  • Patent number: 4472981
Abstract: The invention relates to belt cylinders, i.e. piston rodless operating cylinders in which steel belts, in particular, are used in transferring force; even during production, belts of this kind have the negative property of not being sufficiently straight, instead they are bow shaped and this leads to break downs in that the belts either destroy the flanges on the deflecting rollers in a very short time or, if there are no flanges, they run off the rollers; for this reason despite the technical advantages, belt cylinders have not been successful in practice.A satisfactory operation of these belt cylinders may be achieved if, and only if, the belts which transfer force from the piston to the force pick-up are in absolute alignment.

  • Patent number: 4467705
Abstract: Within a cylinder of a double-acting piston-and-cylinder unit there is displaceably arranged a piston. A spatially moveable piston rod in the form of a universal or ball pivot-link chain is connected with the piston. The piston rod is lengthwise guided by tensioning or tie bolts internally of the cylinder, these tensioning bolts clamping towards one another both of the cylinder heads and piercingly extending through the cylinder. Externally of the piston-and-cylinder unit the piston rod is guided within a guide tube which is connected with one of the cylinder heads. This guide tube can possess a random spatial extent. At the piston rod there is attached a coupling element with which there can be coupled the object or the like which is to be moved. This coupling element extends through a longitudinal slot provided in the guide tube. The spatial mobility of the piston rod enables guiding the piston rod externally of the piston-and-cylinder unit in a random direction.

  • Patent number: 4191016
Abstract: A pumping jack for use with a well having a vertically reciprocable polish rod has a base including a horizontally extending table. A hydraulic cylinder is mounted on the base, with the cylinder axis extending parallel to and above the table. A plunger is reciprocable in the cylinder along the axis and carries with it a block including a first sheave around which a first flexible line is reeved. One end of the first line is affixed to the base, and the other end of the first line extends around a well sheave mounted on the base with the well sheave periphery tangent to the polish rod, the line from the well sheave being affixed to the polish rod. The reciprocating parts are balanced at least in part in either of two ways. In one way, there is a pneumatic chamber variable in volume in accordance with the reciprocation of the polymer and provided with air under an elevated pressure sufficient to counterbalance or offset part of the reciprocating load.

  • Patent number: 4184383
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a dual stroke drive mechanism of any size for a reciprocating device, such as a piston of a pump. It is particularly concerned with such a driving mechanism having means for selecting a particular stroke-length. It is more specifically concerned with a drive mechanism capable of imparting either one of two set stroke-lengths and means for selecting one of the stroke lengths before, or at certain intervals during, operation of the mechanism. The drive mechanism converts rotary movement of an input member into reciprocating rectilinear movement of an output member which may be connected to a piston and reciprocates the latter. A preferred application is in the field of sampling pumps for distributing liquid samples of small sizes into vials for analysis.

  • Patent number: 4161137
Abstract: A rocker wheel jack is arranged on a compact frame so that the driving mechanism is placed below the rocker wheel. The mechanism is adjustable so as to vary the spacing between it and a drive wheel. The rocker wheel is adjustably spaced from the drive wheel. A pitman connects the drive wheel and the rocker wheel. The pitman connections to the wheels are further adjustable radially to the wheels. Thus a jack is provided with a possibility of multiplicity of adjustments and a minimum of vertical space and of weight for the jack. The complete unit is readily movable. The driving mechanism is readily accessible for repair or replacement. An oil level sensor is provided in the well with connections transmitting its output to the R.P.M. of the jack.

  • Patent number: 4147477
Abstract: A pair of pumps which are joined by a flexible connection passing over spaced rotatable devices positioned for rotation in a substantially vertical plane. The rotatable devices are driven alternately in clockwise and counterclockwise directions whereby the lifting of one pump occurs as the other pump is lowered. To facilitate the pumping operation, a counterweight is operatively associated with the flexible connection intermediate the pair of rotatable devices.

  • Patent number: 4141675
Abstract: A fuel pump for providing fuel at relatively high pressure is activated by gas pressure, created during the compression stroke of an internal combustion engine. The pump includes a piston and a hollow plunger which are biased by a single spring in opposite directions. The piston, which is exposed to gases in the engine's cylinder, is urged, by the gas pressure in the cylinder during the compression stroke, to move upwardly. A limit is placed on the piston's upward stroke. When reaching the upward limit the pressure which is applied to fuel in a fuel chamber is only a function of the force applied by the spring to the plunger. When fuel ejection is enabled, the spring pushes the plunger toward the fuel chamber to eject the fuel therefrom. Toward the end of the exhaust stroke the piston moves toward the engine cylinder, forcing the plunger to move in the same direction until the latter's travel is limited by limiting means. Fuel is then injectable into the fuel chamber for subsequent ejection.

  • Patent number: 4124334
Abstract: The invention involves an improved design for a diaphragm pump. The inlet and outlet valves for the pump have guided stems that prevent the valves from misaligning and jamming during operation. The stems extend away from each other enabling the valve heads to be moved close to each other so that the pump bowl can be made relatively short. The pump diaphragms include rim portions that cover and protect the members securing it in the pump. The stroke of the pump is adjustable by an arrangement that can vary the size of the stroke while keeping the suction and discharge portions of the stroke equal.

  • Patent number: 4121738
Abstract: Apparatus for the continuous feeding of plural liquids in separate streams of adjustable quantity and ratio, comprises a drive unit that drives a main pump, and that also drives at least one secondary pump. The drive unit has an oscillating or reciprocating movement, and so the pumps are piston pumps or oscillating vane-type pumps. The stroke of the secondary pump or pumps may be selectively shortened without shortening that of the main pump, so as to predetermine the proportions of the liquids to each other. The system is particularly applicable for the feeding of separate streams of synthetic resins by the main pump, and the associated hardeners, catalysts, accelerators or other auxiliary liquids by the secondary pump or pumps.
