  • Patent number: 7986914
Abstract: Architecture for playing back personal text-based messages such as email and voicemail over a vehicle-based media system. The user can use a cell phone that registers over a cellular network to an IMS (IP multimedia subsystem) to obtain an associated IP address. The personal messages are then converted into audio signals using a remote text-to-voice (TTV) converter and transmitted to the phone based on the IP address. The phone then transmits the audio signals to the vehicle media system for playback using an unlicensed wireless technology (e.g., Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.). Other alternative embodiments include transmitting converted message directly to the media system, via a satellite channel, converting the messages via a TTV converter on the cell phone, and streaming the converted messages to the phone and/or the media system for playback.

  • Patent number: 7983707
Abstract: A push-to-talk communications device (PCD) provides improved push-to-talk (PTT) communications. The PCD may include a PTT activator and a PTT module having a buffer and communications logic for providing full duplex PTT communications. In a Point-to-Point PTT mode of operation, PTT communications are performed between two PCDs with the PCDs exercising floor control. After the establishment of communications between the PCDs, the PCDs may enter a PTT talk mode wherein messages are transmitted between the PCDs in real time when a PTT activator is engaged. A PCD may also enter a group PTT mode wherein a PTT server exercises floor control between an initiating PCD and multiple target PCDs.

  • Patent number: 7983675
Abstract: A mobile station for receiving delay-sensitive data from a wireless communications network is provided with a data buffer and cell reselection controller. The data buffer receives data from the network and stores the data for communication to a delay-sensitive data application. The cell reselection controller selectively inhibits cell reselection in order to meet requirements of the delay-sensitive data application. By intelligently controlling cell reselection, delay sensitive data may be received in a more reliable fashion, thereby increasing performance of the data application.

  • Patent number: 7953395
Abstract: Enhanced message notification is provided by an enhanced notification function element and a subscriber preference profile database. The enhanced notification function element queries the subscriber preference profile database to obtain subscriber communication terminal capabilities information, which it uses to select a message notification technology. The enhanced notification function element may then format an enhanced notification that is delivered to a communication terminal through a delivery system architecture appropriate for the selected message notification technology. The enhanced notification may contain: a message type indicator; an identifier of the party leaving the message; a date and time that the message was deposited; multimedia objects; and other enhanced information. The enhanced notification function element may also query a terminal roaming status database in order to determine if the enhanced message should be sent when the terminal is roaming.

  • Patent number: 7949347
Abstract: A cellular telephone or other wireless mobile user equipment (UE) can be located with greater than cell precision by monitoring for transmitted radio signals at landline telephone sites, such as offices in a building. At each site, a telephone instrument device not only performs functions characteristic of a conventional desktop or landline telephone instrument, but also detects radio signals emitted by any nearby UE. Any detected signals are transmitted from the landline telephone site to a central monitoring location. The central monitoring location receives some or all of the transmitted signal information as well as information identifying the landline telephone site at which radio signals emitted by a UE have been detected, such as a landline telephone number. The telephone number is then used to determine the location of the landline telephone site.

  • Patent number: 7929683
Abstract: To route calls in a wireless network in which an NPA split has been implemented, an intelligent router mediates NPA mismatches by modifying requests for routing information according to a rule set based on the update status of the HLR or other network element to which the routing requests are directed. According to whether the intended network element has been updated to recognize a new NPA in the directory number, the appropriate version of the directory number is included in the routing request, regardless of whether the old or the new version of the directory was actually dialed. In some embodiments, the intelligent router first modifies the routing request to include the new version of the directory number, and upon receiving an error from the intended element, resends the request with the old version. Receiving an error may prompt the intelligent router to trigger an update of the intended element.
