  • Patent number: 4654546
Abstract: The present invention concerns a dielectric film for converting electromagnetic or electrostatic energy into mechanical work, and a procedure for manufacturing the film. The film of the invention consists of a homogeneous film layer foamed to be of full-cell type and which has been oriented by stretching it in two directions and coated at least in part on one side or on both sides with an electrically conductive layer. The film is manufactured by extruding the plastic which has been made to be foamable, into tubular shape, performing intermediate cooling of the tube and reheating it, expanding the heated tube in two directions, metallizing the outer surfaces and cutting the tube open to become a film.

  • Patent number: 4650244
Abstract: A sliding roof for a vehicle with a roof opening, comprising a transparent outer panel and an inner panel with a grip. The outer panel may be moved downwardly from its closed position in the roof opening and may be slid backwardly between the fixed roof and the inner roof lining of the vehicle to a wholly or partly opened position and back. Upon opening of the outer panel a carrier means on the outer panel slides the inner panel backwardly and in the wholly opened position of the outer panel the inner panel substantially entirely lies between the inner roof lining and the fixed roof and a hand grip of the inner panel is inaccessible. Upon the forward movement of the outer panel from its substantially rearward wholly opened position, a locking mechanism locks the inner panel in a position in which the handgrip remains inaccessible.

  • Patent number: 4649002
Abstract: A system to prevent, retard or reverse the decomposition of silicon carbide articles during high temperature plasma sintering. Preferably, the system comprises sintering a silicon carbide refractory or ceramic green body in a closed sintering environment, such as a covered crucible, with strategic placement of the plasma torch or torches, exhaust outlet and crucibles. As sintering proceeds, a silicon vapor pressure builds up within the crucible, retarding the decomposition of the silicon carbide body. The plasma torch, exhaust outlet, and crucibles are positioned so that buoyant convective flow is maximized to increase the heat transfer and energy efficiency. In another embodiment, a "sacrificial" source of silicon carbide is placed into the sintering furnace. The silicon carbide in the sacrificial source starts to decompose before the silicon carbide refractory or ceramic article, creating a supersaturated atmosphere of silicon vapor species in the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4647172
Abstract: In the resist development method disclosed herein, the spin development of a resist coating on the surface of a semiconductor wafer is monitored by measuring light scattered back from the wafer surface from an incandescent source. During development, the sensed light level oscillates due to optical fringing caused by the thinning of the resist layer in the exposed areas and the fringe generated oscillation essentially stops when the development breaks through in the exposed areas. By comparing sample data obtained from the sensed light level with template data representing a known or characteristic behavior, a control point corresonding to the last fringe may be determined. Development is then terminated a calculated time after the control point.

  • Patent number: 4640619
Abstract: The calibration scheme disclosed herein is applicable to microlithographic systems of the type in which alignment between successive exposures is provided by means of a microscope mounted to one side of the optical projection column, there being a laser metered stage for transporting a semiconductor wafer between the microscope and an optical projection column. In accordance with the practice of the invention, a wafer with a light sensitive coating is placed on the stage and transported to the column using an approximate base line value. After exposure from a reticle which includes fiducial markings, the wafer is transported by the stage to the microscope. By observing the latent image on the coating, the precise stage movement required to align the latent image of the fiducial markings on the wafer with the microscope system reference reticle may be measured with the laser metered stage. The base line value is then corrected based on the actual measurement.

  • Patent number: 4638695
Abstract: An exhaust duct is arranged vertically slidably on a vertical board saw so that it always follows the vertical movement of the sawing unit during horizontal cutting. The exhaust duct is formed by a U-shaped profile, in which an endless driven band is guided. A slot provided in the band is located in front of the saw blade (S) in every position of the sawing unit; the sawdust thrown off by the saw blade thus passes through the slot into the space enclosed by the band and is exhausted. A sealing element is fitted on the front band side just in front of the slot. The apparatus ensures a virtually 100% discharge of the chips and sawdust in the case of horizontal cutting, which is of great significance particularly in sale rooms and exhibition rooms, and contributes to humane conditions in the workshop.
