  • Patent number: 6310846
Abstract: A recording conditions controlling method for an optical memory device of the present invention includes the steps of: a reproducing condition controlling step for projecting light on an optical recording medium on which information is recorded and measuring a reproducing signal read so as to control a recording condition optimum; and a recording condition controlling step for controlling a recording condition in accordance with the reproducing condition thus optimized. This prevents destruction of an optical disk by heat, which occurs when the heat capacity of the optical disk is small and/or when the environment temperature is high, thus realizing a stable control of recording light quantity.

  • Patent number: 6298018
Abstract: An optical disk is provided with a recording layer, and with an optical coupling layer on a light-incident side of the recording layer. An optical recording and reproducing device and method include an objective lens and a hemispherical lens, which converge a light beam from a light source and project the light beam onto the optical disk. The hemispherical lens is provided in close proximity to the optical coupling layer, in a position such that an interval therebetween is not more than the wavelength of the light produced by the light source. The light beam converged by the objective lens and the hemispherical lens is coupled with the optical coupling layer while substantially maintaining a direction of propagation in which it was propagating while inside the hemispherical lens.

  • Patent number: 6297875
Abstract: A polarizing plate and a double refracting plate, which are allowed to rotate around an optic axis, are provided to the light-exit side of a liquid crystal layer. The double refracting plate splits incident light into an ordinary ray which travels along a straight optic axis and an extraordinary ray which travels along a refracted optic axis, and supplies the same to a printing paper. The double refracting plate is laminated to the polarizing plate in such a manner that the splitting direction of the former matches with the polarizing plate of the latter, thereby allowing only the extraordinary ray to exit from the double refracting plate. By rotating the two plates together as one body by, for example, 90 degrees around the optic axis and exposing the printing paper each time, resolution attained without displacing the liquid crystal layer or printing paper with respect to the other is nearly as high as the one obtained by displacing the liquid crystal layer or printing paper.

  • Patent number: 6298024
Abstract: A controller instructs a spindle motor to start rotating, and instructs a servo control section to start a focus servo control. When a light beam crosses information tracks on an optical disc with a rotation of the optical disc, an amplitude indicating signal generating section detects changes in the amplitude of a readout signal output from an optical pickup. A disc type identifying section identifies types of optical discs having different track pitches of the information tracks in starting the rotation of each optical disc based on the peak value and bottom value or the amplitude of the readout signal. Consequently, the types of optical discs having different information recording densities, particularly different track pitches, can be identified at an early stage without waiting for reproduction of information recorded on each optical disc. It is therefore possible to shorten the time for starting an optical disc device, or prevent an increase in the starting time.

  • Patent number: 6298206
Abstract: It is an object of the invention that development quality is improved by increasing the amount of charge during the transportation of toner by a toner holding member and decreasing the amount of charge during development for rendering an electrostatic latent image visible. A one-component non-magnetic toner is supplied from a toner supplying unit to the toner holding member such that the toner is electrostatically attracted to adhere to the toner holding member with a large amount of charge. The charge of the toner under transportation is reduced by charge adjusting means such as a conductive roller supplied with a potential from a frictional charging member or a voltage source, whereby the amount of development or the amount of toner adhering to an electrostatic latent image is increased and development quality is improved.

  • Patent number: 6288992
Abstract: An optical reproducing device according to the present invention detects mean amplitude values of short marks and long marks, which are recorded marks for reproducing power control, by means of a short mark level detecting circuit and a long mark level detecting circuit. Then a differential amplifier compares a ratio between these two mean amplitude values with a standard value, and outputs the result of this comparison. Thereafter, a reproducing power control circuit controls reproducing power of a semiconductor laser such that the absolute value of this comparison result is reduced. Since mean values of the amplitude values of the short marks and long marks are detected, the detection results are very accurate, and the precision of control of reproducing power can be greatly improved.

  • Patent number: 6278202
Abstract: To reduce a power loss and elongate the service life of a battery in a power supply circuit for a widely variable power-consuming load. In a device with a dry battery and a rechargeable battery, the rechargeable battery supplies the power while its output voltage is higher than a 3.4V-voltage increased voltage by a voltage increasing circuit. When the output voltage of the rechargeable battery decreases lower than 3.4V, the voltage increasing circuit operates and the dry battery works as a power supply. The power voltage increased by the voltage increasing circuit through a choke coil is fed to respective voltage decreasing circuits. The current is also fed to recharge the rechargeable battery when the output voltage of the choke coil is higher than the output voltage of the rechargeable battery. When the load is increased by the operation of a pickup, the power stored in the rechargeable battery together with the power from the dry battery after increased to 3.
