The chamber is surrounded on one face by the HEPA filter, and by sound absorbing padding on at least 4 other faces. Air is forced from the HEPA filter, through the open chamber and then through the sound absorbing padding by a flow restrictor plate. Air flows from here through air channels and into an open chamber leading to an outlet from the air silencer/filter.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2002Date of Patent: March 9, 2004Assignee: Porous Media CorporationInventors: Keith Roberts, Chaouki Khamis

Patent number: 6680028Abstract: A portable air purifier system and apparatus which includes a multi-element filter pack that is replaceable as a single unit, thus facilitating health safety of maintenance personnel. By serially disposing filter elements in order of descending sizes of particulates, filtering is improved. Selectably includable within the filters are materials that are particularly efficacious in removing contaminants such as acetone, ammonia, ozone, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, ethanol, methane, ethane, methanol, formaldehyde, hydrogen sulfide and other hazardous substances. By including an ultra-violet light source directed onto an activated charcoal layer, germicidal action is facilitated, and noise is abated through the advantageous employment of an expanded plenum and multiple right angle bends in air passageways.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1999Date of Patent: January 20, 2004Assignee: Clean Air Research & Engineering, Inc.Inventor: Charles D. Patent number: 6626984Abstract: An apparatus for removing dust and fumes from a flow of air, particularly a flow of air exhausted from an industrial work area. There is a large, cylindrical filter element mounted within a cylindrical collector barrel so as to define an annular flow space between the two. A vane assembly is mounted at the top of the collector barrel for directing the incoming flow of air along a generally cyclonic path through the flow space, so that sparks and heavy particulates are forced outwardly away from the surface of the filter element, thereby increasing filter life and reducing the chance of fire. The filter element and collector barrel are mounted atop a cabinet which encloses a blower and a silencer section. The silencer section includes one ore more chambers having interior walls for redirecting the flow of air exiting the blower, and the walls are lined with an acoustic insulation material for absorbing sound energy as the flow of air is redirected, thus reducing noise emissions from the assembly.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2000Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: FSX, Inc.Inventor: R. Patent number: 6503303Abstract: An enclosure for an air aspirating machine, such as a compressor 11 for a fuel cell drive 13, which represents a closed volume, so that said volume can be used acoustically for the air that is being drawn in. An air intake 17 is extended into the enclosure 12, which is made of a sound damping and absorbing material 18, so that the resonant cavity 19 acts as a series resonator. The air is drawn in via an air inlet 21 of the compressor 11. Alternatively, the resonant cavity can also be used as a parallel resonator in that the intake path for the air is sealed within the enclosure 12 and is provided only with sound communicating openings to the resonant cavity.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2001Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: Filterwerk Mann & Hummel GmbHInventor: Rolf Fuesser

Patent number: 6497753Abstract: A device for cleaning gases includes a housing and a plurality of electrostatic filter units. Each of the filter units have a tube-shaped covering, and the housing has an intake opening at one end and an outlet opening at the other end for gas flow. The filter units have an essentially airtight arrangement within the housing. The filter units combine to form a filter assembly arranged inside the housing such that the assembly can be inserted and removed from the housing in one piece.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2001Date of Patent: December 24, 2002Assignee: Baltic Metalltechnik GmbHInventor: Rudolf Gutmann

Patent number: 6451097Abstract: An air treatment plant includes a waste gas vent connected to structure (50) for attenuating the noise conducted by this waste gas. The noise attenuation structure (50) is a substantially closed and at least partially buried enclosure (52). The invention applies especially to plants for separating air by pressure swing adsorption.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2000Date of Patent: September 17, 2002Assignee: L'Air Liquide Societe Anonyme a Directoire et Conseil de Surveillance pour l'Etude et l'Exploitation des Procedes Georges ClaudeInventors: Philippe Andreani, Christian Berta, Thomas Wellnitz

Patent number: 6361590Abstract: A portable air cleaner including a housing defining an air inlet, an air outlet, and an air flow path therebetween, a centrifugal blower retained within the air flow path and operable to draw air through the inlet and a filter retained within the housing and disposed to transmit air circulating in the air flow path out of the outlet. Also included is a conveyor surrounding the blower and defining a scroll shaped passage having one end disposed to receive air from the blower and an opposite end disposed to discharge air into the filter, the conveyor being shaped and arranged to obstruct all rectilinear paths between the blower and the opposite end.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 2000Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Honeywell International Inc.Inventors: Duane L.
