Abstract: Materials derived from cinnamon can be administered orally to humans or animals for the purpose of controlling blood glucose as well improving glucose tolerance. Controlling glucose metabolism is essential for those with impaired glucose metabolism as is the case for those with Type II diabetes where insulin function is not properly functioning. Such administration can also be used for the purpose of enhancing nutrient transport for purposes of athletic performance and controlling bodyweight and body fat levels. Similarly related, such administration can also be used for the purpose of enhancing creatine transport into excitable tissues such as skeletal muscle. The material can be administered as extracts of cinnamon and can be administered in a variety of ways including capsules, tablets, powdered beverages, bars, gels or drinks.

Abstract: The present invention relates to compositions and comestibles that include a non-aldehyde cinnamon flavor composition. The composition includes cinnamic aldehyde ethylene glycol acetal, and at least one non-aldehyde cinnamyl compound. In a preferred embodiment, the flavor composition includes a high intensity sweetener.
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and compositions for providing improved insulin-sensitivity and/or enhanced insulin-like action, which leads to improved glucose uptake and utilization. This invention also relates to methods and compositions for lowering LDL, lowering triglycerides, increasing HDL, and lowering high blood pressure in a subject. The methods comprise administering to a subject an effective amount of a water extract of cinnamon and an effective amount of a water extract of Radix Astragali.
Abstract: The invention concerns a composition for lowering the glycemic index comprising, or consisting of an alcoholic extract of cinnamon in an amount of at least 10% by weight compared to the total weight of the composition, and optionally a carrier, a food composition comprising a composition for lowering the glycemic index in an amount ranging from 0.1% to 5% by weight compared to the total weight of the food composition, the use of a composition for lowering the glycemic index or of a food composition as a glycemic index lowering agent.
Abstract: A new plant variety of the Zingerberacae family resulting from a discovery of a mutant attached to a stool (mat) of lesser galangal (Alpinia officanarum) in a cultivated field and subsequently asexually reproduced from stem cuttings. The most distinguishing characteristics of this new variety are the pungent cinnamon fragrance and flavor of its leaves (tea) and its physical differences with the parent plant. The new variety has valuable commercial potential and excellent post harvest prospects.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process of disinfecting a hard-surface with a composition comprising cinnamon oil and/or an active thereof whereby disinfecting benefits are provided.
Abstract: An anhydrous fat-based discrete flavoring additive is provided for incorporation into baked goods and flour confections. The discrete flavoring additive product comprises from substantially 0% to 2% by weight of moisture, from about 5% to about 15% by weight of finely ground cinnamon or other flavoring, from about 25% to about 35% by weight of a bakery-compatible oil that is substantially liquid at about 35.degree. C. to about 40.degree. C., with the balance being granulated sugar. The bakery-compatible oil is selected from the group consisting of vegetable oils and liquid butter fats, and mixtures thereof, which exhibit a solid fat index curve characteristic which is substantially that of butter fat. The bakery-compatible oil or fat system has finely ground cinnamon or other flavoring in suspension, is mixed with granulated sugar, and is then solidified at about 6.degree. C. to about 12.degree. C. The product, when solidified, will remain substantially solidified at temperatures below about 35.degree. C.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for selective extraction of bioactive and bioavailable cinnamon polyphenols and procyanidin oligomers of the type A and type B, of more than 90% purity as gallic acid equivalent which comprises the steps of removing the organic solvent from the extract to produce the free flowing oleoresin and drying of the residue under optimized conditions to produce a polyphenol and procyanidin Type A & B polymer rich solid which on subsequent extraction with water or with mixture of water and acetone or water and lower alcohol and further evaporation to a solid content of not more than 6% and subsequent chromatographic separation to obtain fractions containing procyanidin type A and B polymers free of coumarins and cinnamaldehyde. The present invention also relates to stable composition comprising cinnamon polyphenol rich powder for delivering maximum bioactivity upon oral administration.
