  • Patent number: 8140649
Abstract: Rich multimedia content is provided to a wireless device, particularly in response to a request for directory assistance generated by a client application. The multimedia content is provided as a multimedia message including bundled multimedia elements such as images, sound, text, and video files. The multimedia elements are compiled into a single multimedia presentation or deck that includes multiple screens that are automatically advanced for the convenience of the wireless device user. The user can interact with elements of the multimedia presentation, for example by placing orders, providing payment information, controlling playback, and forwarding or saving the deck to the wireless device. Multiple decks may be retrieved by a single request, and the decks are presented in an order determined by a bidding system or according to user preferences. Elements can be presented visually and/or audibly, and the user can interact using voice commands, manual entries, or stored entries.

  • Patent number: 8139726
Abstract: A method and system for allowing a calling party to send a voicemail message as a text message. A calling party leaves a voicemail message and that message is converted from voice to a text message. If the calling party wishes to confirm the conversion, the text message is then converted to a voicemail message. The converted voicemail message is presented to the calling party so that the calling party can review and edit the message. The calling party can review and edit any portion of the converted voicemail message. The edits of the voicemail message are applied and the voicemail message is converted to a new text message. If the calling party wishes to further review and edit the text message, it is converted to a new voicemail; otherwise the text message is sent to the called party.

  • Patent number: 8121599
Abstract: A device includes a processor configured to determine a number of users in each of a plurality of wireless telephone cells of a trajectory in a wireless telephone network. The processor is also configured to determine handoff data between each adjacent pair of the wireless telephone cells, and to determine a first number of users traveling along the trajectory in the wireless telephone network while on a telephone call. The processor also calculates a total number of users associated with the trajectory in the wireless telephone network based on the handoff data between each adjacent pair of the wireless telephone cells, and based on the first number of users traveling along the trajectory while on the telephone call.

  • Patent number: 8116748
Abstract: The location of group members having mobile communications devices such as cellular telephones, PDAs, and the like are managed by maintaining group member location awareness among the individual group members. The location of each group member is known on the basis of the determined location of the mobile communications device of each, either in absolute terms or in relative terms. The absolute and/or relative location may be reported by the mobile communications devices, such as to a mobile communications device of an administrator of the group or directly to individual group members. Rules may be established for providing notifications such as alerts and alarms to the group members when a group member strays from the group or from a fixed reference point and information may be provided to the straying member to assist the straying member in returning to the group.

  • Patent number: 8117131
Abstract: An online, and therefore distributed, technology transfer department accessible by multiple inventive entities is provided. The systems and methods of the invention provide a comprehensive interface to a remote application that collects information related to inventions, ranks the inventions, solicits approval for pursuing intellectual property protection, funding, financing, commercializing or otherwise exploiting the invention, solicits bids from a stable of service providers, manages the award of contracts to provide services, facilitates collaboration between users internal and external to the inventive entities and between different entities, implements security protocols, and reports government funded inventions to the appropriate regulatory agencies, and manages intellectual property portfolios. Each inventive entity may specify the level of control to be retained to utilize the distributed technology office application as a supplement for or as a substitute for full time technology transfer personnel.

  • Patent number: 8116744
Abstract: An advanced message waiting indication system includes the ability to provide message waiting indicators for a plurality of voice mail (“VM”) systems. When a message is left on a remote VM system, a message waiting notification is passed to a centralized VM system. The centralized VM system can connect to the remote VM system, authenticate as the user, download the messages and accompanying data, and then disconnect from the remote VM system. The message and accompanying data can then be used to determine a message waiting indicator (MWI) that is then passed to an electronic device for display. The MWI can inform a user about many aspects of the waiting messages.

  • Patent number: 8116787
Abstract: Coverage-based quality-of-service (QoS) in wireless networks. A premium QoS service is provided by the network to users who qualify to receive QoS signals by moving handsets into a bounded premium service geographical coverage area. A mobile handset periodically transmits handset lat-long data to the wireless network via a control channel. The network includes data that defines the bounded geographical coverage area. The wireless network receives the handset lat-long data and maps the data to coverage area data. If the handset lat-long data maps into the coverage area data, the user handset is authorized to receive and use the premium QoS signals over a 3G network; otherwise, the user falls back to default service on a 2G network. Alternatively, the network utilizes a trained neural network to process the lat-long data to qualify the handset for premium services.

  • Patent number: 8107973
Abstract: A system for providing class structured location based services can include a memory and a processor. The memory can store instructions for execution by a processor, and rules. The processor can use location information provided by a location component, and the rules stored in the memory to analyze an attempted use of location based services. The system can determine whether the attempted use should be allowed based upon classification of the location based service and comparison of the classified service to classes defined by rules. Many classes can be included, and override conditions can be defined. Some methods for providing class structured location based services are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8107957
Abstract: Tools and techniques for seamless enterprise and consumer mobility with multiple numbers are described. The techniques provide simultaneous ringing on a mobile communication device and manage network connections between the mobile communication device and at least two networks. The simultaneous rings are to at least one of a primary number associated with a mobile communication device and one or more identified numbers associated with the primary number. The simultaneous rings are based on a presence and/or physical location of the mobile communication device. The multiple numbers may have associated distinctive ring functions or tones. When the mobile communication device is proximate to the first network, a first detection signal is generated. A first presence signal indicates whether the condition of the connection permits an ongoing communication on the first network. The communication is handed over to a second network when the connection does not permit continuing on the first network.

  • Patent number: 8103250
Abstract: A system and method for sharing location data amongst wireless communication devices uses a token system to grant permission to share location data. The tokens may be created automatically as the result of user activation of a different function. Location data may be exchanged when two wireless communication devices, authorized to exchange location data, are within a predetermined distance from each other. Location data may also be automatically exchanged upon the occurrence of a scheduled calendar event within a wireless communication device. Location data may be exchanged a single time or can be exchanged on a continuous or periodic basis so long as the token still exists. The token may be destroyed manually by some user activity or may be terminated automatically.

  • Patent number: 8099085
Abstract: Using cell phones or other wireless devices to notify users of those devices of impending arrival at a selected customer location. The current location of the wireless device is determined and compared with the known location of the destination. When the wireless device is within a predetermined distance or at a predetermined estimated arrival time from the selected destination, an alert is sent to the wireless device and, if authorized, an alert also is sent to the destination. In response to the impending arrival, the destination may provide information for the user concerning offerings at that destination.
