  • Patent number: 8228405
Abstract: A non-uniformity correction (NUC) process for imaging engines is augmented with real-time pixel substitution capability. This feature checks for pixels that have significantly degraded from their factory performance. Degraded pixels found are then substituted in real time. This process eliminates distractions to the camera system operator and prevents these degraded pixels from degrading the subjective image quality.

  • Patent number: 8220113
Abstract: A hinged clamp provides quick connection and disconnection of sections of fluid tubing. Some embodiments include a spring-loaded catch mechanism that enables the clamp to be loosely latched, and a winding mechanism that can retract the catch to a securely latched condition. Other embodiments provide a hinged shaft that pivots about an end of the upper clamp ring. A middle section of the shaft can be inserted into a slotted opening in the lower clamp ring, and the winding mechanism can move an engagement surface against the lower clamp ring to securely latch the clamp. An adjustment mechanism is included in these embodiments which can adjust the amount of winding required to engage the clamp. In various embodiments, less than one turn or less than one-half turn is required to engage/disengage the clamp. The clamp can be openable only just enough for insertion of flanged ends of the tubing sections.

  • Patent number: 8221153
Abstract: An electrical connector housing system includes a plug housing, a receptacle housing, and a latching mechanism. The latching mechanism pivots on pivot posts on one housing and hooks to latching posts on the other housing, thereby securing the mated housings together. Catches on the latch mechanism engage with tabs near the latching posts when the latching mechanism is latched. The catches must be released using a screwdriver or similar tool before opening the latching mechanism and separating the mated housings. A protective barrier can be included to block direct access to the engaged catches and tabs. The housings include overlapping shells which exclude water and dirt, and the latching mechanism at least partially covers and further protects the shells when closed. In embodiments, a retaining mechanism automatically holds the latch open against gravity, facilitating connection and release of the housings with one hand and/or while wearing gloves.

  • Patent number: 8223020
Abstract: A method for synchronizing a RFID receiver, comprising receiving an input signal from a RFID tag, said input signal comprising a preamble section, creating a first reference waveform, comprising at least a fraction of said preamble section, calculating a first correlation value by correlating said input signal and said first reference waveform, creating a second reference signal so that there is virtually zero correlation between said first reference waveform and said second reference waveform, and using said first correlation value and said second correlation value for adjusting synchronization timebase, wherein the sign and the size of said second correlation value indicates the size and the sign of phase inaccuracy of the synchronization timebase.

  • Patent number: 8217759
Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide systems and methods for detecting activities and determining information about the activities. Exemplary embodiments use one or more items of context information on one or more objects to detect an activity. Examples of context information include, but are not limited to, identities of objects, roles or activities associated with objects, locations/locales of objects, historical locations/locales of objects, associations between objects, duration of associations between objects, etc. Upon detecting an activity, exemplary embodiments also determine information about the detected activity.

  • Patent number: 8216140
Abstract: A self-operated non-contact tonometer for measuring the intra-ocular pressure of an eye, projecting light into the eye and measuring the reflected light as affected by mechanical distortion. The cornea is distorted by delivering a pneumatic pulse. The tonometer consists mainly of an electro-optical unit mountable on the head of a user and a control unit. The control unit of the tonometer includes a display and optionally an audio device for instructing the user. The electro-optical unit employs a tubular wave guide, a light detector, and a reflector for deflecting a light beam to the eye and for eliminating a part of the reflected light reaching the detector. The aligning of the tonometer with the head of the user is optionally assisted by a reticle.

  • Patent number: 8215899
Abstract: A vertically mountable shaft and bearing assembly includes a thermally insulated housing which protects the shaft, bearing(s), seal(s), and bearing lubricant from overheating due to a surrounding process fluid at a temperature exceeding 65° C. The thermal insulation, which in some embodiments includes vacuum, air, or an insulating material, enables a rolling element bearing to be located near the shaft's distal end, thereby reducing shaft and bearing size requirements. Lubricant is circulated past the bearing(s) by a circulation and cooling system having a capacity typical of systems used with process fluids at much lower temperatures. Additional roller and/or journal bearings can be included. The lubricant circulation system can be actuated by the shaft or driven separately. Lubricant within the shaft housing can be pressurized, for example by pressurizing gas or by filling the lubricant above the surrounding process fluid level. The shaft can operate a process fluid pump impeller.

  • Patent number: 8218012
Abstract: A sensor is used to detect and track a plurality of objects by using a separate track window for each object. Such sensors may be electro optical or infrared. Each object of interest (potential target) in the sensor FOV has a unique track window assigned. This allows independent control of video frame summing for each object to maintain a constant (optimized) signal to noise ratio (SNR) over an extremely large signal dynamic range and reduces track jitter by the simultaneous tracking of multiple objects.

  • Patent number: 8191840
Abstract: A pole clamp is disclosed that can firmly attach heavy fixtures to a pole, such as a center or side pole of a special-events tent, with quick and easy fixture mounting and dismounting. The head of a fixture-mounting bolt is downwardly slidable into a T-channel of the clamp, where it rests against a stop pin and rigidly supports the fixture until it is lifted out of the T-channel. A plurality of T-channels can provide for a plurality of fixture attachments at a plurality of orientations. In some embodiments, the clamp includes a pair of identical, hingedly joined, rigid aluminum segments that can be placed on opposite sides of the pole and compressed against the pole by pressing of the unhinged, flanged ends toward each other using a bolt, cam lever, or similar means. The rigid segments can be shaped to accommodate a pole of any cross-sectional size and shape.
