  • Patent number: 8293225
Abstract: An implant for repair of a cartilaginous defect in a subject includes a collagen matrix charged with synovial cells. A method preparing an implant for repair of a cartilaginous defect in a subject includes obtaining a fluid containing synovial cells and charging the synovial cells to the matrix. A device for preparing a cell-charged implant includes a first chamber and a second chamber, the first and second chambers being separated by a membrane and a perforated filter. The membrane is adapted to collect cells from a cell-containing fluid introduced into the first chamber and the perforated filter is adapted to permit passage or diffusion of the fluid through the second chamber. • Patent number: 8295540
Abstract: A method of processing uniform mailpieces referred to as a “run” of mailpieces, during which method OCR is performed for recognizing certain information in a zone of interest of an image of each mailpiece, and during which method the following steps are performed: a) initializing a matrix accumulator associated with said run and including unitary accumulation elements that correspond to the pixels of the image; b) consolidating said matrix accumulator by incrementing certain unitary accumulation elements by deriving an indication of the spatial position of a block of pixels in which said certain information has been recognized unambiguously, or by using construction and local graphical correlation of blocks of image pixels to derive an optical flow map indicating local graphical movements; and c) defining, in the OCR processing, said zone of interest on the basis of the unitary accumulation elements of the consolidated matrix accumulator that present extreme accumulation values.

  • Patent number: 8288904
Abstract: Apparatuses for coupling magnetic forces into motive force are disclosed having a spinner arm, a power bed, and a hub. The spinner arm has a helical array of magnets mounted about a shaft. The apparatus also has a rotational timing coupling such as a stationary rack and spinner shaft pinion. The power bed has two arrays of magnets defining a power track. The spinner arm shaft may be mounted in the hub, allowing rotation of the spinner arm about its axis. The hub is further constructed to allow the hub and spinner arm to move translationally within a plane parallel to a plane containing the power bed. High coercive force magnets in the spinner and power bed interact to displace the spinner arm and rotate it about its axis. Multiple spinner arms and power beds may be arranged to move a load linearly or drive a load about an axis.

  • Patent number: 8281672
Abstract: An aseptic sampling system includes substantially sealed sampling lines connecting one or more sample container to a vessel containing the fluid to be sampled. A flow control system includes valves and/or clamps placed strategically along the sampling lines and filtered vent lines are provided at strategic locations relative to a reversible fluid pump in communication with the sampling lines. The clamps are selectively actuated, the vent lines are selectively opened or closed, and the pump is operated in a forward or reverse direction to permit a volume of sample fluid to be drawn from the vessel and into a sample container and to permit fluid to be purged from the sampling lines either into the sample container or back into the vessel. Thus, sampling and purging can be accomplished without opening the system to potentially contaminating agents and without wasting or having to properly dispose the fluid.
