  • Patent number: 8687299
Abstract: An attachment mechanism includes a compliance member positioned between a body and bayonets. The bayonets collectively define an aperture therebetween. Alignment members prevent rotation of the bayonets relative to the body while allowing the bayonets to move radially outwardly against the compliance member. When a second attachment mechanism is received in the aperture of the first attachment mechanism, relative rotation therebetween may interlock corresponding bayonets thereof. The attachment mechanisms may release from one another in a drop event or other incidence of force applied thereto by allowing a bayonet to radially move outwardly out of contact with a corresponding bayonet of the second attachment mechanism. Related methods are also provided.

Abstract: An improved brake actuator, particularly an improved sealed service chamber, having a flexible tubular seal affixed at one end in the central pushrod opening in sealed relation and surrounding the pushrod in sealed relation in the service chamber housing. The improved seal is generally hourglass-shaped including a midportion which closely circumscribes the pushrod in sealed relation and a free end portion which closely circumscribes the pushrod. A relatively inflexible generally diamond-shaped washer surrounds the midportion of the seal which improves sealing, assures concentricity of the tubular seal, prevents the seal from being pushed through the pushrod opening and provides for easy assembly of the seal and washer assembly in the service chamber around the pushrod. The improved end wall of the service chamber housing includes an offset recessed central portion surrounding the mounting bolts and relatively thin preferably V-shaped contact surfaces which generally circumscribe the recessed portion.

Abstract: A rodless cylinder is coupled to an elongated base. The construction for coupling the rodless cylinder to the base includes a hollow duct formed in the bottom wall of the base and extending along the entire length of the base. A projection extending along the entire length of the duct is formed on the upper inner wall of the duct when the base and duct are formed by a drawing or extrusion process. After the base is formed, the longitudinal ends of the projection are cut off by a predetermined length from both longitudinal ends of the base. The portions of the duct from which the projections are cut off act as receiving portions into which mounting nuts are inserted, and the end faces of the remaining projection act as stoppers which abut the inserted mounting nuts to position them. The upper walls of the duct above the receiving portions are cut off to form slits opening to the upper face of the base. The slits act as mounting bolt passages of the rodless cylinder.

Abstract: Disclosed are techniques and apparatus for flexibly mounting a mechanism. The embodiments describe a flexible mount that is at once tolerant of misalignment, shock resistant, insensitive to rotational orientation, compact, and failure resistant. A mechanism is rigidly attached to a retainer that interlocks with a stationary housing and confines and compresses annular resilient members. The methods may in particular apply to the mounting of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders for actuation of a shutter assembly in an optical system. In addition the techniques can apply to the flexible mounting of other mechanisms incorporating movable members having axes of symmetry, including push rods and rotating shafts.

Abstract: A fluid cylinder assembly of the kind provided with a cylinder tube in which a piston coupled by a piston rod operates. The cylinder tube has one end connected with a rod cover. The piston rod passes through an aperture in the rod cover and projects outwardly. The rod cover is associated with means for mounting the fluid cylinder assembly on a frame and a load transducer which converts a change in load axially acting thereon to a change in voltage or current and develops an electric signal. The movement of a lead wire extending outwardly of the load transducer is precluded, and the results of measurement are obtained with a high degree of accuracy.

The Z-axis positioning stage includes at least one collapsible/expandable cell or cavity that is defined within a region bounded by a lower and a movable upper surface and a side wall depending therefrom. Means for collapsing/expanding the cavity is operatively connected to the cavity. During collapse of the cavity, the upper surface drops towards the lower surface. During expansion of the cavity, the upper surface rises away from lower surface.
