  • Patent number: 7554499
Abstract: A radome uses traditional continuous heating wires mixed with detuned dipoles between heating wires and can be placed at any chosen distance from an array antenna or FSS. The continuous heating wires add a reactive component to the incident field phase, which is effectively cancelled out by the detuned dipoles which provide a capacitive component. The orthogonal components of the incident field are transmitted with very small losses over a wide number of scan angles. These heating and detuned dipoles can be printed on low loss dielectric materials. In addition, the printed elements of this radome can be scaled to operate over a chosen frequency band.

  • Patent number: 7551814
Abstract: An apparatus for employing ambient light collected from an external light source to detect a user's fingers that are gripping at least a relatively transparent portion of a case. The ends of a plurality of waveguides are coupled at relatively unequal or equidistant positions to the interior surface of the transparent portion, where they are arranged to collect light from the exterior light source if the user's finger(s) are not gripping the mobile device at that position. If the light collected by the wave guides is blocked by one or more of the user's fingers, a profile can be determined for the placement, orientation (left handed or right handed), and size of the user's fingers and hand gripping the mobile device. Also, interactions of the fingers with the mobile device can be detected, such as lifting away, pressing, or sliding one or more fingers at the transparent portion for a short or relatively lengthy period of time.

  • Patent number: 7546275
Abstract: A method for deposit of an electronic payment order by a first intermediary processor among a plurality of intermediary processors linked by a communication network. A routing message is received at the first intermediary processor, the message identifying one or more deposit target processors accessible through the network via the second intermediary processor and providing a respective secure identifier for each of the accessible deposit target processors. When the first intermediary processor receives the electronic payment order drawn on a specified one of the deposit target processors conveyed over the network from a depositing processor, it clears the payment order intermediary processor by checking the payment order against the secure identifier of the specified deposit target processor provided in the routing message.

  • Patent number: 7546026
Abstract: Quantities of motion between images of an electronic camera are calculated and used to adjust the exposure time and one or more other exposure parameters used to capture an image in order to improve the quality of the image. Motion blur caused by movement of the camera or by movement of an object within the scene being photographed is reduced by selecting appropriate exposure parameters. Further, when there is little or no motion detected, the exposure parameters may be selected to improve the depth of field and reduce the noise in the captured image.

  • Patent number: 7541694
Abstract: A circuit (100) is provided that is connectable between input lines (150, 152, 154) and output lines (160, 162). The circuit is comprised of a primary battery (103) and a hold-up battery (101). The hold-up battery is connected in parallel with the primary battery. The circuit is further comprised of an RC circuit (180) connected in parallel with the primary battery and is isolated from the hold-up battery by unidirectional current valves (108, 110). A comparator is provided with a first input (130) coupled to the RC circuit and a second input (132) coupled to a voltage reference. A switching device (104) is provided that is controlled by an output of the comparator. The switching device connects the hold-up battery to output lines in a first state and disconnects the hold-up battery from output lines in a second state. The unidirectional current valves prevent reverse leakage current from the hold-up battery from charging a capacitor during a discharge period of the RC circuit.

  • Patent number: 7539361
Abstract: An optical fiber (100) utilized as a sensor for measuring a parameter of interest 122 such as temperature, strain, photonic energy intensity, electric field intensity and magnetic field intensity is provided. A first optical cladding layer (104) is disposed on an optically transmissive core (102) that includes one or more optical gratings (114-1). The optical grating(s) (114-1) modifies a propagation path of selected wavelengths of light propagating through the core (102). The optical grating(s) (114-1) also varies the index of refraction of the first optical cladding layer (104). The selected wavelengths of light are determined in part by the index of refraction of the core material 105 as dependent upon a parameter of interest 122 applied to the core material 105 and as varied by the optical grating(s) (114-1). One or more detectors (410, 430, 450, 455) are used for determining the properties of the reflected and/or transmitted light.
