  • Patent number: 6770635
Abstract: Adverse inflammatory reactions can be treated by administrating to an organism a composition having diglucosylamine as the active ingredient. The preferred compound is di-Beta-D-glucopyranosylamine. A simple method for making diglucosylamine in high purity is obtained by reacting glucose, a nitrogen containing base, and either methanol or ethanol to form the diglucosylamine and then recovering the diglucosylamine preferably with the use of charcoal. The preferred diglucosylamine, di-Beta-D-glucopyranosylamine, has extraordinary anti-inflammatory activity. It can be formulated with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to make pharmaceutical compositions which are effective in treating inflammations. This pharmaceutical composition can also be used to treat adverse inflammatory reactions that are the result of the disruptions of a dynamic network of cellular mechanisms in organisms.

  • Patent number: 6682483
Abstract: A method and device are provided for use in medical applications that permit affordable 3D imaging of blood flow using a low profile easily long-term unattended Doppler ultrasound monitoring in spite of motion of the patient or pad. The pad, and associated processor collects, Doppler processes ultrasound blood velocity data in a 3D region through the use of a planar phased array of piezoelectric elements. The invention locks onto, and tracks the points in 3D space that produce the locally maximum blood velocity signals. The integrated coordinates of points acquired by the accurate tracking process is used to form a 3D map of blood vessels, provide a display that can be used to select multiple points of interest for expanded data collection, for long-term continuous, and unattended blood flow monitoring.

  • Patent number: 6650359
Abstract: A system for acquiring and recording audio, visual and other information, relating to the condition or environment of a motor vehicle, and for storing the information at the vehicle for playback and analysis. The system is activated by the “on” status of the engine, or by the “alert” status of an alarm system if present. A camera may be used to acquire visual data, and a microphone may be used to acquire audio data. Other types of data—e.g., speed; date and time; or confirmation of braking—can likewise be acquired by conventional sensing devices. Acquired visual, audio and other data may be recorded in a solid-state device, such as a flash card or F-RAM. Data is continuously and sequentially over-written until the system is deactivated. Playback may be accomplished through a computer or television set.

  • Patent number: 6524253
Abstract: A thinned array of ultrasound transducers includes plural transmitters configured so that each transmitter insonates one segment of a volume at a time and an array of receivers electronically aimed at and dynamically focused upon subsegments of the insonated segment. The spacing between receivers is greater than one-half the transmitted wavelength. Echoes are received in a pattern that is aligned with the insonates segment so that receiver grating lobes nearest the echoes coincide with first transmitter nulls, minimizing the deleterious effects of grating lobes.

  • Patent number: 4950162
Abstract: A prefabricated bridge framework for producing tooth-replacement bridges consists of a support bar to bridge over a gap between teeth and connecting elements for placing the support bar on bridge pillars. The bridge framework as a whole is made of a dental alloy and is capable of being adjusted automatically to the length of a gap between teeth by changing the length of the support bar. Reinforcing ribs are provided on the bottom of the support bar. This bridge framework makes superfluous the manual construction of a wax model of a framework and the subsequent casting in metal that have been required up to now. This bridge framework is always made the same qualitatively, and guarantees that the production of tooth-replacement bridges will be considerably simpler and quicker.
