Abstract: Concentration of solutions containing methanol and either dimethyl carbonate or methyl t-butyl ether may be effected by a composite membrane including a dibromobutane cross-linked poly(4-vinyl pyridine) bonded to a porous layer of polyacrylonitrile on a polyester backing.
Abstract: Membrane separation process is improved by use, as a support membrane, of a polyacrylonitrile membrane the surface of which has been oxygen-plasma treated whereby at least a portion of the surface has been oxidized to --COOH groups.
Abstract: Charge containing dewaxed oil and dewaxing solvent (typically methyl ethyl ketone and toluene) is treated to separate dewaxing solvent by use of a separating membrane barrier of a polyurea.
Abstract: A hydrocarbon conversion process to yield product of improved properties is effected in the presence of a zeolite characterized by increased Secondary Pore Volume, decreased Lattice Constant, Secondary Pore Mode, Secondary Pore Diameter, increased Secondary Pore Volume, Surface Silicon to Aluminum Atom Ratio, and Acid Site Density.

Abstract: Membrane separation process is improved by use, as a support membrane, of (i) a polyacrylonitrile membrane on which at least a portion of the surface --CN groups have been hydrolyzed --COOH groups or (ii) a membrane formed of polyacrylonitrile and polyacrylic acid.
Abstract: Charge compositions containing aqueous mixtures of organic oxygenates may be separated by pervaporation through a membrane assembly containing a porous ceramic support bearing as separating layer, a membrane of cured polyvinyl alcohol which has been cross-linked as with glutaraldehyde.

Abstract: A solution of isopropanol or ethanol is concentrated by pervaporation across a membrane of polyurea polymer or polyamide polymer prepared by interfacial polymerization of (i) an amine monomer containing at least two primary or secondary amine nitrogens and (ii) an isocyanate monomer containing at least two --NCO groups or a carbonyl chloride monomer containing at least two --COCl groups.
Abstract: Catalytic Cracking is effected by feeding thereto (i) a deasphalted vacuum resid together with (ii) a solvent treated virgin vacuum gas oil, the two being preferably mixed prior to solvent treating.
Abstract: Lubricating oils contain an overbased oil-soluble composition prepared by adding water to a heated reaction mixture containing an alkaline earth metal halide, an alkaline earth metal salt of an alkaryl sulfonate, a hydrocarbon diluent-solvent, a lower alkanol, and an alkali metal oxide, and thereafter passing carbon dioxide through the reaction mixture.

Abstract: Charge containing dewaxed oil and dewaxing solvent (typically methyl ethyl ketone and toluene) is treated to separate dewaxing solvent by use of a separating elastomer membrane barrier of a polysiloxane which has been cross-linked as with toluene diisocyanate, adipoyl dichloride, a dialkoxy silane, or a diacetoxy silane.
Abstract: A catalyst composition useful in the hydroprocessing of a sulfur- and metal-containing hydrocarbon feedstock comprises 1.0-5.0 weight percent of an oxide of nickel or cobalt and 10.0-25.0 weight percent of an oxide of molybdenum, all supported on a porous alumina support in such a manner that the molybdenum gradient of the catalyst has a value of less than 6.0 and 15-30% of the nickel or cobalt contained in the catalyst is in an acid extractable form. The catalyst is further characterized by having a total surface area of 150-210 m.sup.2 /g, a total pore volume of 0.50-0.75 cc/g, and a pore size distribution such that pores having diameters of less than 100A constitute less than 25.0%, pores having diameters of 100-160A constitute 70.0-85.0% and pores having diameters of greater than 250A constitute 1.0-15.0% of the total pore volume of the catalyst.
