Publication number: 20110315140Abstract: A vacuum pressure swing absorption system provides portable oxygen to medical patients. A pair of sieve beds are alternately pressurized with air and evacuated by vacuum by coordinated operation of a selector valve and a vent valve. Product gas flows from both sieve beds through respective check valves to a product tank. An equalization valve is operated in coordination with the selector valve and the vent valve to open a flow path between the sieve beds and allow pressure to equalize therebetween. Operation of the vent valve is time to occur after pressure in the sieve beds has equalized. Components of the concentrator are tuned so that the equalization pressure occurs at about zero pounds per square inch (psi). This reduces energy loss due to free expansion of gasses and reduces noise created by the venting of gasses to the ambient atmosphere.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2010Publication date: December 29, 2011Applicant: PRECISION MEDICAL, INC.Inventor: Aaron Jeffrey Shuman

Patent number: 8075677Abstract: A carbon canister with a valve activated by the weight of nearly saturated or saturated carbon communicates with piping from an underground tank. The invention includes carbon within a casing inside a canister, a weight actuated valve, and piping in communication with the atmosphere. When an ORVR vehicle refuels, the pressure lowers in the tank that draws air into the canister. After refueling, the tank remains subject to conditions that generate hydrocarbon vapors. Those vapors then return to the canister and adhere to the surface of the carbon. The carbon, heavier with hydrocarbons, lowers the canister and closes the weight actuated valve. Closing the valve returns pressure control to an external pressure vacuum relief valve. The next refueling draws in atmospheric air to purge the hydrocarbons in the canister and thus lighten it. A secondary purge valve also removes hydrocarbons from the canister. Once the carbon lightens, the inlet valve opens and the vapors return to the canister for adsorption.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2009Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Husky CorporationInventors: Timothy Schroeder, Darrell Vilmer, Arthur C. Patent number: 7704304Abstract: An improved sieve bed design to manage breakthrough and the mass transfer zone by way of volumetric division. An empty space in the product end is separated from adsorbent-filled sieve space in the feed end by a mid-diffuser plate. Patent number: 7011693Abstract: A PSA unit for purifying hydrogen in a fuel processor system. The PSA unit employs rotary valves that cycle the pressurization of vessels, including an adsorbent, between a high pressure state and a low pressure state. The purified hydrogen is released from the vessels through a purified gas output port when the vessels are in the high pressure state and the impurities are released through an exhaust port when the vessels are in the low pressure state. The PSA unit also employs a mass flow control device and a pressure sensor in the purified gas output port. A controller receives a pressure signal from the pressure sensor, and controls the flow through the mass flow control device and the speed of the rotary valves so that the proper pressure is maintained at the hydrogen output port.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 2003Date of Patent: March 14, 2006Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Kiran Mallavarapu, John B Ruhl, Craig S.
