  • Patent number: 4680781
Abstract: Disclosed is a data telecommunications system and method in which at least one modem which, capable of operating at a variety of transmission speeds, selects the proper speed at which to operate. An initiating modem capable of operating at a plurality of operating speeds compares the maximum operating speed of a receiving modem, and if a match is found, operation begins at that operating speed. If no match is found, operation begins at a default transmission speed.

  • Patent number: 4680773
Abstract: A data telecommunications system and method is provided for sending a data stream of characters between two pieces of data terminal equipment (which can be either terminals and/or computers) connected over communication lines. A modem is connected between each piece of data terminal equipment and the communication lines, and at least one of the modems is capable of operating in both a special mode which provides optimized data transmission and a normal mode which provides direct non-optimized data transmission. Upon detection of a special mode indicating character, a modem of the data telecommunication system of the present invention will establish a link under the special mode protocol. In one embodiment, when a second special character is detected by the modem, the modem is caused to operate in a normal mode. In an alternate embodiment, the modem will store characters in a special buffer memory until either the special mode-indicating character is detected or until the buffer fills.

  • Patent number: 4674124
Abstract: In the masking sound source disclosed herein, easily adjustable but matching acoustic energy spectrums are obtained from different channels by providing, for each channel, a plurality of bandpass filters, each of which is provided with a respective gain-controlled amplifier for selectively adjusting the respective signal level. The bandpass characteristics of each filter are matched to the corresponding filter in each other channel and a common control signal is applied to the respective gain-controlled amplifiers. The filtered and level-adjusted signals for each channel are then summed and applied to respective power amplifiers suitable for energizing loudspeakers. Accordingly, the frequency spectrum applied to all loud speakers will be the same even though the signals applied may be incoherently related within the spectrum.

  • Patent number: 4668257
Abstract: The invention relates to a water separator for a gas analyzer with a water separation chamber formed in a housing, a supply and a discharge for the gas to be analyzed being connected with said chamber and a collection reservoir for the separated water being positioned below said water separation chamber. The water separation chamber consists of a conical and annular space having a diameter that decreases towards the collection reservoir and wherein the supply and the discharge debouch in that part of the annular space having substantially the greatest diameter. This results in a very effective separation of the water and the gas. A water lock can be provided between the annular space and the collection reservoir, said water lock limiting the dead space. The water separator can further be improved by cooling at least one wall of the annular space.
