Abstract: A method for quarantining a node from other nodes in a network is described. A node is scanned to obtain a health posture of the node by determining if the node is compliant with one or more requirements. A current policy in accordance with the obtained health posture of the node is obtained. A previous policy is removed. • Patent number: 8077929
Abstract: A fingerprint reader is described. The fingerprint reader includes an illumination source that produces light and a camera. An optical window is also part of the reader. The window is positioned so that light from the illumination source passes through the optical window and then is reflected to the camera for imaging a person's fingerprint. A filter may be positioned on or proximate to the optical window. The filter prevents ambient light from reaching the camera. In some situations, the filter will be a dielectric mirror, a dielectric filter, a holographic mirror, a holographic filter, a dichroic mirror or a dichroic filter.

  • Patent number: 8078267
Abstract: Macular pigments are measured by spectrally selective lipofuscin detection. Light from a light source that emits light at a selected range of wavelengths that overlap the absorption band of macular carotenoids is directed onto macular tissue of an eye for which macular pigment levels are to be measured. Emitted light is then collected from the macular tissue. The collected light is filtered so that the collected light includes lipofuscin emission from the macular tissue at an excitation wavelength that lies outside the macular pigment absorption range and outside the excitation range of interfering fluorophores. The collected light is quantified at each of a plurality of locations in the macular tissue and the macular pigment levels in the macular tissue are determined from the differing lipofuscin emission intensities in the macula and peripheral retina.

  • Patent number: 8078290
Abstract: Systems and methods for controlling ambiance devices, or an embedded device, using a device style sheet are disclosed. Ambiance devices include devices used to control an environment in a room or area, such as a lighting device or a heating/cooling system. A device style sheet declaration is received, in one embodiment, at an ambiance device controller. The declaration comprises a scope selector that identifies a scope of a style to be applied, a property identifier that identifies a style property to be altered, and a property value that identifies a style property value to be applied. At least one ambiance device, within the scope identified by the scope selector, that is in electronic communication with the ambiance device controller is identified. A control signal for the ambiance device is formulated based on the property identifier and property value. The control signal is then transmitted to the ambiance device.

  • Patent number: 8074185
Abstract: A system and method for displaying, searching, manipulating and modifying of hierarchically linked genealogy data in a relational database on a computer system. A graphic representation of the data in the database is displayed on a computer display device. The system uses zooming, a common function used in computer systems, to show more or less information in the database in readable form. Using the computer pointer devices, the data in the database can be manipulated, added, deleted, or moved. The system allows for changing of the root node individual thereby giving a different view of the database, to zoom in or zoom out and save that view of the database for future reference. The system displays all relationships of the data in the hierarchical structure by use of various sizes and type of lines and positions in the structure and shows for example data further away from the root node individual as a progressively smaller graphical image.

Abstract: A method for designing a reference signal to be transmitted in a multiplexed cellular system is described. A first set of matrices that comprises a plurality of matrices is selected. An optimal partition of the first set of matrices is determined. A third matrix is formed. The third matrix represents a cross-correlation of a second matrix and each of the plurality of first matrices. A minimum corresponding to the first set of matrices is set. The second matrix is updated using the minimum corresponding to the first set of matrices. Each column of the second matrix is scaled by a first value.

  • Patent number: 8069254
Abstract: A method for communication period management in a communication system is disclosed. The method may involve determining a duration of a communication period that is scheduled between two electronic devices. The method may then involve determining whether the duration exceeds a threshold. If the duration does not exceed the threshold, the communication period may be unscheduled. Furthermore, the unscheduled time may be rescheduled with another communication period to another electronic device. The method may also involve determining whether a conflict exists between the communication period and any other communication periods that are scheduled to involve either of the electronic devices. If a conflict exists, the communication period may be unscheduled.

  • Patent number: 8060651
Abstract: In an exemplary embodiment, an RTP packetization component receives data partitions corresponding to a single slice of coded data from an H.264 encoder. The RTP packetization component evaluates a first set of conditions in order to determine whether to merge the data partitions into a single packet for transport over a network or to include the data partitions in separate packets for transport over the network. If it is determined that each condition within the first set of conditions is satisfied, the data partitions are merged into the single packet. If any condition within the first set of conditions is not satisfied, the data partitions are included in the separate packets.

  • Patent number: 8059819
Abstract: A method for distributing updates for a key is described. One or more update requests are received per unit of time. The number of received update requests per unit of time is multiplied by a maximum update period to estimate the number of active nodes in a group. The total number of received update requests per unit of time is determined. An amount representing additional update requests per unit of time is obtained from the difference between the total number of received updates and a determined maximum. A minimum update period for a group of nodes is determined.

  • Patent number: 8037643
Abstract: An apparatus and method for roof ridge construction are provided. Ridge risers are used to securely retain an attachment block above sheathing portions at an elevation sufficient to permit air venting through the ridge. The ridge risers have legs with one or more weakened regions (such as scores) that permit easy folding so that the legs can be attached to the sheathing and/or rafter portions. A set of attachment holes may be positioned below each of the weakened regions. The legs are joined to a cradle in which the attachment block rests. The attachment block is retained within the cradle via a mechanism such as fasteners, retention cleats, and retention assemblies with tabs designed to be driven into the attachment block. Roof covering elements, such as shingles, shakes, tiles, slate units, metal units, and synthetic ridge covering elements, are attached to the roofing block.

  • Patent number: 8041364
Abstract: A method for transmitting control information may include providing formatting rules that define a format for transmission of the control information to a base station via a control signaling channel. The control information may include a channel quality indicator (CQI), an acknowledgement/non-acknowledgement (ACK/NACK), a pre-coding matrix indicator (PMI), and rank information. The method may also include providing combination rules as part of the formatting rules. The combination rules may define how the CQI, the ACK/NACK, the PMI, and the rank information are combined for transmission on the control signaling channel. The method may also include transmitting the control information to the base station via the control signaling channel in accordance with the defined formatting rules.
