Patent number: 5725639Abstract: An air dehumidifier or drier, particularly for a motor vehicle, has an air guiding housing defining three parallel air flow paths, which are defined by a common main air chamber separating two laterally spaced apart secondary air chambers. A reactor containing an adsorbent is positioned between the secondary air chambers, the common main air chamber being defined between the reactors. Air-flow control elements are positioned in each of the main and secondary air chambers. The control elements are pivotal between two operating positions. In each position, one of the reactors is in adsorption operation (dehumidify air) while the other reactor is in desorption operation (reactor being dried or recharged). The desorption air directed to the reactor being dried is heated by a heat exchanger, which has an air passageway for exhausting the air used for drying the reactor. Thus, the desorption air directed to the reactor being dried is preheated using the energy from the exhausting air.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1996Date of Patent: March 10, 1998Assignees: Bayerische Motoren Werke Aktiengesellschaft, Mercedes-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventors: Noureddine Khelifa, Robert Hoeppler, Wolfgang Odebrecht

Patent number: 5685896Abstract: A check valve mechanism is disclosed for a twin tower gas drying system. The drying system filters unpurified gas to supply purified gas to a pneumatic system. The purified gas is supplied alternately from each tower to the mechanism for distribution in an output percentage to the pneumatic system and in a purge percentage to the drying system for purging moisture previously collected. The mechanism includes a valve body and a shuttle choke. The body defines first and second channels connected to the first and second towers, respectively; a shuttle tube having first and second ends connected to the first and second channels, respectively; and an output passage having an initial end communicating with the pneumatic system and a terminal end communicable with the tube. The choke defines an orifice and slides between the ends. When purified gas flows from the first tower, the choke slides to the second end.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1996Date of Patent: November 11, 1997Assignee: Westinghouse Air Brake CompanyInventors: T. Patent number: 5641344Abstract: A fuel vapor treatment device or canister for a vehicle evaporative emission control system has a casing filled with a fuel vapor absorbent material in its chamber. A relay pipe projects outwardly from one end the casing and communicates with the chamber. A liquid-fuel separator having a cavity is sealingly mounted to the one end of the casing so that the relay pipe extends into the cavity. Inlet and outlet pipes, which communicate with the cavity and fuel vapor, are formed in the separator. A fuel vapor outflow passage is formed inside the separator and communicates with the outlet pipe. The suction pipe has a reduced size section with an orifice. A liquid-fuel suction pipe, which communicates with the outflow passage through the orifice, extends perpendicularly downwardly from the outflow passage. The suction pipe extends from the orifice to the area where the liquid-fuel collects.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1995Date of Patent: June 24, 1997Assignee: Tsuchiya Mfg., Co., Ltd.Inventors: Masafumi Takahashi, Yuji Chino, Hiroyuki Yoshida
