surface of a first piston. A second end of the first spring assembly is positioned adjacent the first end cap when the first end cap is coupled to the body. The method includes positioning a first spacer within the first outer chamber and coupling the first end cap to the body. The first spacer changes a distance between the first and second ends of the first spring assembly when the first end cap is coupled to the body to change an output torque of the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4352320
Abstract: A single-acting operating cylinder assembly includes a cylinder and piston of rectangular cross section and a spring arrangement for initially forcing the piston into one operating position. The piston has an axial recess with transverse end walls. A stop block is located within the recess and securable to the cylinder for movement of the piston with respect to the stop block. The spring arrangement is formed by a plurality of side-by-side lying helical compression springs supported between the stop block and the recess end wall opposite the stop block. In one embodiment, the stop block is positioned with respect to the cylinder by an eccentric disk adjustable for adjusting both end positions of the piston in the same direction while retaining a constant piston stroke. In a second embodiment, fixed pins and an adjustable disk connect a modified stop block with the cylinder for adjustability of the length of the piston stroke with one of the piston end positions held constant.

Abstract: A metering and conveyor arrangement for liquids to be mixed, in which several parallel-connected delivery pumps are actuated by a drive unit. Each liquid is assigned to a pair of delivery pumps. Each pair consists of two piston pumps alternately performing an intake and a discharge cycle. The pumps are moveable relative to each other, as well as perpendicular to the piston rods. A swivel element is joined to the drive unit, and rocker arms are located on both sides. Each of the rocker arms is connected with one of the piston pumps of a pair, and the ends of the piston rods are located and guided in grooves of the rocker arms. Each pair of the piston pumps is regulated by an adjustment spindle which is common to one pair of piston pumps. The adjustment spindle has two parts with opposite threads. They are connected by a lockable coupling. One spindle part is each associated with one piston pump of one pair.

Abstract: An actuator is provided for converting linear to rotary motion to manipulate a valve. Preferably, the actuator has a rotor which is rotatable about an axis and is operably associatable with the valve member. A pair of motors, preferably actuated by pressure fluid, each includes a reciprocal push rod assembly. Flexible means are coupled between the push rod assemblies of the motors and spaced apart points on the rotor such that when one of the motors is actuated, the respective one of the push rod assemblies is moved linearly in a direction to transmit torque to the rotor, thus causing the rotor to rotate about its axis in one direction and manipulate the valve member to one of open and closed positions, and when the other of the motors is actuated, the other of the push rod assemblies is moved linearly in an opposing direction to transmit torque to the rotor whereby the rotor is rotated about its axis in an opposite direction to manipulate the valve to the other of open and closed positions.

A gate operating mechanism includes a power drive device secured between a relatively fixed support and a cross head, connected with the gate, for moving the gate between closed and open positions. The loading gate assembly further comprises a mount for the support normally positioning it in a fixed location relative to the outlet yet being operable to displace the support in the direction of closing movement of the gate. • Patent number: 4189070
Abstract: A machine for metering and mixing two or more liquids, which are rapidly reactive to form a solid polymer, immediately prior to the injection of the liquids into a molding machine. The machine is characterized by two or more metering cylinders into which the liquid reactants are introduced from supply sources and ejected in stoichiometric ratio into a mixing head for injection into a molding machine. The machine is capable of both incremental and continuous variation of stoichiometric ratio. The first is achieved by provision of removable cylindrical liner sleeves of varying inside diameter and corresponding pistons for the mixing cylinders. The latter is achieved through the use of a movable fulcrum lever arm to control the stroke of the piston of at least one of the metering cylinders. The mixer head is characterized by a mixing chamber, a plurality of impingement jet nozzles oppositely spaced and the flow from which is characterized by Reynolds numbers exceeding about 120.
