  • Patent number: 7791657
Abstract: An imaging system implementing a scheme for enhancing the dynamic range of the device. An array of radiation detecting pixels produces an output in response to a stimulus. The signal from each pixel is read once for evaluation. If the voltage at an individual pixel satisfies a programmed condition, such as exceeding a predetermined threshold voltage at a particular time, that pixel is reset and begins producing an output signal anew. If the pixel output signal does not satisfy the condition, it is allowed to continue producing the signal without being reset. After the evaluation read, all of the pixels are then read row by row into a buffer and digitally processed. A memory register tracks which pixels have been reset, and the corresponding output signals are adjusted accordingly. This scheme allows the system to process input signals across a broader range of intensity without losing information due to pixel saturation or sacrificing sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 7786910
Abstract: A device and method for correlation-based background calibration of pipelined converters with a reduced power penalty. A pipelined analog-to-digital converter (ADC) utilizes a random or pseudorandom signal to reduce the quantization error of subconverting stages. Stages within the ADC comprise an injection circuit having a plurality of capacitive branches in parallel. Less than all of the branches can function during a given clock cycle of the ADC. This allows a subconverting stage within the ADC to be accurately trimmed before operation using a large amplitude signal. At the same time, the capability to inject smaller amplitude random or pseudorandom signals into the subconverting stage during operation is maintained, saving valuable dynamic range and power. The various capacitive branches are cycled through either randomly or in sequence such that the quantizer manifests the same average gain error over time for which the quantizer was initially trimmed.

  • Patent number: 7786911
Abstract: A high-order delta-sigma analog-to-digital converter. A plurality of stages are connected to accept an analog input signal and produce a digital output signal. Each stage has a resettable ?-? converter of second order or higher. Resetting each stage before accepting a new input purges the integrators of any information related to the previous input, allowing step inputs to the system. The stability of the converter is ensured using local feedback loops at each stage. Each stage provides a digital representation of a portion of the analog input signal. A decimation filter receives the digital signals from the stages and arranges them into the digital output signal.

  • Patent number: 7776739
Abstract: A semiconductor device interconnection contact and fabrication method comprises fabricating one or more active devices on a semiconductor substrate. A diffusion barrier layer is deposited over the devices, followed by an Al-based metallization layer. The diffusion barrier and metallization layers are masked and etched to define interconnection traces. Mask and etch steps are then performed to remove interconnection trace metallization that is in close proximity to the active device regions, while leaving the traces' diffusion barrier layer intact to provide conductive paths to the devices, thereby reducing metallization-induced mechanical stress which might otherwise cause device instability.

  • Patent number: 7772821
Abstract: A digital current share bus interface connects to a power module which provides a signal representative of its output current, and adjusts the module's output current in response to a control signal received from the interface. A data formatting module receives the output current signal and generates a digital word that varies with the current; the bits of the word are coupled to a current share bus. A comparator module receives digital words conveyed via the bus and generated by the data formatting module at respective inputs, and provides the control signal to the power module so as to adjust its output current to match the current value represented by the digital word on the bus. In a typical implementation, multiple power modules are coupled to the current share bus via respective interfaces, with the output currents of all the power modules connected in parallel.

  • Patent number: 7769066
Abstract: A laser diode and method for fabricating same, wherein the laser diode generally comprises an InGaN compliance layer on a GaN n-type contact layer and an AlGaN/GaN n-type strained super lattice (SLS) on the compliance layer. An n-type GaN separate confinement heterostructure (SCH) is on said n-type SLS and an InGaN multiple quantum well (MQW) active region is on the n-type SCH. A GaN p-type SCH on the MQW active region, an AlGaN/GaN p-type SLS is on the p-type SCH, and a p-type GaN contact layer is on the p-type SLS. The compliance layer has an In percentage that reduces strain between the n-type contact layer and the n-type SLS compared to a laser diode without the compliance layer. Accordingly, the n-type SLS can be grown with an increased Al percentage to increase the index of refraction. This along with other features allows for reduced threshold current and voltage operation.
