  • Patent number: 4792241
Abstract: A dual draw tape bag has a front wall and back wall of flexible sheet material joined to each other along edges of the bag. Tubular channels extend along opposed transverse top edges of the front and back walls. The channels define an open mouth for the bag. Each of the channels has openings at the opposite ends of the top edges of the bag. A pair of tapes extend through each of the chanels. One of the ends of each of the tapes is attached to the opposite side edges of the bag beneath the openings in the channels and the other ends of the tapes extend through the respective openings at the other end of the channels so that the tapes cross in the channels, whereby when the tapes are pulled, the top of the bag is drawn tightly together.

  • Patent number: 4790180
Abstract: Core samples are obtained from a plurality of differing depths in a subterranean formation. The samples are dried to effect an evaporation of the water content, leaving behind a salt precipitate. The dried samples are weighed. The salt precipitate is then leached out of the samples and the samples are again weighed, the difference in such weighings identifying the amount of salt precipitate. Alternatively, the salt content can be more accurately determined by chemical analysis of the leached solution. A measurement is made of the pore volume of the samples. From the measured weights of salt precipitates and sample pore volumes, the salt content in mass per unit volume is determined for each sample. Such salt content is plotted versus formation depth from which the core samples were taken. Trends in such plotted salt content are used to identify fluid characteristics of the formations at the in-situ reservoir conditions of pressure and temperature and at the in-situ wettability state of the reservoir.

  • Patent number: 4790928
Abstract: The acidity of a zeolite catalyst is reduced by calcination in an essentially water-free atmosphere at temperatures above 700.degree. C., preferably from 725.degree. to 800.degree. C., to reduce the alpha value to less than about 10 percent of its original value. The low acidity catalysts produced in this way may be used for conversions requiring low acidity, shape selective catalysis, including dewaxing. The calcined, low acidity catalysts exhibit improved dewaxing activity.

  • Patent number: 4789458
Abstract: A fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process and apparatus is described which includes a high temperature stripper (hot stripper) to control the carbon level, hydrogen level, and sulfur level on spent catalyst, followed by single or multi-stage regeneration. The high temperature stripper may operate at a temperature between 100.degree. F. above the temperature of a catalyst hydrocarbon mixture exiting a riser and 1500.degree. F. The regenerator may operate at a temperature between 100.degree. F. above that of the catalyst in the hot stripper and 1600.degree. F. Hot regenerated catalyst recycles to the hot stripper to maintain the hot stripper temperature. The present invention has the advantage that it separates hydrogen from catalyst to eliminate hydrothermal degradation, and separates sulfur from catalyst as hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans which are easy to scrub. The present invention also provides a method and apparatus for converting a TCC unit to a FCC unit, with maximum use of the TCC unit.

  • Patent number: 4789528
Abstract: A multi-reactor hydrocarbon catalytic conversion system includes at least three reactors, a feed source for providing hydrocarbon feed to the reactors and apparatus for sequentially backwardly rotating the reactors during process mode operation of the reactors. In each of a series of sequential cycles, at least one reactor currently operates in a regeneration mode position, while other reactors operate in process mode positions. A reactor having freshest catalyst is in a last process mode position, and a reactor having relatively least fresh catalyst is in a first process mode position. The reactor having relatively least fresh catalyst receives fresh feed first from the feed source, and the reactor having freshest catalyst receives the partially converted feed last. Method and apparatus are provided for rotation of the reactors, without the necessity of stopping operation of the catalytic conversion process while the shifting of the reactors is being performed.

  • Patent number: 4789457
Abstract: A moderate pressure hydrocracking process in which a highly aromatic, substantially dealkylated feedstock is processed directly to high octane gasoline by hydrocracking over a catalyst, preferably comprising a large pore size, crystalline alumino-silicate zeolite hydrocracking catalyst such as zeolite Y together with a hydrogenation-dehydrogenation component. The feedstock which is preferably a light cycle oil has an aromatic content of at least 50, usually at least 60 percent and an API gravity not more than 25. The hydrocracking typically operates at 600-1000 psig at moderate to high conversion leavels to maximize the production of monocyclic aromatics which provide the requisite octane value to the product gasoline. The unconverted products from the hydrocracker are recyclied to the catalytic cracking unit to obtain further improvements in gasoline yield and octane.

  • Patent number: 4787967
Abstract: A fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) process and apparatus which employs relatively more elutriatable catalyst particles comprising intermediate pore zeolite, particularly ZSM-5, and relatively less elutriatable catalyst particles comprising large pore zeolite, preferably zeolite Y. The process and apparatus employ a first stripping vessel which also separates a more elutriatable first portion of catalyst from a less elutriatable second portion of catalyst. The more elutriatable first portion passes to a second stripping vessel, and subsequently recycles to a fluid catalytic cracking reactor riser. The second portion of less elutriatable catalyst passes from the first stripping vessel to a fluid catalytic cracking regenerator vessel and, after being regenerated, recycles to the reactor riser. The more elutriatable first portion contains a higher ratio of intermediate pore catalyst particles to large pore catalyst particles than does the second portion.

  • Patent number: 4787455
Abstract: A method for inhibiting the formation of scale and corrosion in a well penetrating a subterranean formation for the production of fluids from the formation comprising injecting a predetermined amount of microparticles of a basic anion exchange resin providing a source of polycations into the formation about the well and that are trapped and retained by the interstices of the formation without rendering the interstices or the formation impermeable to the flow of fluids. Thereafter a predetermined amount of an aqueous solution of scale and corrosion inhibitor is injected into the formation about the well that contacts the basic anion exchange resin and becomes fixed in a slightly soluble state either by complexation with the polycations or is precipitated by the polycations in the exchange resin. The scale and corrosion inhibitor is released slowly at effective concentration into fluids produced by the well to inhibit scale formation and corrosion.
