  • Patent number: 4797203
Abstract: A reverse hydrocyclone cleaner for removing light contaminants from pulp slurry has a housing defining a hydrocyclone separating chamber. Pulp slurry is fed into the separating chamber adjacent an upper end thereof to form an outer helically and downwardly moving slurry stream relatively free from light contaminants, an inner pulp stream containing a substantial amount of the light contaminants and an air core within the inner stream. An overflow orifice is located adjacent an upper end of the separating chamber, and an underflow orifice is located adjacent a lower end of the separating chamber to remove the outer pulp stream relatively free from light contaminants. A centrally located blocking finger is located in the underflow orifice.

  • Patent number: 4796144
Abstract: A ground fault detector for an AC circuit is responsive to resistive ground fault current but not to capacitive ground fault current. Current in the AC circuit is sensed and a corresponding signal current is produced. The direction of the signal current is reversed in each alternate half AC cycle without reversing the signal current in each intervening half cycle, the unreversed and the reversed signal current is averaged, and the presence of averaged signal current above a predetermined value is sensed to indicate significant resistive ground fault current.

  • Patent number: 4788617
Abstract: Apparatus for transferring an electrically conductive liquid from a first container to a second container in which the liquid is maintained at a substantially different electrical potential from the electrical potential of the liquid in the first container without causing significant change in the electrical potential of the liquid in the first container. The apparatus has a liquid transfer chamber with an electrically insulating inner surface, a sprinkler for sprinkling liquid from the first container into an upper portion of the liquid transfer chamber to cause liquid droplets to fall from the upper portion to a lower portion of the chamber, and a second container connected to the lower portion of the liquid transfer chamber to receive liquid therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4779904
Abstract: A coupling for connecting a vehicle exhaust pipe to an exhaust conduit for removing vehicle exhaust gases has a cylindrical housing with an inlet at the front end and an outlet at the rear end, the rear end being connectible to an exhaust conduit. A bristle assembly is mounted within the housing adjacent the front end. The bristle assembly includes an annular container and a multitude of resilient bristles extending radially inwardly from the retainer towards the longitudinal axis of the housing and terminating at a position spaced from the longitudinal axis to provide a central aperture. The bristles project radially inwardly from the retainer by a distance in the range from about 4:1 to about 8:1 longer than the radial thickness of the retainer to enable the front end of the housing to be pushed over a vehicle exhaust tail pipe to cause the tail pipe to bend the bristles rearwardly into engagement with the tail pipe to produce an effective gas seal between the front end of the coupling and the tail pipe.

  • Patent number: 4778190
Abstract: A ski attachment for pivotal attachment to the axle or transverse rod-like member of a wheeled vehicle which comprises at least one ski having an elongated runner with an upturned front tip, an upstanding pedestal mounting on said elongated runner behind said front tip, said pedestal having an upper distal end with a transverse recess or like means formed therein for pivotally receiving said transverse axle or rod-like member of the vehicle, said pedestal and ski having a total height greater than the radius of the vehicle wheel, and tension biasing means interconnecting the front tip of the ski to the vehicle above the axle for urging the front end of the ski upwardly relative to the vehicle whereby the mounting of obstacles during forward travel of the vehicle is facilitated. In a preferred aspect, the ski attachment of the invention comprises a pair of skis, with means for securing the skis together in spaced side-by-side relationship.

  • Patent number: 4743428
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the agitation of base metal on alloy melts, and for the agitation and alloying of base metal melts with at least one alloying metal. A rotatable device is suspended in a melt of base metal and the device is rotated to draw at least a partial vortex in the melt. The device comprises a hollow cylinder having an open top and a closed bottom. An array of openings in the cylinder side wall is adapted to allow melt of the base metal to pass through. In the agitation of a base metal or alloy melt, the amount of dross formed on the melt is reduced. In alloying, the at least one alloying metal may be added directly to the melt or may be added in particulate form into the vortex in the device, the latter being particularly useful when the melting point of the alloying metal is higher than that of the base metal or alloy.
