  • Patent number: 8033189
Abstract: In a skin of a robot, it is configured to have a plurality of tactile sensors discretely installed on a base, a first member disposed on the tactile sensors, the first member being continuously formed, at its surface facing the tactile sensors, with projections which are tapered toward the respective tactile sensors as viewed in cross-section to be capable of pressing each of the tactile sensors, and a second member that is disposed on the first member and is made of a material being lower in rigidity than a material of the first member. With this, the skin is equipped with the second member as a soft skin surface and it becomes possible to reliably detect a point of action or distribution of a load applied through the skin surface, thereby enabling to reliably estimate a point in contact with an external object.

  • Patent number: 8031105
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose systems and methods for providing an enhanced data link using overlaid modulation. Through embodiments of the present invention, existing ATC (or other) modulated signals using existing standard frequencies may be utilized to transmit (e.g., from an aircraft transponder) additional information in a manner that does not render the transmitted signal unrecognizable by legacy ATC equipment. Legacy equipment will be able to demodulate and decode information that was encoded in the transmitted signal in accordance with preexisting standard modulation formats, and updated equipment can also extract the additional information that was overlaid on transmitted signals.

  • Patent number: 8032860
Abstract: An extensible, data-driven, language independent source code editor is presented, with an embedded, extensible multi-language compiler framework. Such an editor can be tightly integrated with a compiler framework that provides detailed information about the language currently being edited by the user. This information can be provided in a language-neutral way effectively decoupling the editor from the underlying set of languages being edited. In addition, a language-independent editor can expose a set of APIs that makes it easy to customize behavior for specific languages that have characteristics not shared by most languages. This set of APIs can also enable the development of customized views, such as for developing visual editors that represent and allow the user to manipulate aspects of the source code pictorially. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention.

  • Patent number: 8027317
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, system, network element and computer program product for transmitting a data stream in a point-to-multipoint mode from a source entity to a plurality of users in a predetermined area of a cellular network, said predetermined area comprising a plurality of sub-areas. A predetermined, recurring time period is allocated to transmission of localized data specified for users of individual ones of said plurality of sub-areas, and a transmission capacity of the data stream is divided using said predetermined, recurring time period among adjacent sub-areas. Localized data is then transmitted during the predetermined, recurring time period using a divided transmission capacity allocated to the respective sub-area. Thereby, combination of global and local broadcast or multicast content is enabled in a broadcast system by avoiding overlapping of transmissions with different content at cell edges.

  • Patent number: 8026955
Abstract: In an exposure controller of a camera mounted on a robot for taking an image utilizing incident light from external world in which an object such as a human being is present, a brightness histogram of the image is generated and exposure parameters are set based on the generated histogram. Then, it is determined whether the set exposure parameters are within a predetermined range and when they are out of the range and if a high-brightness imaging region is present in the image due to high-brightness incident light, it is again determined whether it is necessary to remove the high-brightness imaging region. When it is determined to be necessary, the high-brightness imaging region is extracted and is removed from the image, thereby enabling the camera to image the object with suitable brightness even when a bright light source such as the sun is within the camera angle of view.
