Abstract: A keyboard includes a plurality of key row holders each supporting a plurality of key elements constituting each of the plurality of key rows, a support shaft placed to be rotatable about an axial center and support the plurality of key row holders arranged to intersect the axial center, an engaging portion formed on a support surface of each of the plurality of key row holders for the support shaft, and an engaged portion formed spirally on a surface of the support shaft in a direction of the axial center so as to be engaged with the engaging portion of each of the plurality of key row holders, the engaged portion causing the plurality of key row holders to shift in the direction of the axial center by an engagement with the engaging portion upon rotation of the support shaft. The keyboard enables easy and accurate key pitch adjustment.

Abstract: A wireless communications device, such as a cellular telephone, includes first and second bodies having respective perimeters. A display is associated with one of the bodies and user input is associated with the other. A hinge mechanism moveably couples the bodies together so that the second body may pivot between a closed state and an open state. The second body, while in the open state, is slidable from a first open position to a second open position along the perimeter of the first body. The first and second bodies may have respective major axes, and the major axes may be substantially parallel when the second body is in the first open position. The major axes may advantageously also be substantially parallel when the second body is in the second open position. The bodies may include respective peripheral slots along which the hinge mechanism moves.

Abstract: An apparatus has a keyboard panel with a QWERTY array of alphabetic key actuation indicia. The apparatus further has a QWERTY array of keys that are free of alphabetic key actuation indicia, and are located adjacent to corresponding alphabetic key actuation indicia on the keyboard panel. Other parts of the apparatus include an output device responsive to actuation of the keys, and a processing device operatively coupled between the keys and the output device. Summarized alternatively, the apparatus includes a keyboard with keys arranged in arcuate horizontal rows. The keys in each row have centerlines projecting radially from a respective common centerpoint.

Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus enabling users to input/manipulate data for portable computer systems. In one embodiment, the present invention is comprised of a segmented keyboard adapted to be coupled with a portable computer system. In the present embodiment, the segmented keyboard is comprised of a first flippable portion and second flippable portion, both of which are hinged to the fixed portion of the segmented keyboard. A compliment of input keys are disposed within those portions. In the present embodiment, a first rotatable hinge is coupled with the segmented keyboard. A second rotatable hinge is coupled with the first rotatable hinge. In the present embodiment, an electrical connector is coupled with the second rotatable hinge. The electrical connector is adapted to provide a communicative link between the segmented keyboard and a coupled portable computer system. The present invention, when in a closed position, is of a size and shape approximate to a portable computer system.

Abstract: A hand-held electronic device with a hidden keyboard, especially for small size electronic devices with a display screen (such as PDAs, mobile phones, etc), provides a keyboard coupling design to allow a retractable keyboard retreated and hidden inside a device body of the electronic device when not in use, and pulled out for data entry when in use.
