Abstract: A housing in which to receive a plurality of cigarettes and defining an outlet opening through which cigarettes may be successively discharged from the interior of the housing. Flush closing door structure is supported from the housing and shiftable between a flush closed position closing the opening and an open position. The housing defines coin slots for receiving coins therein and in which coins may be temporarily supported in predetermined position. Also, coin displacement structure is provided within the housing for shifting between inactive and active positions and is manually shiftable between the active and inactive positions thereof from the exterior of the housing. The door includes abutment structure engageable by coins upon displacement of the coins by the coin displacement structure during its movement from the inactive position to the active position thereof, to shift the door from the flush closed position thereof toward the open position thereof.

Abstract: Fresh processed poultry suspended by double leg hooks from conveyor mounted carriers are dropped onto an inclined guide surface of a bagging device having a stack of flexible film bags positioned to receive the dropped birds. Each bird is suspended from its carrier by a hook that pivots downwardly when released, resulting in free fall to an angular impact position substantially matching the incline of the guide surface along which the bird descends into an opened bag.

Abstract: A folding door or other closure comprising a plurality of panels of extruded material each having a male hinge element along one edge thereof and a female hinge element along the other edge thereof with each panel being of unitary, one-piece construction. The hinge elements are so constructed that interconnection and separation of the panels is attained by longitudinal sliding movement of the male and female hinge elements in relation to each other. A locking means is provided in the form of a projecting means associated with one of the hinge elements which engages with recess means associated with the other hinge element to preclude relative longitudinal movement between adjacent panels while permitting relative pivotal movement between adjacent panels.

Abstract: A pontic having a core constructed from a ceramic material embedded in a metal mass at least a portion of which is itself covered by a layer of porcelain. One or more pins are initially inserted into the core for facilitating placement of the core subsequent to waxing of same into a pattern in the cavity of a mold while the pattern is invested and the metal mass subsequently cast within the investment. The porcelain covering layer can be added to the casting in a conventional manner once the casting has been removed from the mold and cleaned in an appropriate manner.

Abstract: An upright adjustable rail mounting assembly for adjustably attaching horizontally mounting rails to a pair of slotted uprights by use of an adjustable locking bracket. The rail flanges facilitate mounting of a container assembly provided with means for engagement with the rails. The bracket and rail mounting assembly permit fractional adjustment vertically, and the locking bracket is removable for compact shipping. An alternative locking bracket has a bend to prevent angular disorientation of the bracket with respect to the mounting rail.

Abstract: The vertical posts, legs or columns of stationary structures are formed from chain-like link sections that are rigidly interconnected to provide the requisite compressive column strength. Horizontal elements are interconnected at selected heights to the vertical columns and may include rigid chain-like sections similar in construction to the vertical columns.

Abstract: A needle positioning attachment connectable to the main drive shaft of a sewing machine in place of a pulley and handwheel assembly conventionally found on blind stitch and similar machines includes a resilient assembly for accumulating energy from rotation of the main drive shaft of the machine so as to use this accumulated energy for actuation of the needle positioning attachment when the main drive shaft ceases rotation. In this manner, the needle of the sewing machine will be positioned as desired for starting a new sewing operation each time the machine is deactuated.

Abstract: A device for axially crushing a can is disclosed. The device is hand operated and characterized by a mechanical linkage which increases the mechanical advantage or leverage applied to the can undergoing crushing, giving an ultimate result of compression of recyclable cans, particularly aluminum cans, to a small fraction of their original size. Also disclosed is a method of operation of the device.

Abstract: A device to be attached to drills, particularly power drills, for indicating the angular relation of the rotational axis of the drill to a surface being drilled and permitting the drill operator to guide the drill in accurately pointing the axis of the drill bit at any angle up to about 45.degree. out of square, or plumb to about 45.degree. out of plumb, or any combination thereof. Furthermore, the device can be utilized as an angle drilling gauge independently of its attachment to a drill in order to determine the angle between two planar surfaces joined at an angle from square to about 45.degree. right or 45.degree. left out of square.

Abstract: The device consists of two longitudinally extending side frame members connected at one end to a diking plate and at the other end to a transverse frame member which in turn is connected to a hitch which allows the frame and diking plate pivotal movement in both a vertical and a horizontal plane. Connected medially of each side frame member is a pillow block bearing which bearings support, on a single axis, a pair of spoked wheels. Each of the spoked wheels has one spoke of greater length than the remaining spokes which longer spokes extend outward in a common radial plane. As the spoked wheels turn, the diking plate is lifted periodically from the ground to provide a damming action in a furrow in the earth.

Abstract: A slag removal system for wet bottom boilers is provided wherein tandem tap holes are provided. The first hole comprises a vertical hole to be selectively closed by damming and the second hole comprises a horizontal hole and is dammed or sealed with sand in order to seal against the passage of boiler gases through the tap holes. In addition, multi-compartment slag tanks are provided and each slag tank may be selectively placed into and taken out of service, as desired. Further, an alternate type of slag tank is disclosed wherein a suitable cooled bed of slag particles is provided on a turntable and the tapped molten slag is deposited onto a peripheral portion of the turntable as the latter is rotated and a breaker is provided for breaking up the resultant ribbon of solidified slag at predetermined intervals.

