  • Patent number: 6650027
Abstract: An emergency power supply includes a rectifier component for stepping down and rectifies the input AC signals from the primary power line, wherein the rectifier is coupled to a voltage regulator to allow for battery charging, and the stabilizer is further connected through a switch to a system control circuit which controls the power source. The output of the stabilizer is also connected to a DC to DC converter, such that the power source from the primary power line can also supply loads in normal power conditions. In case of power outage, the microprocessor enables the switching element thereby allowing the storage battery to be connected, so that the output current is stepped up and passed to the DC to DC converter for generating load current. The emergency procedures can thus be initiated before the primary power line goes down, avoiding disruption in system operation.

  • Patent number: 6630456
Abstract: The present invention provides a mechanism for studies of apoptosis in aquatic organisms by infecting the aquatic organisms with aquabirnavirus, especially infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV). The infection of IPNV in an aquatic cell such as a Chinook salmon embryo cell (CHSE-214) converts the cell into an apoptotic cell. The present invention also provides a method for monitoring the morphological changes during apoptosis by cloning EGFP (a variant type of GFP) to an aquatic cell and monitoring the fluorescence using microscopic techniques. The intensity of the fluorescence reflects the expression of EGEP in cells. Finally, the present invention provides means for inducing or preventing/rescuing apoptosis in a host, which include aquatic and vertebrate. The apoptosis can be induced by IPNV infection or VP3 transfection.that VP3 is a 32 kDa protein derived from IPNV segment A. The apoptosis can be prevented or rescued by an antisense VP3 RNA or a zfMcl-1a protein.

  • Patent number: 6621242
Abstract: A motor speed control having synchronous PWM signals has a synchronous phase detecting unit and a PWM control unit. The synchronous phase detecting unit detects the phase variation of a Hall signal, which represents the phase change of the motor, and outputs a digital value to the PWM control unit. The PWM control unit compares the digital value with a speed control command so as to obtain a PWM signal, wherein the PWM signal is synchronized with the Hall signal. Since the PWM signal is synchronized with the Hall signal, the motor is operated smoothly even in the low speed rotation, and audible noises are effectively reduced.
