  • Patent number: 4484084
Abstract: A switching circuit in a power supply for switching between a main power source and a standby power source includes gating device operated at the time failure of the main power source occurs to disable the operation of a plurality of MOSFETs which are switched by high frequency clock signals to couple the main power source to a load. When the main power source returns, the gating device switches the MOSFETs in synchronization with the power signals supplied by the main power source. The circuit includes a transformer operated by the high frequency clock signals to switch the MOSFETs, enabling the transfer of the power signals from the main source to the standby source to occur at the time the main power source fails.

  • Patent number: 4484068
Abstract: There is disclosed a bar code processing system in which a plurality of vertically aligned sensing devices are positioned adjacent a moving document on which is located a plurality of dot matrix printed coded bars. Each of the sensing devices is positioned so as to sense one of the matrix dots which form the coded bar and output an analog signal whose signal level varies directly in accordance with the ink intensity of the sensed dot. Signals are then amplified, filtered and converted to digital signals which are then examined. If a predetermined number of dots in the bar have been sensed and of the dots sense, no more than two dots are found to be separated by more than one blank space where a dot would normally be located, a signal is generated indicating that a valid bar has been sensed. These signals are then used in decoding the bars sensed.

  • Patent number: 4477925
Abstract: The present invention relates to a speech recognition system and the method therefor, which analyzes a sampled clipped speech signal for identifying a spoken utterance. An input signal representative of the spoken utterance is passed through a clipper to generate a clipped input signal. A sampler generates a plurality of discrete binary values, each discrete binary value corresponding to a sample value of the clipped input signal. A processor then analyzes the plurality of sample values thereby identifying the spoken utterance. Analysis includes determining linear prediction coefficients of the autocorrelation function of speech utterences.

  • Patent number: 4473941
Abstract: A process for forming zener diodes from an IC structure having coextensive layers of gate silicon dioxide and polycrystalline silicon on a substrate and self-aligned with a diffused region in the substrate. A differential oxidation of the polycrystalline silicon and substrate silicon is followed in turn by a silicon dioxide etch to expose only the polycrystalline silicon layer. Thereafter, the exposed polycrystalline silicon is etched with an etchant that does not materially etch silicon dioxide. The exposed substrate is then subjected to an ion implantation, performed with an energy sufficient to locate the peak impurity concentration below the substrate surface, and a dose sufficient to moderately dope the area originally under the polycrystalline silicon electrode while reducing the effective concentration of the opposite impurity type dopant in the diffused region of the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4468809
Abstract: A multiple font optical character recognition reader system for capturing character patterns by pixel, quantizing and sequencing the data representing multiple pixels, enhancing the character patterns represented by the data, locating characters within the enhanced data, and recognizing the characters. Data representing individual pixels is quantized into white, gray and black levels. During enhancement, gray pixel data is selectively changed to black or white while some black is changed to white, both operations depending on the white, gray or black levels in adjacent pixels. The enhanced data is scanned for a multiplicity of simultaneous conditions which define when a matrix of the data includes a character pattern which is optimally positioned within the matrix. The data matrix containing the character pattern is then sequentially compared to sets of data individually representing templates of potential characters.

  • Patent number: 4464824
Abstract: A process for fabricating an electrical contact which connects an epitaxial layer, well, or substrate with a metallic interconnect layer during the course of creating active integrated circuit devices in a semiconductor wafer. The process forms self-aligned contacts by establishing the contact locations coincident with the definition of the active regions, at an early step in the wafer fabrication process. Thereafter, a gate silicon dioxide layer and a polycrystalline silicon electrode layer are combined to mask the contact region surface from intermediate process environments, e.g., ion implantation and POCl.sub.3 diffusion operations. As the wafer fabrication process approaches conclusion, the contact region is opened by a selective etch of the polycrystalline silicon and the silicon dioxide layers, an enhancement implant into the surface of the contact region, a hydrogen environment annealing operation, and a deposition and patterning of the metallic interconnect layer.

  • Patent number: 4466058
Abstract: A system for controlling the flow of data over a common bus between a plurality of processing units is disclosed which preferably includes a MOS/LSI circuit controller chip associated with each processing unit for awarding priority of access to the common bus when two or more processing units attempt to simultaneously gain access to the common bus. A contention circuit located in each controller chip is responsive to the sensing of each bit in the address of its associated processing unit, and generates a plurality of transitions on the common bus during the time a binary one bit is sensed in the address and listens for the presence of any transition on the common bus during the time a binary zero is sensed in the address. Access to the common bus is lost when transitions are detected on the bus during the time a binary zero bit is sensed and acquired when no transitions have been detected at the completion of the sensing of the address of the requesting processing unit.

  • Patent number: 4462037
Abstract: The level of ink in a reciprocating reservoir is automatically controlled for both printing and non-printing conditions. The reciprocating motion creates forces to cause the ink to move back and forth between the reciprocating reservoir and a main reservoir and a pump maintains the ink at one level during printing. The pump controls the direction and flow of ink moving between the reservoirs by continuous operation during printing and the ink is allowed to rise in the first-mentioned reservoir during non-printing.

  • Patent number: 4457015
Abstract: A system for processing data used by a recognition system in recognizing an unknown character. A multi-channel read member generates a plurality of parallel rows of data bits which taken together form an image of the character to be recognized. In order to align the rows of data in their proper relationship, each row of data bits is examined to determine if the row contains data representing a feature characteristic of the unknown character or a clear channel. The top row of the character is selected as the first row of data bits representing a feature characteristic of the character which follows the largest number of consecutive clear channel rows. The top two rows of the character are then compared. The row having the greatest number of feature characteristic data bits is selected as the top row of the character. Signals identifying the top row of the character are generated for us by a recognition apparatus in recognizing the unknown character from the rows of data bits generated.

  • Patent number: 4455596
Abstract: A high-frequency, power converter circuit including a transformer for transforming electrical current and having a primary; at least one secondary winding of a first type, and at least one secondary winding of a second type. The secondary windings of said first and second types are in flux-coupling relationship with the primary. A source of electric current is operatively coupled to the primary to flow therethrough. An electronic switch is used for periodically interrupting the flow of current through the primary to provide "on" and "off" periods therefor. A flyback circuit is operatively associated with the secondary winding of the first type to provide a first output from the power converter circuit. A secondary circuit includes a first diode and an inductor being series connected with the secondary winding of the second type, the diode being positioned in the secondary circuit to enable the inductor to store energy from the transformer during an on period.