Abstract: A built-in solar combination heating and cooling system for a building, particularly a residence, having a sub-floor below grade, walls, one or more ceilings, and a peaked roof comprises a first heat exchange means and a second heat exchange means, where the first heat exchange means absorbs heat from the southerly surface of the roof, and the second heat exchange means exchanges heat from or to the walls, floors, and ceiling of the building, as well as the region below grade surrounding the building. During the heating mode of operation, the path of air is from the outside into the roof-mounted first heat exchange means, then into the second heat exchange means, and into the building through a blower mounted below grade inside the building.

Abstract: A pair of first and second coextensive generally semicylindrical nut halves are provided and include exterior surface portions engageable by hand or tools to facilitate turning of the halves, together, as a unitary nut. The nut halves include coextensively threaded inner surfaces and abuttingly and releasably interlocking structure on their adjacent arc ends whereby the nut halves are secured together as a unitary structure for utilization as a threaded coupling nut.

Abstract: An imperforate container having an open top and including a cover is provided with an attachment mechanism for hanging on or in the vicinity of an outdoor barbecue. The container is adapted to contain a cleaning solution and will receive the removable grill or rack of the barbecue for soaking it clean between periods of use.

Abstract: A surgical implement is disclosed for performing in combination a retracting and illuminating function within body cavities formed during surgery. The retraction function is performed by a blade, which can be segmented for flexible bending, mounted generally at right angles to a support shaft manipulatable by a handle. Miniature lamps present in the blade and powered by small batteries located in the handle perform the illumination function within the body cavity around which the retraction function is simultaneously performed.

Abstract: A device is disclosed for convenient dispensing of fish eggs for use as bait in sport fishing. The device offers convenience in individual dispensing of eggs in an outdoor environment as well as protection for the eggs in retaining oils necessary to keep the eggs fresh and untouched by human hands as an individual egg is raised into position for insertion of a fishing hook.

Abstract: A vise is provided to assist in performing various watch repair and maintenance functions and includes a pair of jaws having generally planar and parallel opposing surfaces. The jaws are supported for guided relative movement toward and away from each other along a path disposed substantially normal to the opposing surfaces thereof. The jaws include cylindrical recesses opening outwardly of the opposing surfaces and disposed substantially normal thereto. The opposing jaw surfaces have thin panel members secured thereover constructed of shape retentive, stiff but slightly deformably resilient material and the panel members include circular openings therein substantially coaxial with and of the same diameter as the recesses. A thin circular watch case may be clamped between the jaws with four spaced surface areas of diametrically opposite portions of the watch case engaged by correspondingly spaced portions of marginal portions of the stiff panel members defining the aforementioned circular openings.

Abstract: A housing defining a generally cylindrical chamber is provided and the chamber is closed at one end. Inlet structure is provided for admitting fluid flow suspended materials into the chamber intermediate the opposite ends thereof and in a direction extending generally tangentially of the chamber. A tubular vortex finder opens centrally into the housing through the closed end thereof and a generally frusto-conical closure wall is provided at the other end of the chamber and opens toward the closed end thereof. The apex of the closure wall defines a restricted outlet and the tubular vortex finder includes an open inlet end opening toward the outlet and spaced intermediate the closure wall and the inlet structure. The inlet structure is fixed in position longitudinally of the housing, but the frusto-conical closure wall and vortex finder are supported relative to the housing for independent adjustment relative thereto in a direction extending longitudinally of the chamber.

Abstract: A horizontally elongated hollow body constructed of heat resistant material is provided and closed at its opposite ends by means of upstanding end wall structures. The body includes a flue gas outlet centrally intermediate the opposite ends thereof and one end wall structure includes an access opening with which a closure door, shiftably supported from the corresponding end of the body, is operatively associated for movement between an open and closed positions relative to the access opening. The door and the opposite end wall structure of the body each include combustion air inlet structure for admitting combustion air into the interior of the body and structure is provided for variably throttling the inflow of combustion air. The flue outlet opens outwardly of an upper portion of one longitudinal side of the body and the other longitudinal side of the body defines a viewing aperture therein closed by a transparent heat resistant panel.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for separating and collecting viable female spermatozoa (XX chromosome) and male spermatozoa (XY chromosome). The process utilizes apparatus comprising two sterilized columns of glass, plastic or other suitable material, a ball valve, a vacuum pump, a mercury manometer, and connecting tubes of glass, plastic or other suitable materials. The system is assembled with rubber percussion gaskets or other suitable connecting materials, to prevent the introduction of extraneous air into the closed system, and a burp bottle to preclude unwanted introduction of fluids into parts of the system under vacuum. The column containing the semen sample may be of variable volume, to accommodate semen samples of varying volume and concentration.The process may be modified by introducing into the system a direct and continuous electrical current flow, or by creating within the separating columns an electrophoretic field.
