  • Patent number: 7536108
Abstract: The present invention relates to an automatic dispersion compensating optical link system. Carrier suppressed RZ encoded optical signals generated using carrier suppressing means and binary NRZ code or partial response code, or carrier suppressed clock signals generated using carrier suppressing means and clock signals are transmitted on an optical transmission line. Two bands of the carrier suppressed RZ encoded optical signals or carrier suppressed clock signals transmitted on the optical transmission line are each divided into bands and are received. Phase information of the respective basebands is extracted from the binary NRZ code components or partial response code components or clock signals in each band and the relative phase difference thereof is detected. The chromatic dispersion value of the optical transmission line is then calculated from the relative phase difference.

  • Patent number: 7535554
Abstract: A target having a reflective part for a laser beam is located at the measuring object position of a bridge girder in such a way that the reflective part includes with respect to the displacement measuring direction and a laser rangefinder is located at the pier. A laser beam projected from the laser rangefinder along the longitudinal direction of the bridge girder impinges on the reflective part and the reflected light of the laser beam returned from the reflective part in the direction generally parallel with the incident direction is received by the laser rangefinder so as to detect variation in the distance from the laser rangefinder to the laser beam reflecting position of the reflective part. Displacement of the bridge girder in the displacement measuring direction is measured utilizing correlation between the detected variation and the displacement of the measuring object position in the displacement measuring direction.

  • Patent number: 7512986
Abstract: A system and a method for providing variable security mechanisms for securing digital content, in which a single security mechanism is not used for all content. Instead, at least one characteristic or feature of the security mechanism is varied between units, instances or categories of content. Therefore, even if unauthorized access is gained to a single unit of content, the overall integrity and security of the system for content distribution is not compromised. Preferably, security is provided through a general mechanism, which is then varied in order to provide variable, dissimilar security schemes for different types of content. By “type of content”, it is meant any of a single unit of content, a single instance of content or a single category of content. For example, for a category of content, the content may be characterized according to the identity of the content itself, such as the title of a movie for example, and/or according to the owner of a particular copy of the content.

  • Patent number: 7510766
Abstract: A magnetic composite for AC applications with improved magnetic properties (i.e. low hysteresis losses and low eddy current losses) is disclosed. The composite comprises a consolidation of magnetizable metallic microlamellar particles each having a top and bottom surfaces and opposite ends. The top and bottom surfaces are coated with a dielectric coating for increasing the resistivity of the composite and reducing eddy current losses. The dielectric coating is made of a refractory material and the ends of the lamellar particles are metallurgically bonded to each other to reduce hysteresis losses of the composite. A process for manufacturing the same is also disclosed. The composite is suitable for manufacturing devices for AC applications such as transformers, stator and rotor of motors, generators, alternators, field concentrators, chokes, relays, electromechanical actuators, synchroresolvers, etc.

  • Patent number: 7512155
Abstract: Digital data is transmitted in a block-based hyperframe that consists of N frames. Each frame carries multiplexed data from one or more user data channels and a control channel. Control channel information is unequally allocated among the N frames, the amount of information carried in each frame varying according to the frame's position in the hyperframe. All of the user data channels except one carry a predetermined number of transmission units in each frame. The excepted user data channel carries a calculated amount needed to round out the particular frame. Following multiplexing, a block encoder defines the frames and adds error detection or error correction information. The number of frames per hyperframe and the total number of transmission units for the control channel are available to a receiver, which can then demultiplex the hyperframe.
