  • Patent number: 5042360
Abstract: The present invention relates to a regenerative hydraulic starter/speed regulator system for providing initial rotation and acceleration of a rotatable barrel cluster of a gun gas driven Gatling gun, and for controlling the speed of the barrel cluster during the firing of the gun. The hydraulic system includes a high pressure accumulator for containing a supply of pressurized hydraulic fluid. A hydraulic motor/pump unit is connected to either drive or be driven by the barrel cluster, depending on whether the motor/pump unit is operated in either the motoring or pumping mode. Initially, a servo mechanism operates the motor/pump unit in the motoring mode wherein pressurized fluid from the accumulator is supplied to the motor/pump unit to initially rotate and accelerate the barrel cluster in a firing direction until the rotation of the barrel cluster is sustained by the gun gas drive unit.

  • Patent number: 5016429
Abstract: Apparatus for automatically deheading wrapped newsprint rolls consists of a framework positioned above a pair of rotatable rollers adapted to support and rotate the newsprint roll. Two carriages are slidably supported on the framework above the newsprint roll. Each carriage is independently movable axially relative to one of the opposite end faces of the roll, is provided with an annular locating member engageable with that end face, and has a radially movable cutter adapted to sever the head wrapping covering that end face as the newsprint roll is rotated by the supporting rollers. The annular locating member is mounted obliquely relative to the newsprint roll axis to compensate for deformation of the newsprint roll end face.

  • Patent number: 4981749
Abstract: A nonwoven fabric formed of highly spinnable heat bonded continuous filaments which is strong and soft and is superior in hand. The nonwoven fabric is formed by heat-bonding filaments of linear low density polyethylene so that the number of defects is not more than 0.01/kg, the weight is 10-100 g/m.sup.2, the percentage bond area is 7-20% and the total hand value is 4-300 g. The nonwoven fabric is produced by melt-extruding the above-mentioned linear low density polyethylene to form filaments which are drawn by air guns at a high speed so that they are deposited on a moving collection belt to form a web which is then heat treated at a temperature 15.degree.-30.degree. l C. lower than the melting point of the filaments. The nonwoven fabric an be formed of filaments of hollow or flat cross section. It is also possible to utilize bicomponent filaments having a sheath component made of linear low density polyethylene and a core component made of polyethylene terephalate.

  • Patent number: 4972727
Abstract: A device for measuring torque in a shaft without contacting the latter. A torque transmitting shaft is formed with at least one detecting magnetically anisotropic region inclined to form an angle with respect to the axis of rotation of this shaft. A detecting coil is disposed on the periphery of the detecting magnetically anisotropic region. When the detecting voltage for the detecting coil changes owing to temperature changes and time-dependent changes, the changes in the detection sensitivity and in the zero point take place, leading to errors during torque measurement. Correct measured values can be obtained by having a device for correcting such changes in sensitivity and zero point.

  • Patent number: 4932079
Abstract: A garment supporter comprising a belt and an affixed harness the functional purpose of which is to maintain the position of an upper torso garment on the body of a wearer. The belt encircles the torso and the outer surface of the lower portion of such a garment, has at least one slip resistant surface engageable therewith, and thereby maintains its own position in relation to the garment. The harness is connected to the rear of the belt, extends through the crotch, is again connected to the front of the belt, and thereby maintains the position of the belt and the position of the garment relative to the body of the wearer.

  • Patent number: 4933580
Abstract: A magneto-strictive torque sensor for electrically contactlessly detecting a torque applied to a rotary shaft on the basis of a resulting change in the magnetic permeability of the surface of the shaft. Fine dents and retainer areas for retaining residual compressive stress due to the fine dents are formed on the surface of the rotary shaft. According to this arrangement, the process of magnetization resulting from the application of an exciting magnetic field and of the torque to the rotary shaft involves less magnetization due to magnetic domain wall displacement and consists principally of reversible magnetic rotation, with the result of reduced hysteresis in the magnetization process. The reduced hysteresis causes less hysteresis involved in torque detection and higher detection sensitivity, thus resulting in high accuracy of torque detection.

  • Patent number: 4927345
Abstract: The invention relates to a press cylinder for a high-temperature, high-pressure pressing machine for use in sinter molding ceramics, hard metals, and the like. An outer casing constructed of a carbon fiber reinforced carbon composite and an inner casing constructed of a heat resistant material are fitted together. The inner casing is formed with a longitudinally extending slit which meets given conditions. A gap which meets given conditions is formed between the outer casing and the inner casing. Because of the presence of the slit and the gap, no substantial stress is liable to be exerted on the outer and inner casings which are different in thermal expansion coefficient. Therefore, the outer and inner casing are not liable to fracture or plastic deformation.

  • Patent number: 4924658
Abstract: A packaging apparatus for folding the front and rear ends of a tubular film which covers an article toward the bottom surface of the article. After the front end of the film has been folded while the article is transported, a bar-like roller traveling along the bottom surface of the article at a higher speed than the transport speed of the article catches the rear end of the film and folds it. An air blowing device is installed along the path of travel of the bar-like roller. The air from the air blowing device presses the front and rear film ends against the bottom surface of the article. Thereby the front and rear film ends are prevented from being contacted by the bar-like roller which would strip it from the bottom surface of the article.

  • Patent number: 4910783
Abstract: A method and apparatus for finding, by dynamic programing, combined patterns of standard patterns which are most similar to an input pattern by conducting a comparison collation between the input pattern expressed by a feature vector row and various combined patterns of memorized standard patterns expressed by feature vector rows corresponding to respective units of the words and the like to be recognized. In a dynamic programming calculation apparatus a comparison collation distance between a local pattern of the input pattern and an individual standard pattern is obtained, as a first step, by a method which is independent of a local length of the input pattern.
