  • Patent number: 4325829
Abstract: A particulate detergent composition for fabric conditioning includes, in addition to a detergency active material, from 10-40% of a mixture of tripolyphosphate and orthophosphate in the ratio of 20:1 to 3:1 together with 2-25% of a mixture of soap and an anionic polyelectrolyte in the ratio of 10:1 to 1:1. Any pyrophosphate present must be kept below 5%. The soap and polyelectrolyte result in reduced deposition of inorganic materials onto the fabrics. The preferred polyelectrolyte is sodium polyacrylate with a molecular weight of about 27,000. The composition may also include conventional additional ingredients.

  • Patent number: 4325828
Abstract: A solid detergent bleach composition adapted for use at substantially any washing temperature, comprising essentially a detergent active compound and a synergistic mixture of a solid organic peroxy acid compound e.g. diperoxyazelaic acid, an inorganic peroxy compound e.g. sodium perborate and a stabilizing sequestering agent. The composition which is preferably presented in the form of a particulate product, shows improved bleaching effect at substantially all washing temperatures. It has also advantages over compositions comprising bleaching activators in that it does not suffer from problems of in situ peroxy acid generation.

  • Patent number: 4309299
Abstract: The premature release of chlorine from chlorine-releasing bleaching agents in a particulate detergent, caused by the action on such a bleaching agent by some other component in the detergent, is prevented by compacting and granulating a mixture of said other component, preferably with additional constituents which do not have the chlorine-releasing effect, and then mixing those granules with the chlorine-releasing bleaching agent and other appropriate detergent constituents. The resulting novel detergent is a mixture of the thus-produced granules with particles of the said other appropriate detergent constituents.

  • Patent number: 4308024
Abstract: The invention relates to the field of fabric softening. It provides for fabric softening compositions comprising a relatively water-insoluble cationic detergent surfactant and a free C.sub.8 -C.sub.24 alkyl- or alkenylmonocarboxylic acid. These compositions are significantly more storage stable than compositions, wherein the monocarboxylic is present as a soap. Further inclusion of a relatively water-soluble cationic detergent surfactant or cationic polymer significantly increases the softening performance.

  • Patent number: 4307026
Abstract: Unsaturated fatty acid derivatives which, besides fatty acids with two double bonds, contain fatty acids with more than two double bonds, are hydrogenated in the presence of a palladium, platinum or rhodium catalyst which has been treated with ethylenediamine or a homologue and/or a derivative thereof and at a temperature of -20.degree. to 100.degree. C. The hydrogenation progresses very selectively while very little isomerization to trans-fatty acids occurs. For example, in the hydrogenation of soya bean oil to a linolenic acid content of 2%, the linoleic acid content only decreases to 45-52%. Under identical conditions an untreated catalyst leads to a linoleic acid content of about 35%.

  • Patent number: 4306079
Abstract: Novel polyfunctional compounds and a novel process for their preparation are disclosed. These compounds may be converted into the acid or salt forms of cis and trans aconitic acids as well as into a racemic mixture of isocitric acid, alloisocitric acid and the lactones of isocitric acid and alloisocitric acid and their salts. All of the acid and salt forms produced are useful as metal sequestrants and/or detergent builders. The novel polyfunctional compounds can also be saponified to their corresponding alkali metal salts which, in turn, are also metal ion sequestering agents and detergent builders. The polyfunctional compounds are the reaction products obtained from the reaction of selected salts of monoalkyl esters of maleic acid with selected active hydrogen containing compounds.

  • Patent number: 4304745
Abstract: Multi-colored detergent bars can be manufactured by extruding detergent material through a multi-apertured plate in a detergent plodder and injecting a visually distinctive liquid at the plate. The liquid is distributed throughout the detergent material in the form of striations as the material is compressed in the extrusion cone.A specific form of external striping and the use of increased amounts of injected liquid can be achieved by having some of the apertures positioned peripherally on the plate. These apertures form `walls` of extruded material which constrain the liquid into stripes. The manufactured bar has a distinctive appearance because the external striations are wider than the internal striations.
