Patent number: 6773450Abstract: A suture anchor for approximating tissue to bone comprises an anchor member for securing the suture anchor to the bone and a plurality of sutures mounted to the anchor member so that the sutures extend outwardly from the anchor member. Each suture has a sharp pointed end for penetrating the tissue and a plurality of barbs which permit movement of the sutures through the tissue in one direction of movement of the pointed end and prevent movement of the sutures relative to the tissue in the opposite direction. The ends of the sutures are inserted and pushed through the tissue along a curvilinear path in a direction away from the bone. The sutures are drawn from exit points longitudinally spaced from the points of insertion and reinserted and advanced along a curvilinear path in the direction away from the bone. The sutures are drawn through the tissue while approximating the tissue adjacent the bone along the suture and leaving a length of the sutures in the tissue.Type: GrantFiled: August 9, 2002Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: Quill Medical, Inc.Inventors: Jeffrey C. Patent number: 6527934Abstract: A process is provided for electrolytically depositing copper onto a workpiece. The process includes the steps of providing a copper generation vessel and generating a copper plating solution from solid-state copper in the vessel. The plating solution so generated is continuously circulated between the copper generation vessel and a plating vessel. An insoluble, dimensionally stable anode is provided in the plating vessel in contact with the plating solution. The workpiece is immersed in the plating solution in the plating vessel in close proximity to the anode. Electric current is passed through the plating solution between the anode and the workpiece to be plated so that the workpiece acts as a cathode in an electrolytic circuit and copper ions are electrolytically deposited on the workpiece. The process ensures that the workpiece is positioned relative to the anode so that all surfaces to be plated are exposed to the anode surface.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2000Date of Patent: March 4, 2003Assignee: Galvan Industries, Inc.Inventor: Michael A. Patent number: 5186223Abstract: An improved filling system for containers of mixtures of liquid and solid material where the liquid/solid ratio is critical is disclosed. A prior art problem was that sticky solid material would adhere to the receptacle or bucket in which it was delivered to a filling chute or funnel and it would also stick to the funnel. This problem is solved by putting the sticky solid in the buckets and by using the liquid to flush the funnel and by using an air jet to remove any remaining particles from the buckets which are upturned over the funnel. Alternately, a part of the liquid may be placed in the delivery bucket and when it is tilted or turned upside down to fill the container the remaining part of the liquid is used to rinse the receptacle. The filling system is especially useful for soups containing noodles or other pasta products.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 1992Date of Patent: February 16, 1993Assignee: W. R. Patent number: 5159800Abstract: Apparatus for the opening of a bag 1 is provided with a clamp 2 having one fixed jaw 3 which applies a high pressure to a limited area of the bag by means of a pip 4, and a movable jaw 5 which applies a lower pressure to the bag 1 over a larger area through a spring-loaded block 6 and a rubber pad 7, and is movable by means of a pneumatic cylinder 8. The high pressure applied by the pip 4 is sufficient to prevent any relative movement of the bag panels. The lower pressure exerted by the rubber pad 7 is sufficient to prevent sliding movement of the pad 7 relative to the upper surface of the bag 1 but does not prevent relative movement between the upper and lower panels of the bag 1. When the movable jaw 5 is moved towards the fixed jaw 3 a region of the upper panel of the bag is buckled between the two jaws. Raising of the clamp thus opens the bag, the lower side being held down by adhesive tape 9.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1990Date of Patent: November 3, 1992Assignee: W. R. Grace & Co.-Conn.Inventor: Gian C. Gianelli
