Publication number: 20130033785Abstract: A suspension for a head gimbal assembly includes a flexure having a laminated structure including a substrate layer, an insulating layer formed on the substrate layer, and a conducting layer formed on the insulating layer. And first bonding pads are formed on the conducting layer at a first surface of the flexure, so as to electrically connect with a slider via solder balls, and second bonding pads are formed on the substrate layer at a second surface of the flexure opposite to the first surface, so as to electrically connect with extra components formed at the second surface via solder balls. The suspension can connect slider and other extra components at two opposite surfaces of the flexure with a simplified and compacted structure and a reduced cost.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2011Publication date: February 7, 2013Applicant: SAE Magnetics (H.K.) Publication number: 20120069721Abstract: A recorder has a recording medium for information recording, a light source, an optical system, a slider, and an optical waveguide. To the optical system, light from the light source enters, and the slider moves relative to the recording medium while not in contact therewith. The optical waveguide is arranged at position facing the recording medium in the slider so that light entering from the optical system is irradiated on the recording medium. Where the mode field diameter of the optical waveguide on the light output side is d and the mode field diameter thereof on the light input side is D, the mode field diameter is converted by smoothly changing the diameter of the optical waveguide to satisfy D>d.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 23, 2011Publication date: March 22, 2012Inventors: Naoki Nishida, Hiroaki Ueda, Manami Kuiseko, Koujirou Sekine, Kenji Konno, Masahiro Okitsu, Hiroshi Hatano

Publication number: 20120050916Abstract: Disc drive spindle motor having hydro bearing including a central axis; a stationary member which is fixed with respect to a housing and coaxial with the central axis; a stator is fixed with respect to the housing; a rotatable member which is rotatable about the central axis with respect to the stationary member; a rotor supported by the rotatable member and magnetically coupled to the stator; a hydro bearing interconnecting the stationary member and the rotatable member and having working surfaces separated by a lubricating fluid. The lubricating fluid contains a synthetic ester base fluid having a viscosity index of at least 110, from 0.01% to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the lubricating fluid, of at least one tri-C6-C14-aryl phosphate, and from 0.01% by weight to 5% by weight, based on the total weight of the synthetic ester base fluid, of at least one carbodiimide.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Applicant: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventor: Raquib Uddin Khan

Publication number: 20110051288Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording system has a write head having a main coil (the write coil) and main pole (the write pole) that directs write flux in a direction perpendicular to the recording layer in the magnetic recording medium, and a transverse auxiliary pole (TAP) that injects auxiliary magnetic flux into the write pole at an angle to the primary or perpendicular axis of the write pole. The additional flux from the TAP, which is injected non-parallel to the primary magnetization of the write pole, exerts a torque on the magnetization of the write pole, thereby facilitating magnetization reversal of the write pole. The TAP is coupled to the main coil but not electrically connected to it. A separate passive coil, not electrically connected to the main coil, may be wrapped as a loop around the main pole and the TAP. Alternatively, the TAP may be located near one of the electrically conductive turns of the main coil.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2009Publication date: March 3, 2011Applicant: HITACHI GLOBAL STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES NETHERLANDS B.V.Inventors: John Thomas Contreras, Manfred Ernst Schabes

Publication number: 20100315743Abstract: A substrate for a magnetic read/write head is disclosed. The substrate can reduce detachment of crystal grains when unexpected vibrations or impacts are applied. The substrate may be machined when the substrate is cut into strips or a flow path surface recess is formed to produce the magnetic read/write head. The reduced detachment of crystal grains makes the magnetic read/write head more resilient to chipping, which allows the magnetic read/write head to have good performance in read/write.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2010Publication date: December 16, 2010Applicant: KYOCERA CorporationInventors: Yucong WANG, Shuji Nakazawa, Takuya Gentsu
