Abstract: A multi-stage particle separator provides a scroll and cylinder configuration in which the scroll establishes a swirling chamber and a first stage of separation and the cylinder establishes a continuing and second stage of separation.
Abstract: A heat storage apparatus for a conventional electrical baseboard-mounted heater requires no modification of the heater and provides means for supporting, storing heat within and circulating electrically-heated air through blocks of heat retaining material and an easy method of conversion to such form.
Abstract: A push-on type lumber stacker utilizes a pivoted conveyor for discharging the boards onto the stack and which starting from the outfeed conveyor level pivots upwardly in correspondence with the increasing height of the stack. The pivoted conveyor at its discharge end incorporates a plurality of remotely operable stick holders which hold the sticks as runners during formation of each layer and then release the sticks to serve as layer spacers. A plurality of rotary driven cams are also mounted on the discharge end of the conveyor to assist in pushing the boards onto the sticks.
Abstract: A mechanized method and apparatus for handling shackled live poultry is based on receiving the live poultry in shackles at the farm, conveying the shackles containing the live poultry to carts designed to receive and transport large numbers of the shackles, loading and transporting the carts from the farm to the processing plant and at the processing plant conveying the shackles from the carts to the processing conveyor and transferring the shackles to the processing conveyor for processing of the shackled live poultry while being conveyed on the processing conveyor.
Abstract: An apparatus for distributing materials into a blast furnace using no bell. The apparatus has a material distributing hopper disposed for a rocking motion around the central axis of said furnace. The rocking motion of the material distributing hopper is caused by an axial movement and rotation of a single drive shaft disposed outside the furnace.
Abstract: A magnetic particle separating device in which magnetic particles entrained or contained in coolants, lubricants or working fluids are separated and removed by the application of magnetic fields.
Abstract: A modified internal combustion engine of the carburetor type and method of modification enables low and medium BTU fuels in gaseous form to be utilized either as the sole fuel or in conjunction with other relatively high BTU fuels in liquid or gaseous form.
Abstract: A mechanized method for shackling and handling live poultry is based on mechanically gathering the live fowl on foot at the farm and conveying successive groups of the gathered fowl into shackles in which the live fowl are transported from the farm to the processing plant. At the processing plant, the shackles containing respective groups of fowl are adapted to be releasably supported on the processing conveyor for suspending the fowl during processing. The method for handling live poultry can also be employed with transport vehicles which deliver poultry to the processing plant loose and on foot within the confines of the transport vehicle. In this embodiment, the live poultry are mechanically grouped and conveyed directly from the transport vehicle to the shackles and the loaded shackles with the live fowl are then transferred directly to the plant processing conveyor for processing.
Abstract: A device for automatically wrapping a strip of metal to be rolled partly around upper and lower working rolls in the form of S or inverted S in a safeguarded and simplified manner.
Abstract: An armature commutator associated with a slotted core is constructed with a temporary tang structure which is employed during winding on a tang-type winding machine. After the core is wound and the commutator bars are connected, the temporary tang structure is removed resulting in a lead loop-type wound commutator.
Abstract: A brush for cleaning mud from anchor chain mounts on a boat hook so that the staff of the boat hook can serve as the handle of the brush during cleaning operations.
Abstract: A gas-liquid separator wherein a helical passageway is defined between an outer cylinder and an inner cylinder in such a way that a working fluid with entrained bubbles may be forced to flow tangentially into the helical passage and swirl therethrough. The entrained bubbles are separated from the liquid through centrifugal force produced by the swirling or vortical flow through the helical passageway and trapped or collected inside the inner cylinder, from which they are discharged to the exterior.
Abstract: A facility intended for use on a commercial basis, both for recreational and amusement purposes, offers a plurality of basketball-like courts designed to be played in sequence and with each court having a different challenging situation at least one of which utilizes a backboard structure having a plurality of rotatable goal barriers in the form of radially extending simulated hands rotatably driven between the goal and the player.
Abstract: A pedicure implement comprises an integral, plastic molded handle structure on the base of which are mounted upwardly angled fine and coarse abrading strips formed of thin stainless steel with the shape and mounting arrangement being designed for ease of use in pedicure-manicure operations.

Abstract: A spectrophotometric transillumination method and apparatus are directed to non-invasive, continuous, atraumatic, in vivo, in situ monitoring of metabolism in a body organ. In the described applications, measuring and reference wavelengths within the near infrared region, i.e., 700-1300 nm, are utilized for non-invasive, continuous, atraumatic, in situ, in vivo monitoring of oxidative metabolism by monitoring oxygen sufficiency in an internal organ, e.g., the brain or heart, of a human or animal body. Advantage is taken of the critical characteristic of cellular enzyme cytochrome a, a.sub.3 within the optical path and within the radiated portion of the selected organ for absorbing the selected measuring wavelength and for light of this measuring wavelength, as well as at least one reference wavelength within the same defined infrared region and at a low, non-hazardous level of intensity to travel through and be detectable at the end of a relatively long path, e.g.
Abstract: A device for melting butter provides a support member which is detachably secured to a pop-up type toaster and in turn detachably supports a butter melting ladle such that heat rising from the toaster can be utilized to melt the butter.

Abstract: A novelty lamp utilizes an old-fashioned hand-type water pump to support the lamp and shade and, in a preferred form, has a three-way ratchet switch arranged so that raising and lowering of the pump handle effects energizing and lighting of the lamp in one of three wattages.
Abstract: In abstract, a preferred embodiment of this invention is an improved roasted type peanut product and the process by which it is produced. The process includes precooking the peanuts in boiling water with a color additive ingredient, removing the peanuts and placing them in hot vegetable oil for a predetermined period of time, removing the same, coating with a light film of oil and salting the same. The product has a longer shelf life and is of a much more palatable taste than what would ordinarily be expected.
