  • Patent number: 6381703
Abstract: A system and method for affecting the behavior of the transmitting UART that, in turn, results in an internal state change in the receiving UART. The present invention, upon detecting a PPP packet, flow controls the line, causing the transmitting UART to force a marking condition (that is, all ones) or idle state. This idle state enables the receiving UART to exit sampling mode and receive the remaining incoming data within the PPP packet in byte mode. The receiving UART, when operating in byte mode, automatically accounts for slew.

  • Patent number: 6377556
Abstract: A method, within a wireless communication system, and a wireless MT2 device which provide for the resynchronization of a PPP link on each one of a Um and Rm interface without affecting the other of the Um and Rm interface. When a handoff is performed, such that the communications of the mobile MT2 device is handed off to a new BS/MSC, the Um interface will undergo PPP configuration renegotiation without causing the Rm interface also to undergo PPP configuration renegotiation. Similarly, when the Rm interface undergoes PPP configuration renegotiation, the Um interface will not undergo PPP configuration renegotiation.

  • Patent number: 6366632
Abstract: A system and method for accounting for clock slew during autobauding. Upon identifying an AT command and the baud rate of the incoming data stream, the present invention accounts for clock slew in one of two ways, depending upon the baud rate of the incoming data stream. If the baud rate of the incoming data stream is 9600 or greater, the present invention accounts for slew by utilizing a feature associated with ASCII characters and RS-232 protocol, that is the stop bit being nicely framed on both sides by spaces. This feature is used to determine whether negative or positive clock slew exists. If negative clock slew exists and it is determined that negative clock slew falls within a certain threshold, a sample is skipped. If positive clock slew exists and falls within a certain threshold, positive clock slew is converted to negative clock slew by taking an extra sample.

  • Patent number: 6363260
Abstract: A method to enhance performance of a dual-mode or dual-band mobile phone includes, after the phone has initially connected to a CDMA wireless network, monitoring a level of total power received by the phone. This power level is compared to a preset threshold level. If the power level remains below the threshold level for over two seconds, the dual-mode or dual-band phone switches to an AMPS or other network retrieved from the preferred roaming list that is stored in the phone. If the power level is above the threshold, the phone moves into the idle state. Once in the idle state, both the pilot strength and Received Signal Strength Indication are monitored. If both of these levels are below respective thresholds for over eight seconds, the phone switches to another network stored in the preferred roaming list. If the mobile phone is not a dual-mode or dual-band phone, the mobile phone can perform similar measurements and switch between service provider systems compatible with the mobile phone.

  • Patent number: 6157679
Abstract: A method is provided of adding an encryption element to the QAM modulation/demodulation process. This is achieved by first forming a sequence of transmit QAM constellation symbols on the basis of the information signal to be modulated/demodulated, which signal is comprised by a corresponding sequence of transmit information values. Each QAM transmit constellation symbol is based on a fixed transmit constellation in a complex plane and is characterized by a real part and an imaginary part, each part including a sign, the sign consisting of plus or minus. On the basis of a fixed algorithm, during signal modulation, one or more of the transmit constellation symbols are altered by, for example, conjugating the sign value of either the real or imaginary parts thereof to form a disguised or encrypted set of symbols.

  • Patent number: 6067457
Abstract: A priority scheme for a system that supports dispatch and telephone services whereby more important calls, of the type spanning across the same or multiple cells, are dynamically assigned higher positions in the queue for the next voice channel to become available. Less important calls are readily identified and can have their voice channel taken away, i.e., dropped, to provide a channel for an emergency call. The priority scheme also makes it possible to for the priority of call in progress to dynamically change, e.g., increasing priority over time so that its voice channel can't be taken away by a higher priority call, or decreasing priority of call as a function of time in progress.

  • Patent number: 5966443
Abstract: A key variable correction scheme allows errored encryption key material in mobile and portables radios to be quickly identified and corrected. The errored encryption material can be corrected automatically by a key management controller, once detected. Consequently, a mismatch problem can be diagnosed and resolved in a manner which is automatic, therefore quick and efficient, and in a way which overcomes the difficulty which users have in identifying by themselves a mismatch condition since the result is often only silence out of their respective radio speaker. Once the mismatch is corrected by the reassignment of correct keys, the user is free to join the radio call already in progress.

  • Patent number: 5933780
Abstract: A digital recorder detrunks calls for logging prior to recording same. This allows retrieving what a radio monitoring a particular talkgroup hears and combines that with the best features of a detrunk-on-playback system, namely the ability to isolate those portions of all the system communications which are desired or specifically excluded. The fluid associations between talkgroup IDs, multigroup IDs, and supergroup IDs are used by the recorder to search for the audio which the user wishes to hear. The retrieval of audio heard by a particular, individual radio is made possible through the incorporation of radio affiliation information into a searchable database. A specified individual radio ID may be tracked with respect to its talkgroup affiliations, during a specified time interval, by an appropriate search algorithm. Those affiliations can, in turn, be further used with the talkgroup/supergroup/multigroup search algorithm to retrieve the audio heard by an individual radio user.
