Abstract: The invention relates to a detergent composition in powder or bar form containing a surfactant, an alkali metal carbonate and a low level (1 to 5%) of orthophosphate, other phosphates being maintained at a level below 5%. A peroxygen bleach and other conventional additives are optionally present. The compositions are suitable for washing fabrics in developing countries and are suitable as low cost products elsewhere.
Abstract: Novel polyfunctional compounds and a novel process for their preparation are disclosed. These compounds may be converted into the acid or salt forms of cis and trans aconitic acids as well as into a racemic mixture of isocitric acid, alloisocitric acid and the lactones of isocitric acid and alloisocitric acid and their salts. All of the acid and salt forms produced are useful as metal sequestrants and/or detergent builders. The novel polyfunctional compounds can also be saponified to their corresponding alkali metal salts which, in turn, are also metal ion sequestering agents and detergent builders. The polyfunctional compounds are the reaction products obtained from the reaction of selected salts of monoalkyl esters of maleic acid with selected active hydrogen containing compounds.
Abstract: The invention relates to a detergent composition in powder or bar form containing a surfactant, an alkali metal carbonate and a low level (1 to 12%) of pyrophosphate, other phosphates being maintained at a level below 5%. A peroxygen bleach and other conventional additives are optionally present. The compositions are suitable for washing fabrics in developing countries and are suitable for low cost products elsewhere.

Abstract: The invention concerns an aqueous shampoo comprising an alkyl sulphate or alkyl ether sulphate detergent, a cationic derivative of a polygalactomannan gum as a hair conditioning agent and, for enhancing the deposition of the conditioning agent onto the hair during shampooing, a defined carboxylate, sulphate or phosphate ester anionic additive.
Abstract: After washing fabrics can be treated with a conditioning agent, for example a fabric softener. In one method of treatment a substrate impregnated with a conditioning agent is contacted with the washed fabrics in tumble drier. The agent is transferred to the fabric during the repeated contacts between the substrate and fabric. The invention is the use of a substrate having a more dense structure at the outer surface. This more dense structure, which can be formed from laminated foam polymers, reduces the release of the agent so that the release is more even over a number of cycles.
Abstract: A method and compositions for pre-laundering treatment of fabrics for stain removal are disclosed. The compositions comprise 25-100% of an ester of a short chain alcohol and a fatty acid and 0-75% of a surfactant.
Abstract: A highly absorbent material, especially suitable for use in absorbent disposable products such as sanitary towels and tampons, consisting of a substantially water-insoluble cross-linked gelatinized starch, in which the degree of substitution of the cross-linking groups is from 0.001 to 0.04, which is substituted by ionic groups which are associated with mono- or di-valent counterions, and which has a urine retention value of at least 6 g/g.

Abstract: Detergent bars for personal washing are given a deodorant property by including an ester of citric acid. The ester may be an acetyl derivative. The amount of ester used will be in the range of from about 0.3% to about 3%. Examples of the esters are triethyl citrate and acetyl tributyl citrate.

Abstract: The specification describes a fat composition which is suitable for use as confectioners' butter, particularly for biscuit cream fillings. The composition consists essentially of a random distribution of combined C.sub.10 -C.sub.18 fatty acids with a maximum stearic acid content and a specified iodine value range.
Abstract: A deodorant detergent product comprises a soap; detergent adjuncts including a detergency builder (other than soap) and/or a bleach; and a deodorant composition. The product can be employed for washing fabrics which when subsequently worn in contact with the skin aid in the reduction of human body malodor.

Abstract: Particulate bleach (and detergent) compositions with improved bleach efficiency are disclosed comprising a particulate peroxybleach compound and tetraacetyl ethylene diamine (TAED), said TAED having the following particle size distribution as determined by sieve analysis:0-20%>150 .mu.m10-100%>100 .mu.m<150 .mu.m0-50%<75 .mu.m0-20%<50 .mu.m,and being contained in granules in combination with a granulating agent, said granules having particle size ranging from 100-2000 .mu.m and comprising 10-99% by weight of TAED. The particulate bleach composition does not suffer from significant sedimentation and/or dissolution problems and does not suffer from significant decomposition problems during storage.

Abstract: Hard fat replacers, particularly for cocoa-butter, are provided comprising mixtures of mid-fraction from palm oil and at least 85% pure SOS, POS or SOS/POS. SOS is 1,3-distearyl-2-oleyl glycerol and POS is 1-palmityl-2-oleyl-3-stearyl glycerol. Using these hard fat replacers hardened milk chocolate and plain chocolate suitable for tropical use can be prepared as well as excellent normal plain and milk chocolates.

Abstract: Novel polyfunctional compounds and a process for their preparation are disclosed. These compounds and their alkali metal salts are useful metal sequestrants and/or detergent builders. Selected compounds are also intermediates useful in the syntheses of aconitic acid as well as isocitric and alloisocitric acids and their lactones. The novel polyfunctional compounds are obtained from the reaction of maleic anhydride with selected active methylene or methane containing compounds.
Abstract: Suspensions of sodium aluminosilicate are stabilized by using 0.5-10% of a nonionic detergent active compound and 0.2-15% of a compatible water soluble salt. The stabilized suspensions can be used in the preparation of particulate detergent compositions by adding one or more other detergent ingredients and then drying the mixture.
Abstract: Triglyceride oils, which contain besides fatty acids having two double bonds, fatty acids having more than two double bonds, are hydrogenated using palladium, platinum, rhodium and/or iridium as a catalyst, the catalyst being treated with dry ammonia. The hydrogenation is carried out at a temperature of at least 100.degree. C. The hydrogenation progresses in a particularly selective manner. On using, for instance, soyabean oil, which contains about 55% of linoleic acid and 7% of linolenic acid, the amount of linolenic acid can be reduced to 2%, whereby more than 45% of linoleic acid is retained in the hydrogenated product. In case the catalyst is not treated, said amount is only about 35%.
